Barbour County Families
Birth Records found in an
Alford Family Bible
Submitted by John McCollam
In an old (1814) German Bible recently purchased at an auction in Barbour
County in the Moatsville area, I found listings for Alford Family births in the 1830's and 1840's. I
I was wondering if there were any Alford Family descendents who might be interested in the
names and dates.
The names and dates are:
Thomas Allford was born the 18 day of Aprile(sic) in the year of our Lord
1838.
Margeret Ann Allford was born the 23 day of March in the year of our Lord
1840.
James Henry Allford was borne the 11 day of March in the year of our Lord
1842.
John Calvin Allford was born the 5 day of May in the year of our Lord 1845.
There is a program for the Shiloh Church of the Brethren, Moatsville, WV for
April 10, 1988 on the back of which is written:
The Old German Book belonged to our Grandmother Betsey Alford Wife of James
Alford.
Note: In the 1860 Census of Barbour County the Alfords of the Bible records appear in the
following household.
