Belington Flier Missing in Crash

[1944] Philippi, Aug. 18 -- Mr. And Mrs. Howard WILSON, of Belington, have been notified by the navy department that their son, Lt. (jg) Sherwood Lee WILSON, 25, has been missing since August 8, when his plane crashed somewhere in the Pacific area. Lt. WILSON graduated from Belington high school and Alderson-Broaddus college and took private pilot training at the Elkins airport before entering the service in February, 1942. He took his cadet training at Anacostia, D.C., and then went to Corpus Christi, Tex., where he was commissioned an ensign in April 1943. He was promoted to his present rating and later was assigned as a signal flight officer and instructor at Miami, Fla., for six months before going into combat service. Lt. WILSON has one brother, Carpenter's Mate First Class Woodrow WILSON, who also is with the navy in the Pacific.
