     James A. Chambers mustered in on 7 Aug 1861 to serve in Company "B" 7th West Virginia Infantry. He re-enlisted in Feb 1864 and sustained a gunshot wound of his left hand at the Wilderness. He was honorably discharged with Company "B" on 1 Jul 1865.

     On 7 Mar 1867, in Marshall County, West Virginia, Alex married Sarah E. Standiford, born 30 Nov 1841. She was the daughter of William Standiford and Eliza Wellman.
