High School Students Are Given Awards

Sixty-five seniors of Philippi high school received diplomas last night at
the commencement program held in the Grand theater.
Milford Forest TOWNSEN, son the Mr. and Mrs. W. F. TOWNSEN, of Hall, gave
the valedictory address, and Miss Josephene SMITH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
C. B. SMITH of Philippi, was salutatorian. TOWNSEN was awarded a scholarship
to West Virginia Wesleyan college and Miss SMITH was selected as the one to
receive the "citizenship" award, a medal donated by West Virginia Sons of
the American Revolution.
Scholarship letters were given to each honor roll student from the four
classes in high school. They were as follows: Arby A. CROSS, Olive DENNISON,
Lena ENGLAND, Ruth JACKSON, Galen JOHNSON, Carl KILE, Wilma MCCOY, Sylvia
Ethel MCVICKER, Woodrow MCVICKER, Junior MARSH, Pauline MITCHELL, Rosa Lee
MARRA, Harry NESTOR, Jr., Ruth Marie RIDENOUR, Dorothy Lee RITTER, Reva
ROBNSON, Josephene SMITH, Lawrence Harold SMITH, B.E. SNYDER , Jr., Robert
SUMMERS, Doris STALNAKER, Albert Vance STEMMPLE. Geraldine STURM, Milford
Forest TOWNSEN and Elmer ZINN.
