Description by Bill Leichter:
"I went out the road about 3/4 mile to a monument on the right up on a small hill above the road. There is a beautiful marker there. I thought someone on the list might be interested so here is a description. It stands about seven feet high and is shaped like two tree trunks with limbs entwined. There are a few carved white oak leaves and also flowers. The trunk on the left has the following inscription: John W. Spencer, born 2-27-1842, died 2-5-1914. There is a carving that indicates he was in the Civil War but it has weathered to the point that the unit can't be made out. At the bottom of this trunk is a small carved piece, like a piece of a tree, with the word "Father" carved in it. The trunk on the right has the following inscription: Effie Spencer, born 2-1-1866. The place for the death date is blank. At the bottom of this trunk is a carved piece, like a piece of a tree, with the word "Mother" carved in it. It is a beautiful headstone and is in very good shape. It is near where the blacksmith shop of Rock Lick was back in the 1850s and 1860s. Someone takes pride in the location and monument and keeps the grass mowed to it and around it. Someone had placed flowers and flag at this lone monument."

NOTE: In January 2013, Pat Bondonese sent a photo of the aforementioned stone. She stated, "It is not located in the Rock Lick Cemetery but out the road from it a short distance." PHOTO
