Update & Photos by Robert Myers, Mark Myers, James Myers & Robert Riggenbach, May 2005.
To get to this cemetery turn left at the top of Woodland Hill and Burch Ridge Road. There is a Church of God at the forks of the road; follow the road until you reach the Riggenbach home. This cemetery is a short distance from the house in the edge of the woods.
NOTE FROM MARK MYERS, May 14, 2005: The old Miller (Smith-Miller) cemetery, located on Route 29, on the farm of Bob Riggenbach near Doty Cemetery, was cleaned out on Wednesday May 11, 2005. The cemetery was quite overgrown with large trees, multiflora rose, rasberry or blackberry brambles, tree saplings, and fallen dead trees. Robert Myers, Mark Myers, James Myers and Robert Riggenbach cleaned the brush, and on then returned to take inventory of the remaining grave stones. Surprisingly, a good number of them were readable and others were read with shaving cream and a squegee. The stones were photo-inventoried.
Anyone who wishes to see the cemetery should know that it is viewable, probably for a limited time. If there are any volunteers who would like to put some polish on the cleanup or assist with continuing maintenance, it would be appreciated. A shot of Roundup on the multiflora rose would help bring it under control, and allow some grasses to grow and make the area a little more maintainable. --- Jim put a flag on Civil War veteran Benjamin Smith's grave.
GPS coordinates of the cemetery are: N39º 47.693' - W80º 48.946'. The cemetery is on private property, so anyone planning to visit should call Bob Riggenbach at (304) 843-5263 or stop by the house before going to the cemetery.
NOTE: Use your own judgement about the readings on the stones. The 3 BIDDLE graves are also listed on the BIDDLE CEMETERY page. The BIDDLE Cemetery is probably the SMITH-MILLER Cemetery but a number of the graves listed on that page were not found in the SMITH-MILLER Cemetery during this extensive cleanup. - Please write if you know about the other Biddle graves.
