Barbour County Cities, Towns and Settlements
The Thompson Settlement
Original Land Grants
This information was compiled by David Houchin in 1992. David is now the genealogy librarian at the Clarksburg public library.
Notes by David Kuhl:
It is my understanding that William Woodford (1769-1833) purchased land from William Thompson on Fox Grape Creek about 1811.
I think James Robinson was in the area by 1800 but I don't know where he owned property.
Mary's Chapel Methodist Church and cemetery was built on land in this area. I believe James Robinson and his wife Elizabeth Davis
are buried at Mary's Chapel which was named for Mary Robinson Woodford, daughter of James and Elizabeth and wife of Jacob Woodford.
Jacob was the second son of William Woodford.
