Kara McWilliamsI'm looking for information on my gg-grandfather Michael Kinser and his second Martha J. Proctor. The two were married in Clay County on October 14, 1896. Michael was born in Russell County Va., and moved to Mason County. Here is most of what I know about him.

Michael Kinser was born on April 16, 1837, in Virginia and died November 1916, in St. Cloud, Osceola County, Florida. He served in the KY 1st INF Company C, USA. I've received his pension file from the NARA. The surname is spelled Kenser/Kenzer. He fought and was wounded in the Battle of Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing). He is found in the 1870 Mason County, WVa Census. I have other information to share if you will contact me.

Robin CoffmanI am looking for any information on the Johnsons and Browns. My g-grandfather was James Henry Johnson and I believe his wife was Rebecca Brown. They had several children including John, Richard, Jesse, Russell, Okey, Theodore, Flora and more. Any information would be appreciated.

Nikki WellsMy mother was Mildred Burgess (nicknamed Midge). She has two sisters - Buela and Mary. My grandmother was known by the nickname of Pell Burgess and she lived in Ivydale, Clay County, West Virginia. Her real name was Rosa Ellen Burgess/McNamer/Drake. I knew her as Ellen. I believe her father was named Thomas Burgess and was married to a woman named Mariah. Any exchange of information would be greatly appreciated.

Judy SeymoreI am seeking information on the Morton, Gill and Estep families. Miles T. Morton was born about 1849 and married Rebecca J. Estep who was born about 1855. They were married in Clay County on or about March 31, 1870. Their daughter, Jennettie Morton, was born on September, 1878, in Clay County. She married Robert Edward Lee Gill around or before October 8, 1875, in Giles County, Virginia. Robert's father was Taylor Gill. Any information of this family would be most appreciated.

Beatrice MillerI am seeking info on my father, William Caleb Jackson, born in Braxton County about 1881 and my mother Sally Anne Duffield born June 1, 1914. I am also trying to obtain a listing for persons buried at the Duffield Cemetery near Villa Nova. (The John M. Duffield Cem.). Is there such a list available and where should I look? Does anyone know who is in charge of the cemetery now? It used to be Diane Nottingham (she worked at the bank in Gassaway). Any information anyone can get for me will be deeply appreciated. My father was married the first time to a Rebecca Boggs and they had two children, the first born in 1914 and the other in 1925. I am not sure if they were married in Clay , Braxton or perhaps Nicholas County. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Don PomeroyI am looking for information on a Francis M. Jones that lived in Clay County, Va. (now WVa.). His wife's name was Martha Ann Moore. They were married April 10, 1861, in Clay County. Their daughter, Emily Elizabeth Jones, married Thomas R. Smith. I really need to know the where abouts of Francis M. And Martha Ann Jones. Their daughter and her husband are buried at Elliott's Cemetery in Lizemore, Clay County, W.Va. Thank you for your help.

Bill ChapmanI am looking for any information on Ada Hall, born in 1886 and died in 1969. She married Luther Chapman in 1907. They lived in Clay County and raised two sons, Roscoe and David Carl. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ron ElliottI am researching the family line of Samuel Lyons, born February, 1803. He married Elzina or Elzara O'brion, supposedly a Mohawk Indian on January 15, 1859. Their children were Martha, Erma, Susanna, Delbert, James, Rebecca, Sarah, Caroline, Jonathan and William Perry Lyons who was my great grandfather. William was born March 20, 1861, and died on March 18, 1936, at Adonijah (Donijer) Creek, Clay County, W.Va. William was married first to Sarah J. Sands. They had a son named Bill. His second wife was Martha Holcomb, my great grandmother. She was the daugher of Zachary Holcomb and Eunice (Neil) Holcomb.

The children of William and Martha were Adda, Bell (Lyons) Reed, Ida Gertrude (Lyons) Reed, Samuel, Rosette, Clara, Margret, Hester Anna, Sarah(Lyons) Shamblin, and my paternal grandmother, Maggie Jane (Lyons) Elliott. Maggie was born August 2, 1901, and died on November 25, 1982. She married Herbert R. Elliott.

I am also searching for information on the descendants of my ggg-grandfather Thomas Elliott, Sr. born April 30, 1797, in Montgomery Co., Va, and his wife Mary Moore. According to family lore he settled around either Gauley Bridge or Ansted, Va. (now W.Va.). John Marco Elliott, (my gg-grandfather) was born September 27, 1837, in Clay County and died on February 28, 1896 at Adonijah (Donijer) Creek near Lizemores, Clay County, W.Va. He married Sarah Francis Bird on January 6, 1859. She was the daughter of William and Virginia Jones Bird. I have a great deal more information on the Elliott family that I am willing to share but I am also interested in acquiring much more if I can.

I'm also searching for any information on the Bird, Morton, Sizemore, and Ward families from the Adonijah (Doniger) Fork area of Clay County, W.Va. Also, any facts on the Elliott Splint Coal Company which operated in the Leatherwood, Pisgah area of Clay County sometime in the early 1900's. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

As stated above, I am searching for information on my great grandmother Martha Holcomb. She was born about 1849 and married my great grandfather William Perry Lyons on January 5, 1890. Her parents were Zachary Holcomb and Eunice Neal. Eunice's parents were Jeremiah Neal, born 1816 - died January 18, 1891, and Margaret "Polly" Brown, born 1807 and died after 1850. Any information on the Neal family will ge greatly appreciated.

John KingI am looking for any information on my father's family in Clay County. His name is Thomas Bradley King and he is a 1964 graduate of Clay County High School. My three uncles, M. Peter, John, Shelby, and Aunt Ruth (now Tanner) also graduated from Clay High. My grandfather's name was Homer Woodley King and my grandmother's name was Ina Elizabeth (nee: Rodgers). They lived in Procious where Homer was a coal miner. Homer's father and mother's names were Sarah A. (nee: Eagles) and William H. King. Ina's father and mother were Kesiah Ziporah (nee: Holcomb) and John Emerson Rodgers. Homer is buried in the King Cemetery in Maysel, near Clay. Ina is buried in the Rodgers Cemetery at Indore where she lived. There is also a Rodgers Cemetery in Lizemore. Any information about my family would be greatly appreciated. I'll also supply as much information as I can if you are interested. Thanks.

Karen GilglenI am researching some family history and have found some surnames listed in the Clay County 1870 Census. Does anyone have any info or connections to the Short, Dunlap, or McLaughlin families? I am interested in an Eleanor (Eleanore or Eleanora) Short who married a James Scott. They lived in Braxton County. They had a son (and most likely other children) named William A. Scott who was born in 1845. I am also interested in the Dunlaps. My grandmother was Martha Dunlap, daughter of William and Zilphia(?) Fulks Dunlap. She married a Robert Scott, son of the William A. Scott mentioned above. As for the McLaughlins, I am interested in knowing who the mother of Jack McLaughlin was. He lived in Gassaway and died most likely in the 1970's. My dad alway said they were related, but I can't figure out how. Any information you can supply will be greatly appreciated.

Barbara BoyceI am searching for information on Katherine Marie Esque who was born on October 27, 1906. Her parents were Frank Esque and Josephine Shivetaker. Family tradition has it that the Shivetakers lived in Clay and Putnam Counties from 1890 to 1920. Katherine Esque's children were: John, Tom, Luther, Leota, Clyde, Fanny, Alma and Lilly. G. ShortMy great grandfather was George Washington Bullard. He married Nannie Payne. They had my grandfather Harley (Buck) Bullard, Arley (Dick), Rosa, Della, Golda, Burl, Woodrow and Ray. They were from Clay County. My great great grandfather was George Bullard, an Irishman who married Dora Coe a Cherokee Indian. They came from Surrey County, North Carolina. George the Irishman also married Martha Short. Their children were Pearl, Jess, Molly, and Hattie. Martha was also my great aunt on my other side of the family. Martha was my grandfather Aaron Short's sister. I would appreciate hearing from anyone having information on this line of my family.

I am also looking for any information on the Bullard, Hunt, Short, Taylor, or Drennen families.

Kris WolbachI am researching the Wolbach surname in the 1700's and early 1800's. According to the town history section of the Clay County GenWeb page, the town of Wallback was named after an early settler who was a large landowner. Do any Clay County researchers have any information at all on this landowner? First name dates, marriage records? Thank you

Charlie MynhierI am looking for information on my mother Cassie G. Mundy who was born on July 16, 1907, in Clay County. She married Everett Mynhier of South Charleston, W.Va., on July 16, 1924. Everett was born of August 29, 1903. My mother's parents were Joseph M. Mundy who was born June 12, 1880, in Jackson County and Virdie E. Siders who was born on July 22, 1888, also in Jackson County. Any information that can be provided on this family will be greatly appreciated.

Jerry EdensI am seeking information on the James Justice family. James Justice and Rebecca Jane Butler had a daughter Rosie Emalie Justice who was born on July 30, 1881. On November 18, 1901, she married Silas Edward Fitzwater who was born on December 08, 1879, in Nicholas County West Virginia. He died on March 3, 1959, in Clay County. Rosie died on July 3, 1979, also in Clay County.

I have traced Rebecca Jane Butler back to Joseph Butler from County Carlow, Ireland, but have had no luck learning anything about James Justice. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Jerry EdensI am seeking information of the Harris family. Joseph Harris was born in Nicholas County, Va. (now WVa) and he married a Matheny who was born in Clay County, Va. (now WVa). Their daughter Armita C. Harris was born on December 22, 1859, in Clay County, W.Va., and died on March 21, 1933, in Newport News, Va. She married Ervin Thomas Butler who was born on March 2, 1860, in Henry District of Clay County. Ervin died on June 3, 1946, in Clay County. They were married on January 12, 1886. Arminta's parent information came from her death record but I cannot find these people in Clay or Nicholas Counties. They left no paper trail. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Barb ThompsonMy great grandfather's name was Enoch Starcher. His dad's name was Umphury and his mom's name was Lavina. I would like to have any information that anyone has on them. I know Lavina is buried at Walker's Cemetary and she was born in 1850 and died in 1937. I would like to know her maiden name and where she was born. I know they had at least 7 children. Their names were: Enoch, Eli, Euella, Daniel, Sara, Rosie, and Joe. This isn't the order they were born in. I think they were raised at Nebo, Wallback, and Big Otter. My grandfather Enoch married Miriam Hughes. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Michelle TedderI am trying to find any and all information about my maternal grandmother's mother. Her name was Nancy Ruth Payton (or Peyton or even Patton). She married Henry Moore Hamrick on April 6, 1875. I think she was born in 1860. Her parents were Julinah (don't know maiden name) Peyton and John C. Peyton. They appeared on the 1860 Clay County Census. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cindy PettyI am seeking the death record and will of Matilda Barber who resided in Clay County W.Va., Otter District, waters of Otter Creek, Wilson Fork. I have the land tax record for 1900, and it has the Matilda Barber estate and shows all taxes paid. Matilda was also in the 1900 census of Clay County, Otter District. I also have deeds dated January 2, 1901, dividing the 100 acres that were left to John H. Barber (grandson) and Ruth A. Boggs (daughter) by Matilda Barber deceased. I believe she died sometime between June and December 1900. Where did Matilda die and where was her death recorded? Did she make a will? I also put a query in Braxton County for her husband John who died sometime between 1850 and 1857. I know where Matilda (Granny) Barber is buried . My Slack and Boggs ancestors are buried there too. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Maynard MayWould like to contact someone who is working on the Isaac Neil and Dora Holcomb Neil family. I have pictures of all of Dora Holcomb's brother and sisters but not one of her. Does anyone have a picture of their parents James Andrew Holcomb, Sr. and Mary Adeline Sizemore?

Roger JeffreyDoes anyone have information on Anne Louise Holcomb who was reported to have married a Roland Jasper Hughes in Nicholas County, March 30, 1879, and gave her address as Clay County. Also it gave her father's name as John Holcomb but no mother's name. Any data will be greatly appreciated.

Sandy GraleyI am looking for parents of William Johnson born in Kentucky in the late 1830's to early l840's. His family obviously moved to Clay County, West Virginia at some time, because there are documents stating he was from Clay County. He married Emeline Johnson, possibly from Cabell County. He moved back to Clay County, W.Va. where he and Emeline had their daughter, Emily, born in 1867. His father's name could possibly be B.S. Johnson. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Bill BarnetteHelp! I'm missing two families - The families of Annis Gray and Elmira Davis. Their children were Agnes P'Simer of Taylor Fork, Sherman, Okey (WW1 vet from Harrison), Sam, and a Willie and/or Lillie who may have died when they were about 13 - 14. I have a record of Early Gray and Agnes P'Simer's family but can't connect them with the rest of the Gray surnames from The Clay and other county history books. Lucille Gray (d/o Early) was born in 1927and married Clarence Casto who was born in 1925. He was the son of Ova Casto and Pearl Grose from in or around Widen. Ova's mother was Ida Jane Tolley from Jackson County and maybe the older Castos were also. Clarence's siblings were Bud, Jessie who married Tootsie Talbert, Stella, Gladys, Virgil, Billy Richard, Dennis, Deanna, Larry and Helen Mae Casto. Any help with dates, places, full names etc. would be very much appreciated.

Gail BradyI am searching for information on my ggreat grandparents Fielding Rose and Louise Goff. I have no dates on them but I do know that they had a daughter by the name of Lula Jane Rose - born 2-8-1897 and died 11-9-1952. She was married on 4-28-1917. She was married to my grandfather Fitzhugh Lee Triplett, a well know old time fiddler in Clay County, W.Va.

I know of at least one son, Charlie married to Hattie. They lived in Harrison, Clay County, until he died. Hattie, as far as I know, is in a nursing home in Flatwoods, Braxton County, W.Va. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
