Ethel May Ray Hadley

The first "Miss Moundsville," Ethel May (Ray) Hadley, is celebrating her 100th birthday. Born June 6, 1911, she is the daughter of the late Charles and Leta M. (West) Ray.

A member of Moundsville High School's Class of 1930, Ethel May graduated with honors. She majored in Home Economics, and participated in Girls' Reserve, Girls' Glee Club, Drama Club, and the Orospolitan. That year, she was named "Miss Moundsville."

Ethel May married Raymond Frank Hadley, Moundsville High Class of 1927. Their wonderful marriage lasted for nearly sixty years, until his death in 1988. They were blessed with two daughters, Dorothea and Donna Jean.

For many years, Mrs. Hadley served on the board of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She currently resides in Pompano Beach, and is surrounded by five generations of her family, as well as many friends.

Ethel May has represented Moundsville High School in both spirit and success, and she is an inspiration to all who know her. She has shared her knowledge and her memories, and she has touched countless lives during the century of her life.

Ethel May Ray Hadley died on August 23, 2011.
