Joseph (Joel) MARTIN
His place and date of birth not known. His parents are not known, and even his name is in question found in some places Joseph and others Joel. He may be from Fauqier or Culpeper County as the HITT family is known to have been in both. His marriage to Mary Ann Hitt is thought to have taken place in Fauqiuer Co. Joseph died, according to tradition, at Yorktown, 1781. He did not see his son Stephen Martin.

Mary Ann HITT Born 1755 in Prince William now Fauquier County VA. She is believed to be the daughter of John Hitt (1715-1790) and Sarah Pace Hitt. She married Joseph (Joel) Martin perhaps in Fauquier Co. After his death she married William Strange of Fauquier County and they came to Harrison County with the early settlers. William died there in 1795. She married thirdly to Joseph Hall (1745-1825) and remained in Harrison County until her death in 1810.
