Belington, WVa. - Mr. Edward G. "Pete" Poling age 80 years, a resident of Brown Avenue, departed this 11:21 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001 in the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Belington, a son of the late James D. and Lillie Mae McCauley Poling.
In September 1942, he was united in marriage to the former Miss Irene Tallman who preceded him in death Oct. 24, 1997. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, James Poling; two brothers, Denzil H. Poling and Ronald James "Jack" Poling; one infant brother, Forest Poling; and one sister, Beatrice Farley.
Surviving are one son, Edward James Poling and his wife Emma, of Schertz, Texas; one granddaughter, Terri Lynn Melle; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and James Melle, one sister, Bernice Streets of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Belington; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Poling attended the schools of Barbour County, had served in the Civiliam Conservation Corps. and was a Veteran of the U.S. Armyserving during World War II. He had spent many years living in Wellsville. He was employed by Homer Laughlin China Co. and then in Barberton, Ohio, where he was employed by the Hopkins and Kipp Auto Parts Distributor. He was a member of the Barberton V.F.W. adn was presently attending the Grace Chapel United Methodist Church near Belington.
Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington and Saturday, Jan. 6, until 2 p.m. the funeral hour when the final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Steve White officiating. Interment will follow in Fraternal Cemetery in Belington where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 44 of Philippi.
