Aged Barbour Farmer Dead
Sylvanus W. Zinn, 80, Succumbs At Daughter's Home Yesterday
[Thursday, 20 July 1939]
Sylvanus W. ZINN, 80 years old, a retired Barbour county farmer and well known in
this county, died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Bertha HARDEN, of
Terra Alta, [another article adds "where he had been making his home for some
time"] of diseases incident to his advanced age. He was born April 21, 1859, the
son of Alpheus ZINN and Mrs. Lucinda GAWTHROP ZINN. The body will lie in state at
the Mt. Olive Baptist church about two miles west of Philippi on the Brushy Fork
road to Clarksburg, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, after which funeral services
will be conducted at the church. Burial will be made in the church cemetery. He
leaves the following children: Aubrey L. ZINN of Philadelphia; Mrs. Rosetta
CAMPBELL of Denver , Col.; Mrs. Gladys SCOTT of Silver Spring [sic] Md.; Harley E.
ZINN of Jane Lew; Curtis C. ZINN of Amissville, Va.; L. Glenn ZINN of Philippi;
Carl ZINN of Philippi; and Mrs. Bertha HARDIN of Terra Alta. Another article about

funeral of S.W. ZINN Saturday were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Robert DUSTMAN of
Morgantown; Mr. and Mrs. A.D. TALBOTT and Mr. and Mrs. A.A. TALBOTT of Elkins;
Mrs. Annie BERRY, Misses Mary Nell and Elizabeth BERRY, and Robert BERRY of
Glenville; Curtis ZINN and two children Laurena and Dorothy, of Amissville, Va.;
Mr. and Mrs. Ira HARDEN and daughter, Betty, of Terra Alta; Mr. and Mrs. Hubert
ZINN, of Troy; Mr. RYMER of Glenville; Harley E. ZINN and two daughters Kathleen
and Evalene, of Jane Lew.
