Latest on Jackson Brigade Reunion 2004 at Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia

Plans are underway for the 2004 Jackson Brigade Reunion, scheduled for August, 2004, in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

The date is set at Friday August 6, Saturday August 7 and Sunday August 8, 2004.

We have confirmation of the facilities. Here's a rough schedule we've come up with (subject to revision, of course):

Friday, August 6: A pre-reunion gathering at the Fissel home in Cairo, West Virginia, from which we'll take a caravan-style tour of family-related sites in the Cairo-Cisco area. The tour will likely be of interest only to those directly connected to the family and die-hard family historians; it may require a bit of walking. We'll eat at the Fissels either before or after the tour.

Saturday, August 7: We'll meet at the community building in Jackson Park, Vienna (adjacent to Parkersburg) for reunion registration, mingling and a coffee-and-donut breakfast. Following breakfast, we'll depart on a bus tour of historic family-related sites in Parkersburg, including the Jackson fountain in City Park, the James M. Jackson bust/fountain in courthouse square, Riverview Cemetery, and--we hope--a couple of additional spots. We have the community building rented for the whole day, and folks will be welcome to have lunch there and chat, but many may wish to further explore the Parkersburg area singly or in groups.

Sunday, August 9: We will depart from Point Park, Parkersburg aboard an Ohio River sternwheeler for a picnic on nearby Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park. The picnic will include a speaker on local history, our business meeting and memorial service.

HHS incorporates families with all three of the variant spellings of the name:

Hinchman, Henchman, and Hensman. Research has confirmed that persons bearing those names hail from common ancestors in England. West Virginia Hinchmans are especially invited to attend to help extend a warm mountain welcome to cousins from around the country.
