- Looking for information about DUNBARs who moved from
VA/WV to Oregon via Applegate Trail around 1852. Specifically information
on Rice DUNBAR, and George Washington DUNBAR (son John and Daughter?),
and families. I have located several DUNBARs in the Census of 1810, as
well as others. Some of the Counties mentioned have included Kanawha
(Jonathan DUNBAR), Monroe (Mathew DUNBAR, died July 5, 1857), and Nicholas
Co., where Johnathan was in the VA Militia, and received a pension. He
was 72 in 1833.
In the Greenbrier Co. West Virginia Will Book #1(up to 1833) there are
entries for:

for all descendents of Sebastian SHAWVER 1733-1816. Had children: Jacob,
Christopher, George, John, Elizabeth (mar Charles ROWEN), Barbara (mar
ROWEN or BOWEN), Sally / Sarah (mar Henry SMITH) and dau who mar LOGSDON.
George settled in the Fayette / Greenbrier area and had many descendents
who remained in the area. Many of the descendents stayed in West Virginia
while others moved on to OH, IN, IL, MO, AR, KS, OK and TX.

in Holland, married Rebecca PERKINS (b. 16 Nov 1779). Leonard died 4
July 1835 in Ross Co., OH and he is buried in Ackley Cemetery in Liberty
TWP, Ross Co., OH.
Leonard and Rebecca had the following children: Elizabeth b. 28 July 1798
in PA and married William WILKINSON; John b. 2 Feb 1800 in Greenbrier Co.,
VA, married Eleanor GRAVES 1821 in Jackson Co., OH and died 18 Aug 1879
in Quitman, MO; Barbara b. 16 Sept 1801 married Abraham MOATS on 18 May
1820 in Jackson Co., OH; Henry by 23 Sept 1803 and died 23 Sept 1848;
George born 19 March 1804; Rebecca b. 29 May 1808 in Greenebrier Co., VA,
married 30 March 1825 in Jackson Co. OH to Gasper BOGARD. She died 31
Jan 1899 in Montezuma, Poweshiek, IA (these are my 3rd. great grandparents);
Catherine b. 23 July 1810; Mary b. 21 Aug 1813 married a MILLER; Lester
b. 23 Nov 1815 and married a COAN; Delitha b. 3 March 1817 and married
Phillip ARGANBRIGHT; Leonard b. 9 Nov 1819 and d. 6 Sept 1836. He is
buried in Liberty TWP, Ross Co., OH. This information is from Ross Co.,

- Seeking information on Christopher (Christian) SMITH. Believed to have
been born in Sharpsburg, Washington Co., MD abt 1740 of German descent.
Am also seeking the birthdate of Harmon SMITH, son of Jacob SMITH &
Jane KINCAID. His grave marker states he was 80 years old at his death
on Aug. 25, 1902 (Fayette Co.). If that is so he would have been born about
1822. I have other information stating his birthdate as November 3, 1829.
Since Jacob lived in Raleigh Co. assume he was born there. Don't know which
county that Raleigh was formed from he may have been born in. Thank you.

in Greenbrier Co., WV., dated in 1797. James' daughter, Jane, married
Frederick WYMORE/WIMORE and moved to Kentucky in the 1780s. Who were James
MORROW's other children? Who did they marry? Did James MORROW have more
than one wife?

- I am looking for the parents, siblings and children of Samuel H.
HIGGINBOTHAM and Rebecca LOWRY (LOWERY) who married on Oct. 6, 1825 in
Monroe Co., (W)VA. In 1850 they were living in Raleigh Co. with 11
(possibly 13) children.
I am not sure if they were living in the same place or the boundaries
changed. They had several more children in the 1860 census, one of which
was my 3rd great grandfather Lee F. I have been told that Samuel H. was a
son of Joseph or Moses HIGGINBOTHAM. A Joseph HIGGINBOTHAM was married in
Greenbrier Co. to Mary REED on Dec. 14, 1784. (from the Journal of the
Kanawha Valley Genealogy Society. Vol. 9 No. 5 Page 36 ). Any information

- I am looking for information on my great-grandfather, Edward Clinton
COOK. He was born in Kanowha County on Aug. 16, 1841. Not sure who his
parents were, possibly John COOK and Mary? He married Miriam RHODES and
was later divorced and then married Sarah? He lived in Kanawha from 1865
to 1877,then in Nicholas Co. at Richmond from 1877 to 1908, then in Greenbrier
Co. 1909 to 1911 also lived in Webster Co. I am also interested in contacting
any of his great-grandchildren. Edward Clinton children were as follows,
as far as I know. (1) John Cook married Rena?; (2) Ulysses S.; (3) Victoria;
(4) Eurate Lucrecia; (5) Elmer; (6) Mary Etta married George COLLINS; (7)
Georgia married HOLSTINE; (8) Abraham Lincoln married Sarah Catherine KYER.

McCLINTIC who was born 30 June 1803 and died 13 January 1854. They
were married in Greenbrier by Jno. SPOTTS. Looking for Polly's father.
Have a lot of information on the McCLINTIC'S if anyone is interested.

Will leave the desert (phoenix) and attempt to find land of my 3rd and
4th great-grandfathers. Help! I know they had land grants in Greenbrier
county, "On the south side of Indian Creek on the Waggon road that
leads from Wallace ESTILLs to William HUTCHISONs " including some
small branches of Briary run a Branch of Hans Creek (approximately 109
acres)" Any clues would be appreciated. I have state maps but am only
familiar with Boone County West Virginia, have never been Greenbrier County.

- Looking for information on Fleming BUTLER (1790-1862). Enlisted from
Greenbrier County, (W)VA in the War of 1812 and served in Taylor's and
McClung's Co's (VA Militia). Married by Josiah OSBORNE to Elizabeth EAGLE
(1797-1881) on 25 Aug 1816. He was listed in the 1815 census as 1 tithable
(no horse or cows or blacks). On 26 June 1818 Fleming and William LONG
were in the Greenbrier County court but the reason was not stated. Fleming
and Elizabeth went on to Gallia County, Ohio before 1819 and were some
of the early settlers there. Elizabeth is the daughter of George EAGLE
Sr. and Maria Elisabeth HENGER / HENGERER / HANGER who also resided in
Greenbrier County and removed to Gallia County, Ohio also. The two families
seemed to have moved together coming from Augusta County, Virginia to
Greenbrier to Gallia Counties.

Elizabeth Susannah DICKSON (b. Ireland 24 Dec 1746) d. 18 Oct 1812 in Greenbrier
County. Immigrated after 1773 as son Josias was born in Ireland that year.
Susannah had brothers: Richard b. 1 Jul 1734 (m. Isabella HUMPHRIES), Robert
b. ca 1735, John b. 5 Jul 1737 d.30 Aug 1809, and might have had additional
brother, Joseph b. 2 May 1749. All the families located in Greenbrier Co.,
area. Wish more information on all persons mentioned, especially location
of family in Ireland.

WALLACE and his wife Rachel HUMPHREYS. William was born 7 April, 1807 and
Rachel was born 5 April, 1811 in Greenbrier County (Virginia) West Virginia.
They were married on 15 December, 1831 in Greenbrier County. Would like
to know the parents of each of these people if possible. They later moved
to Gallis County Ohio then on to Wapello County Iowa, near Ottumwa, where
they died and were buried in the McIntire Cem.

BUTT. Believe Archibald BUTT was the son of Archibald BUTT, son of Richard
BUTT. All were in Berkeley County from the 1780s to circa 1815. Thomas
Didimus' mother is supposed to have been Sarah NORRIS but might be Drusilla
NORRIS who was the wife of Archibald the younger. Specifically looking
for where Archibald Jr went when he left the county, abt or before 1813?
Thomas Didimus was in Greenbrier Co by 1819 when he married Sarah WILLIAMS,

Melissa White of Fayette County before 1916. I'm just beginning research
into my family tree, and it's kind of difficult down here in Florida!

- I'm trying to make the connection between George Whaley
of Greenbrier Cty, Virginia and a bunch of Whaleys in Jackson and Adams
counties in Ohio. George served as private in co. of Capt. Matthew Arbuckle
of the Twelfth Regiment of Virginia, fought Indians at Point Pleasant (Ft.
Randall) in 1778, bought land in Adams County, OH in 1804, retired and
died in 1823 in Jackson County, OH. I have nothing from the other side
of the mountains on him. He signed up at Lewisburg in 1776, served under
General Lewis in 1774 before the war. Any marriages, land stuff... I have
no birthdate on him, though a county history from OH said he was a native
of Greenbrier County. Thanks. Mike Williams.

Looking for information on the parents and siblings of William Brown
b. 1824 in Va. or WVa. He married Evaline Airy 14 Mar 1850, in Greenbrier
Co., and was listed there on the 1850 census. William & Evaline had 9
children, Harriett, Edna, John A., Charles William, Rebecca, Jacob,
Frederick, Elvira, and Sibbie. About 1859, the family moved to Illinois,
and then by 1868, had moved to Lawrence Co.,
Missouri. It is believed that William had a brother, John Brown, who was
possibly married to Caroline UNKNOWN.

on Margaret Miller. She is thought to have been born in 1795 in Greenbrier
(now WV) Co., VA. She had migrated to Christian Co., KY by the time of
her marriage on Dec. 3, 1807 to Alexander Shanklin. Her aunt, Sophia Thompson,
gave permission for her to marry. Any information on her and her parents
would be appreciated.

Co. David Frantz moved his family from VA to Greenbrier Co. in the 1850s.
He purchased the home called Grandview and lived there until sometime in
the 1870s. He had many children - of which, my great-great grandfather,
Abraham Michael Frantz, was one. They were Brethern. I have tons of info
on this family and am more than happy to share.

- Am researching the Kincaid family of Fayette / Greenbrier,
(W)VA. William B. Kincaid married Mildred Virginia Morton in 1857 in Nicholas,
VA. William's parents were William Kincaid and Virginia Jane Vance Kincaid.
William's parents were Samuel Kincaid and Mary Tincher. Virginia's parents
were John Jr. and Elizabeth Gillaspie. Samuel and John Jr. were brothers
and their parents were John Kincaid and Ann Graham. Any one know of these
families. Have alot of missing data. They were in the Greenbrier / Fayette
area for a long time.
