Will of Lewis Grindstaff

In the name of God amen I Lewis Grindstaff of Ohio County and 
Commonwealth of Virginia being weak in body but of sound and perfect 
mind and memory blessed be to Almighty God for the same do make and 
publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following 
that is to say

First I will and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Rozanah all my 
household furniture excepting one desk and six chairs together with 
two horse creatures being the choice of my stock also four milk cows 
the choice of my stock six sheep and sixteen hogs with harness 
sufficient for waggon or plow to be hers and to continue to be hers 
during her natural life.

After her decease my will and intention is that the household 
furniture be divided equally to my three youngest daughters. I also 
give unto my beloved son Moses one young mare with a priviso that he 
put sd mare to a horse yearly, my will is that my Son Jonathan shall 
have the first colt and my son Thomas the Second. I also will and 
bequeath unto my son Lewis seventy four dollars to him by me already 
paid. I also give and bequeath unto my beloved son Thomas one hundred 
dollars. Also I give and bequeath unto my three beloved daughters 
Mary, Catherine and Sabre each one of them twenty five dollars, the 
aforesaid several sums to be collected & put to interest for their 
use and delivered to them as they may come of age.

The residue of my Moveable property that is not herein Mentioned my 
will is that it is to be sold at public sale and the balance of the 
money that is not herein mentioned to be qually not but before I say 
divided will give to my sons Jonathan and Moses each one out of the 
aforesaid sum twenty five dollars and then the remainder equally 
divided among all sons and daughters. If in case there shall be a 
balance and those that is not of age to receive it as before 
mentioned when they arrive at age.

My will is further that Rozanah my wife shall have full command of my 
freehold estate that is to say all that my plantation with all the 
privileges thereunto belonging to be hers and at her command and to 
continue to be hers til my children is all of age, that is to say in 
case she continues to be my widow, but in case of her Marrying again 
shall have the one third of the aforesaid property til the aforesaid 
time when and after my youngest child comes of age my plantation 
shall be sold to the best advantage - of which purchase money I will 
and bequeath to my beloved wife Rozanah the one third to be hers 
during her life and the remainder of said purchase money I will shall 
be qually divided among all my sons and daughters

And I do hereby appoint John Hover and Richard Campbell my lawful 
executors to put in force and execute every intention of this my will 
hereby revoking all former wills by me made in witness whereof I have 
hereunto set my hand and seal this May the 22d in the year of our 
Lord 1812.

Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Lewis 
Grindstaff to be his last will and testament in the presence of us 
who have hereunto subscribed out names as witnesses in the presence 
of the testator

A true copy of the original which was proven in Court at September 
Term 1812 by the oaths of Daniel Campbell, John Campbell and Edward 
Ray the subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded.
