This page is the home of the Jackson County WVGenWeb project. Thanks to Rootsweb Cooperative and the efforts of Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson for providing free web space for the WVGenWeb Project and the related county pages for many years. Recent changes in ownership and changes in the policies of TGN have resulted in our decision to find a new location.

The WVGenWeb Project and USGenWeb Project and all associated counties have never been owned by Rootsweb or its parent companies and we prefer not to have banner ads on every page that indicate that we are owned by them. Our goal is still to provide genealogy information freely to all.

I am in need of lookup volunteers. If you have access to Jackson County data and you are willing to assist as a lookup volunteer, please contact Les Shockey, host of the Jackson County WVGenWeb page. Please include the title, author and any other data about your sources. To the lookup volunteers who have helped over the years, A BIG THANKS and please make sure to keep your contact information updated.

I am also looking for materials to add to these pages relating to Jackson County History and Genealogy. If you have family histories or other material that you are willing to share, please send them to the address above. This material will be added to the pages and appropiate credits listed as to the source and/or contributor.

About the WVGenWeb Project

In June of 1996, a group of genealogists organized the WVGenWeb project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in West Virginia, where collected databases would be stored and queries and lookup volunteers could be posted. The WVGenWeb Project went online on June 22, 1996 and has come a long way since then. This is not a commercial project, but the work of many volunteers who have and are devoting their free time to helping put genealogical information on the web. You may think that once all the counties are adopted that we will no longer need volunteers, but we need help more now than ever. Now that the framework is laid, we need to add more substance to our project. If you can help by providing genealogical information or would like to work on a particular project, please contact the appropriate county coordinator or the State Coordinator.

Thanks to Rootsweb Cooperative and the efforts of Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson for providing free web space for the WVGenWeb Project and the related county pages. Recent changes in ownership and changes in the policies of TGN have resulted in our decision to find a new location.

The WVGenWeb Project and USGenWeb Project have never been owned by Rootsweb or its parent companies and we prefer not to have banner ads on every page that indicate that we are owned by them.

If you wish to host or assist with a county page, please contact Lesley Shockey, coordinator of the West Virginia state page of the WVGenWeb project. Thanks.

You are the visitor since the counter was reset March 14, 2008.
