ROGERS/RODGERS

I am looking for the parents/siblings of Fred Rogers(Rodgers) who was born in Earling WV in 1922. His father was killed in a mining accident when Fred was 4-6 years old. Fred and a sister were sent to an orphange in Louisville Ky, where Fred was adopted by the Mengel family. Fred was taken from the orphange and was not permitted to tell his sister goodbye. I am wondering if you can help me find Fred's parents and/or siblings. The family was supposed to be rather large and these two children were the youngest. I have been unable to find a birth record for Fred in WV. The obit for his father would be helpful, do you have any suggestions on where to look for that? Any help you can give me will REALLY be appreciated. I am doing this search for my childhood friend, Barbara, who is Fred's daughter. Thanks again.

JOHN HENRY MULLINS

I need information on my ggrandparents. His name was John Henry Mullins. He was born in Kentucky but died sometime after 1894 in Logan County. She was born in Kentucky, also. After John died, she married a man whose last name was Wiley from Dingess. She passed away on November 9, 1933 in Aracoma. I really need to know any information I can get on these two individuals. I am looking for any information at all about my grandfather, Peter STOYNOFF (b. abt 1896 in Bulgaria; died 1930s-1940s). I believe he came to America between 1910 and 1920, and he married my grandmother, Nola PERKINS, in 1927 in Logan County, West Virginia. Nola lived most of her life in Logan County. She was the daughter of Watt Anderson PERKINS (b. abt 1858, Kentucky) and Cora THOMAS (b. 30 MARCH 1893, Carter County, Kentucky). Watt was the son of Jacob PERKINS (b. abt 1830, Kentucky) and Atheline DORUM (b. abt 1827, Kentucky). Jacob was a Union soldier in the Civil War and signed up in Lexington (I believe) with his brother George PERKINS. Anybody know who Jacob and George's parents were? I cannot find them before 1860.

I've been researching the Justice family for five months and some. Most every line of them came from Pike County, KY. I have been unable to find a Death date for Dr. James Isaac Justice(Grand Uncle) of Logan. My Great Great Grand Father Greenville Justice Married Rebecca Ferrell from Ferrell Branch, in Logan. His Father Peyton Justice was hung in 1863 by Union Scouts. It was one of them raw deals "Where are your sons and Horses". His wife "Mary Polly Blackburn" indited several men, but they never stood trial. My theory is that Peyton's sons left for either Logan or Wyoming Counties to join up with the Confederacy, but I have no proof of this. The Kentucky archives have nothing for them in their Civil War Indexes. FAJ/MARY VICTORIA CHAMBERS FERRELL (FARRELL)

Looking for anything on this family. This was my great grandfather and his first marriage was to Phoebe Hatfield. His second marriage to Mary Victoria produced eight children according to census records but there is some reason to question the first four of eight children. FAJ was born in Mingo County , the son of John Baptist Ferrell and Jane Taylor Ferrell. The first two children, Gladys Stella, b 1883 and Brooks Aileen, b 1885 had the same father but not FAJ. The next child, Grover Cleveland, b 1886 was listed as having a father named William S. Ferrell and mother ?? Vance. The next child, James O'Keith is listed as having a father named Amer Vance (Ferrell)??. The remaining four children were FAJ and Mary's children. Would like to correspond with anyone who might be able to help me find who their parents might be. My theory is that they were adopted by FAJ and Mary from family members. I have quite a bit of information on the entire family, just need help finding a link in all of this.

ROHLAND STORE IN LOGAN COUNTY

Does anyone remember or know of a "Rohland" store in Logan County Seat? ca 1920s or so? I have an old enlarged photo of a street corner that someone told me was of Logan. I would like to verify this in some way. This ?drug? store has an vertically elongated sign with the word "soda" horizontally with the name "Roland" vertically and the word "lunch" again horizontally at bottom. It sits next to a 5 & 10 cents store that is on the corner. I can't make out the name of the 5 & 10. In this photo, is a boy in knickers, and the cars lead me to guess the 1920s. Any help will be appreciated!

NEED PICS OF HATFIELD CEMETERY, SARAH ANN

A few years ago, my wife and I made a special trip to Logan to try to find the Hatfield cemetery. We spent the night in our motor home at a large market parking lot. The following morrning, by chance we met a man who was named Hatfield. He was a mine inspector and he led us in his car to the cemetary where we took numerous pictures. On returning home to Redding Ca. the pictures were destroyed in developing. Among them was the statue of Devil Anse enclosed inside a fence and some overall pictures of the cemetary that included the Hatfield sign down at the road. I know this is an off the wall request, but could you direct me to someone who might take some pictures for me. I found your web page today, My great grandfather was Samuel M Hatfield who I haven't been able to find a history on, but believe he settled in southern Indiana as my grandfather, Samuel Henry Hatfield lived at Owensville in Gibson County. I also grew up there. I am 82 years old and am trying to put something together to leave for my children. Anyhow, it is exciting to be able to send e-mail as my early life was in the days of silent movies and telephone party lines with individual rings.Nice talking to you. I am trying to find any information at all on a William Mann(s) who was born ca. 1825-1830 who supposedly married a Marinda Garten who was born around 1830. The only thing I know is that someone had annotated the 1850 Logan County, WV census record of the Elijah Garten family whose wife was Mary (Polly). In this 1850 census it listed Mary (Polly) as being the daughter of a Carper. It also listed Marinda Garten, age 20 years old, as marrying a William Mann or Manns. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT THIS WILLIAM MANN??????????? I can't remember who annotated this particular census but I'd love to find the person who provided the Mann surname and see if they know anything more. My paternal grandfather was Fred White of Logan, WV born 10/04/24. His father and mother were Burley White and Irma (White) White, respectively. Burley White, my great-grandfather, had a father named Dave White. That's about all I know about the White surname. I want to know what country they originated from. Can you help me? My paternal grandmother is Ruby (Slade) White, born 4/26/28. She is the daughter of Isaac "Ike" Slade and Gracie (Pack) Toppings. Isaac's dad was Joe Slade. Gracie's mother was Fannie (Wheeler) Pack. I am researching the Browning lines from Logan County, VA/WV. I am trying to find Allen K.M. Browning believed to have been born in Logan County, VA in April 1824, his father may have been Francis and his mother Tabitha Vance. It is believed that Allen married three times, first to Sarah/Sally Webb, second to Barbara Ann Crow, third to Angeline Wiley Daniels. I do not have any documentation for this theory but it is a theory held by several other researchers of Allen Browning. I am interested in the marriage of Allen and Sarah Webb, I think, but need proof, that this union produced my great great grandfather Mitchell Browning. My dad and I are trying to track down his aunt, her name was Elizabeth (Ferrell) Maynard, she was married to a Herman or Harman Maynard (not sure of the exact first name) Elizabeth was born in 1881 to Samuel and Sarah (Block) Ferrell. Her husband was born around 1875. Elizabeth also had a daughter that we are trying to find information on, and any family members that are still living. The daughter's name was Lydia (Maynard) Perry, she was married to Harvey Perry. I am searching for information about Mathias Brown Jr. He was the son of Mathias Brown and Polly Mason. He married Vica (Vicie) Burgess April in 1899 or 1900. I am looking to find any information or photos of my great grandpa, Tolbert "Tucker" Hibbitts (Hibots). He was born 1867 in Logan Co, WV and died in 1929 in Dickenson Co, VA. He was a tall, thin man with brown hair and blue eyes. "Tucker's" parents were Charles Hibbitts (Hibots) and Julia Ann Workman of Logan Co, WV. He married a Lovina (LJ, Vinnie) Rose. They had 2 boys, Wayne and Ballard Hibbitts (Hibots). Wayne Hibbitts(Hibots) was born 1895 and Ballard was born 1897. Lovina died in 1897 sometime after the birth of her son, Ballard. "Tucker" worked at the Slagle Mines at Rum Creek and boarded at the Workman home. I spoke with a Garnet Morris Workman, she was a little girl when he stayed with her family, and she has told me that he was a "fun" man and like to play tricks on the children. She said also that he was a good man and everybody liked him. "Tucker" would sometimes have his boys with him while he was in Logan, but other times, it is assumed that, they stayed with their grandma, Julia Ann Workman. I have also been told by many people that "Tucker" might have been in a fight and killed a man in Logan and left the area. I do not know if this is true or not. He lived his last days in Dickenson Co, Va working for Ridder Lumber Company and at one time living with my grandpa, Wayne Hibbitts. "Tucker" died in 1929. I am seeking information on my paternal grandfather - Lee Brown - born in/around Lewis Co WV abt 1870. He worked for the mills and the railroads in and around Logan and Mingo Co WV in the early 1900's. He is thought to have had a son living in Logan in the 1920's & '30's. He married my grandmother - Nannie Fleming - d/o Elijah A. and Martha Jane Hall Fleming in Pike Co KY in 1913. They had six children by 1924 and divorced around 1931-32. I am researching a particular Stratton lineage in and around the Pike County area during the period of 1836 through about 1890. In my research I noticed that there was a County Clerk about 1860 in what is now Mingo County by the name of William Straton. Would you have any information on this gentleman? Could it be William H. Stratton circa 1835-1877 (wife Nancy J. Helvey) from the KY side of the Tug Fork? His son, my maternal grandfather, John Wesley Stratton (wife Mary Adams) had a daughter Nancy Ann in what is now Mayflower, KY about 1885 just a few miles from Williamson on Johns Creek, KY. Should there be a source of info on William Straton, I would be most appreciative. Specifically: 1) vitals on William Straton; 2) Wife/Sons/Daughters; 3) marriage record of John Wesley Stratton and Mary Adams.

My mother died in Logan County in early 1924. If anyone has access to death records for that period I would like to know the date. Her name was Thelma Price Birchfield. She lived in Three Forks but died in a small bospital farther on down Buffalo Creek.. I can't get a death certificate from the state since I do not know the date, nor do I know her birthdate.
