Obituary: Lou Gainer Vannoy
Lou Ellen Dorcus Gainer VANNOY was born March 18 1858, and died
July 8, 1937, age 79 years, three months and 20 days. She married Bud HARSH now
deceased and to this union one child was born, Berlin B. HARSH, of Brunswick, Md.
Later she married Enoch PHILLIPS, deceased, and to this union three children were
born, Mack PHILLIPS, of Elkins; Mrs. W.A. HUFFMAN of Cumberland, Md.; and Mrs.
Hickman FERGUSON, of Nestorville. Her third husband was B. F. VANNOY, who survives,
and to this union was born four children, Mrs. Alva LANTZ, of Philippi, Route 3:
Arley VANNOY, of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Roy SHAW, of this city, Wheeler GAINER [sic] ,
of Elkins, and one son deceased. She is also survived by four stepsons and one
step daughter, Noah Jay VANNOY, of Parsons, and Mrs. B. HOLSBERRY, of Philippi,
twenty-two grandchildren; one brother, J.W. GAINER, of Philippi, two sisters, Mrs.
A.L. HOLSBERRY, of Philippi, and Mrs. G. SMITH, of Elkins, and a host of friends.
She was a kind and loving mother loved by all, a devoted Christian and a member of
the M.P. Church of White Oak. She had been blind some fifteen years, but bore her
affliction patiently. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 at the Little
Bethel church, Rev. LEGGITT, of Nestorville, officiating, C.O. PHILLIPS, funeral
director in charge.
