Alfred Slusher was the son of John George Slusher and Mary Ann Brookhoffer .

Alfred born 17 Apr 1807 VA (prob Shenandoah/Page Co. - poss in/near Luray, VA) - occ: farmer & carpenter - died 10 Sep 1875 "College Hill", in/near Paxton, Ford Co., IL, from the results of injuries received when a train hit his horse and buggy on 7 Sep 1875 at the Ottawa Street RR crossing in Paxton, IL - buried ?

Alfred lived in Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA from sometime before Jul 1838 until at least Apr 1856. Sometime between 1856 & 1860, Alfred, his wife and his children (with the exception of his eldest son, George William Slusher ) moved to Vermilion Co., IL. Sometime between his 1st wife's death in 1862 and 1870, he married a 2nd time and had returned to Hardy County. He and his 2nd wife moved back to Illinois where he died in 1875. Alfred Slusher m(1) 27 Sep 1837 (most likely in Pendleton or Hardy Co., VA/WVA) to Nancy Ann Skidmore , daughter of Andrew Skidmore & Elizabeth Taylor Stonestreet. Alfred m(2) btwn 1862 & 1870 in ? to Mary Jane Gilan , daughter of ? & ? Mary Jane b 24 Jan 1821 in ______, VA - d after Jan 1878 in ? (probably living in/near Ford Co., IL, in 1878). Children of Alfred Slusher & Nancy Ann Skidmore :

I. George William Slusher b 2 Jul 1838 Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA - occ: carpenter - d 15 Nov 1908 (prob in/near Clinton or Fayette Co., OH) - bu Sect 5, Lot 3, I.O O.F. Cemetery, Blanchester, Clinton Co, OH. George, his wife and newborn son, Enoch Webster Slusher, were living with her parents in Pendleton Co., VA/WVA in 1860.

George was 1st "drafted against his will" into service with the Confederate cause. He deserted after 6 months and joined the Union Army in Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA. He was an independent scout under Col. Durfey. In 1862 he was captured near Petersburg, VA, while inside rebel lines. He was taken to Stanton, VA, and imprisoned in the third story of the court house there, awaiting court martial as a deserter and a spy. He escaped with two weeks, by climbing down a drainpipe. About nine months later, he went to Greene Co., IL, where his family had gone to.

His wife and, by then, 2 young sons, Enoch & George, had moved to Ohio sometime after 4 Mar 1863 (prob with her parents?) and during George's Civil War service. They bought land and moved to Farmer's Station, Marion Twp., Clinton Co., OH, and then to Blanchester, Clinton Co., OH, by 1865, and lived in Blanchester through at least 1880. His wife's mother was living with them in Blanchester in 1880. George & family moved to Fayette Co., OH, by 1894.

George m 7 Sep 1858 Pendleton Co., VA/WVA, to Susan Catherine Judy , daughter of Adam Judy & Mary Kimble . Susan b 23 Jul 1841 Pendleton Co., VA/WVA - d 2 Apr 1934 Washington Court House, Fayette Co., OH - bu: 15 Apr 1934 Sec 3, Lot 39, Washintgton Cemetery, Washington C. H., OH - She is buried next to her son, Enoch, and shares a "mother-son" tombstone with him. George & Susan divorced in Fayette Co., OH, in 1894 (Fayette Co., OH, Court of Common Pleas, Case #11096).

II. Phillip Andrew Slusher born 11 Jan 1841 Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA - d 13 Sep 1841 (prob Hardy County?) - bu ? (prob Hardy County?).

III. Alfred Elijah Slusher born 18 Aug 1842 Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA - occ: farmer and carpenter - d (at his own hands - O. D. of medication) 10 Sep 1894 Kingfisher Co., OK - bu Kingfisher Cemetery, Kingfisher Co., OK.

He came to Vermilion Co., IL, as a child with his parents sometime between 1856 & 1860 - In Dec 1863, then a resident of Ash Grove, IL, he enlisted in the Union Army in E Company, 51st Volunteer Infantry, Illinois, and served in the Civil War - His military records describe him as 5'5" w/brown hair and green eyes and to be of dark complexion - He was captured by Confederate Forces in Franklin, TN, sent to Andersonville Prison and held capture there the last 5 months of the war - He was released and mustered out of the Union Army in Jul 1865 in Springfield, IL.

He m 25 Aug 1867 Robinson, Crawford Co., IL, to Elizabeth "Eliza" Jane Kellogg . They moved to Blanchester, Clinton Co., OH, in abt 1867/68 and lived near his older brother, George William Slusher, until at least 1880. Alfred Elijah, his wife and their Ohio born children, moved to Kiowa Co., KS, by 1884. He was left paralyzed by two strokes he suffered in 1887. By the opening of the Cherokee Strip in Sep 1893, they had moved to Oklahoma Territory. His wife Eliza and daughter, Ida May Slusher, were in the Cherokee Strip land run and claimed land in what was to become Kingfisher County in the state of Oklahoma - Both are named on the "Homesteader Memorial" in Medford, OK. Elizabeth "Eliza Jane Kellogg was the daugher of Isaac W. Kellogg & Mary Elizabeth Jane Wood . Eliza was b 20 Jul 1851Crawford Co., IL - d 20 Feb 1946 Enid, Garfield Co., OK - bu. next to her husband Alfred Elijah in Kingfisher Cemetery, Kingfisher Co., OK.

IV. James Loche Slusher b 14 Oct 1845 Moorefield, Hardy Co, VA/WVA - occ: postmaster, Mason, WVA d 17 Jun 1924 Elkhorn, Grant Co., WVA. James came to Vermilion Co., IL, as a child between 1856 & 1860. He returned to WVA before 1881 - m 16 Feb 1881 (m lic. by Rev. A. M. Cackley) in Grant Co., WVA, to Anna Phoebe Sites , daughter of Joel Sites & Lydia Getz . Anna b 14 Jan 1857 Hardy Co., VA/WVA - Chr 2 Mar 1857 by Rev. Martin Landhous in ? (prob Hardy County?) - occ: also served as postmaster - d 14 Dec 1923 WVA - bu Elkhorn Cemetery.

V. Mary Elizabeth Slusher b 18 Nov 1848 Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA - d 2 Feb 1917 in ? (prob in/near Wellington, Sumner Co., KS) bu Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, KS. She came to Vermilion Co., IL, as a girl with her parents btwn 1856 & 1860. Lived in Champaign Co., IL, in the 1870's - Moved to Kansas in ? Mary m __ Sep 1876 in ? (prob IL?) to George Payton West , son of ? & ?. George b abt 1844?-1848? in ? - d abt 1887 in ? - bu ?.

VI. Susan Rebecca Slusher b 19 Dec 1851 Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA - d 2 Feb 1907 Fort Seybert, Pendleton Co., WVA. Susan came to Vermilion Co., IL, as a girl between 1856 & 1860, she returned to WVA in ? (most prob before her 1878 marriage). Married 14 Nov 1878 in ? (prob WVA?) to Elijah Cowger , son of George Cowger & Elizabeth Judy . Elijah b 20 Jan 1837 Fort Seybert, Pendleton Co., VA/WVA - d 15 Jul 1913 Fort Seybert, WVA.

VII. Amelia Ellen SLUSHER b 8 Apr 1856 Moorefield, Hardy Co., VA/WVA - d 22 Feb 1863 Vermilion Co., IL - bu Ingersoll Cemetery, Potomac, Vermilion Co., IL.
