BURGESS, ROSA McHENRY - Wife of Senator Walter F. Burgess died at her home in Glen Dale, WV in her 68th year. She was born 12 Apr 1879 in Wetzel Co, WV, a daughter of the late A.J. and Maggie Williams McHenry. Mrs. Burgess leaves her husband; one son, Lee Burgess of Glen Dale; and one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Weston of Allentown, PA. A daughter, Mrs. Edna Skean, died in September 1935. Deceased was a member of the Simpson Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star of New Martinsville, and the Ladies' Shrine of Wheeling, WV. The body was taken to Grisell Funeral Home in Moundsville, WV. (Wetzel Co, WV "Democrat" - 10 Apr 1947)

COOPER, MELVINIA McHENRY - Was born in Marshall Co, (W)VA on 10 Jul 1833. Having lived to the good old age of eighty-seven years, ten months, and seventeen days, she passed to the great beyond just after sunset on Friday, 27 May 1921. She was the wife of Thomas Cooper, who preceded his wife in death in the journey home, having finished his work here 4 Mar 1901. Mrs. Cooper came to Putnam Co, WV in the year 1859, being united to her husband in marriage in Marshall county in the year 1853. She was a member of the Church of God. She was commonly known as "Aunt Vine." She spent the last twenty years of her life with her nephew, John Booth, of Bancroft. Having never been blessed with children of her own, she bestowed her motherly devotion upon her nephew. She was laid to rest in Grandview burying ground on 29 May 1921. Rev. John Smith conducted the services.

McHENRY, ADDIE PARSONS - Wife of Charles L. McHenry, age 64 years, of Piney, WV, died 6 Dec 1943. Mrs. McHenry was born in Marshall Co, WV, 5 Sep 1879, a daughter of James and Sophia Conley Parsons. She was a member of the M. E. Church. Funeral services were held at Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove, WV. Burial was made in the Greenlawn Cemetery, New Martinsville, WV. Surviving Mrs. McHenry are her husband, six sons, Paul of Hastings, WV; Arthur of California; Howard of Piney; William of Michigan; Andrew of Ohio; and Morris of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Arnett of Huntington, WV; one sisters, Mrs. Edith McHenry of Grafton, WV, and a brother, Elias Parsons of Wheeling, WV. McHENRY, ADELINE - 91, widow of Alfred McHenry, died February 23, 1951. She was the daughter of James and Susan Moore Newman and was born December 16, 1859. Surviving are three sons, James and Okey of Paden City, Mont of Akron, a daughter, Mrs. Gerald Blake of Steubenville, OH, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Northview Cemetery at New Martinsville, WV.

McHENRY, ANDREW J. - Age 78, died 15 Oct 1929 at his home at Atwood, on the Wetzel-Tyler county line. He was born on Burch Ridge, Franklin District, Marshall Co, WV and resided there until after he was grown. He was married to Maggie Williams of the same neighborhood, who died four years ago. To this union twelve children were born: Charles of Atwood; Mrs. Rosa Burgess of Glen Dale, WV; Mrs. Jessie Rogers, wife of the late C. H. Rogers, at home; Mrs. S. C. Butler of Atwood; T. W. McHenry of Sistersville, WV; Mrs. C. W. Black of Tarentum, PA; Chest of Atwood; Forest of Duncan Falls, OH; Mrs. Leroy Mayfield of Iuka, WV; Mrs. Troy Wilcox of Iuka; Mrs. A. B. Steele of Akron, OH; and Mrs. Lemasters of Stone Branch, Logan Co, WV. Raymond was burned to death in a gasoline explosion six or seven years ago. J. E. McHenry of Moundsville, WV is a brother. Mr. McHenry was a member of the Atwood Methodist Church. Burial in the Atwood Cemetery.

McHENRY, CHESTER E. Age 82, of Pine Grove, WV, died 29 Jul 1969 in New Martinsville, WV He was born in Marshall Co, WV on 24 Jan 1887, the son of Andrew J. and Maggie Williams McHenry. He was a retired employee of the Hope Natural Gas Company and a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Conley McHenry; four sons, Donald of Middlebourne, WV; Edwin of Chester, WV; Leland of St. Marys, WV; and David, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Cunningham of Pt. Pleasant, WV; Mrs. Jessie Wilcox of Middlebourne; and Mrs. Rosemond Wilson of Pine Grove; one brother, Forrest of Zanesville, OH; four sisters, Mrs. Emmadora Mayfield of Kettering, 0H; Mrs. Blanche Wilcox of Paden City, WV; Mrs. Bessie Steele of Akron, OH; and Mrs. Delora Vaughn of Parkersburg, WV; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Friends received at Palmer Funeral Home in Elm Grove, WV. Burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Paden City, WV.

McHENRY, MRS. EDITH PARSONS - Of Moundsville, WV, died at her home on 22 Aug 1953. She was born in 1870 in Marshall Co, WV, a daughter of the late James and Sophia Connelly Parsons. The deceased was a resident of the Moundsville vicinity her entire life. Surviving are three sons, Louis E. McHenry of Moundsville; George McHenry of Minneapolis, MN; and Edward McHenry of Detroit, MI; and a daughter, Mrs. Roxie Smith of Grafton, WV. In addition, a brother, Eli Parsons of Wheeling, WV, also survives. Mrs. McHenry was a life member of the Moundsville Christian Church. Her body was removed to the Riggs Funeral Home at Moundsville. McHENRY, ELTON M. - Age 66, a resident of Moundsville, WV, and operator of a service station in Moundsville, and a former Marshall county school teacher, died while at work Sunday morning, just after opening his station, on 14 Dec 1952. He was a son of the late George Penrose McHenry and Caroline Willison McHenry. He was born in Marshall county on 29 Dec 1886. He taught school in Marshall county and later went to Akron, OH, where he was associated with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He returned to Moundsville in 1944 and prior to opening his gasoline station, was employed by the U. S. Stamping Company. Surviving are a brother, Ula P. McHenry of Moundsville; a sister, Mrs. Della Coffield of Proctor, WV; and a grandson, Robert M. Patrick of Omaha, NE. Friends are being received at the Grisell Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, WV. (Wheeling, WV "News-Register" - 15 Dec 1952)

McHENRY, J. R. - Age 74, and a retired Woodlands, WV farmer, has died. He was the father of J. P. McHenry, superintendent of Ohio county schools. Mr. McHenry, a native of Fairview, WV, had spent his entire life in Marshall Co, WV. Surviving are two sons, two daughters, two brothers and ten grandchildren. Services will be held at Grisell Funeral Home in Moundsville, WV. Additional services will be held at Fairview, WV and burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. (Died 1937)

McHENRY, JESSE PARSONS - Age 72, died at his home in Warwood, WV. He was the retired Ohio County, WV superintendent of schools. He was born in Franklin District, Marshall Co, WV, on 5 Jul 1894, the son of John R. and Stella Virginia Parsons McHenry. A member of the Warwood Methodist Church, he attended Marshall county grade and high schools and West Liberty State Normal School. He received his B.S. degree at WVU and his Master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh. He had been superintendent of Ohio county schools for twenty-five years, retiring on 30 Jun 1960. Survivors include his wife, Beryl M. McHenry; two sons, Wilbur L. & Jesse P., both of Crown Point, IN; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Frinkley & Mrs. Clarence Goodrich, both of Moundsville, WV; & three grandchildren. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Moundsville, WV.

McHENRY, JOHN - (3/15/1825 - 11/24/1906) - Saturday evening at 4 o'clock death came to John McHenry an aged and respected citizen on the farm just out of town. Mr. McHenry was born in Marshall county March 15, 1825 and removed to this county in 1868 residing until a few years ago on the farm on Ivers flat. He was an industrious man and highly esteemed and liked by all who knew him. He had been ailing for some time and his last appearance in town was on election day when he came to cast his ballot. He is survived by an aged widow, five sons and four daughters. The funeral services were held at his late home by Rev. Luther D. Ashby followed by interment at Greenwood cemetery.

McHENRY, MRS. SUSAN - (3/12/1828 - 1/19/1909) - Mrs. Susan McHenry, an aged and highly esteemed resident of near Middlebourne, died Friday at the age of 80 years, ten months, and seven days. She was a member of the, Methodist Episcopal church for many years and was highly thot of in the neighborhood in which she lived so many years. Susan Clark McHenry was born in Marshall county March 12, 1828. In 1848, she was united in marriage with John McHenry and the fruits of this union were fourteen children, nine of whom survived her, as follows: T.E., J.J., and B.E. McHenry of Perry, Iowa, Roscoe of Winfield, West VA., Mr;. Emma Walton of McMechen, Mrs. M.A. Hoyle of Detroit, Michigan, W.G. McHenry, Mrs. Thomas Griffith and Mrs. George Walton of Middlebourne. In 1868, she came with her husband and family to the Ivers Farm near town where they resided for 32 years then removing to the home west of the bridge where she died. The husband died November 24, 1906 at the age of 81 years. The children present from a distance were: T.E. McHenry of Perry, Iowa, Mrs. M.A. Hoyle of Detroit and Mrs. Emma Walton of McMechen. The funeral was held at her late home Sunday afternoon conducted by her pastor Rev. G.W. Kepler followed by interment in Greenwood cemetery. (Appeared in the Tyler County Star, November 29, 1906)

McHENRY, MAGGIE WILLIAMS - Age 65 years, 10 months and 2 days, died at her home at Atwood, Tyler Co, WV on 24 Oct 1925. She was the wife of A. J. McHenry. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Williams of Marshall Co, WV and was born 14 Jan 1859. She was united in marriage with Andrew J. McHenry in the year 1877 and thirteen children, five boys and eight girls were born unto the union. Raymond died from burns from a gasoline explosion several years ago. She is survived by her husband and the following children: C.L.; T.W.; and S.E. of Atwood, WV; W. F. of Duncan Falls, OH; Mrs. Rosa Burgess of Moundsville, WV; Mesdames Jessie Rodgers and Gertrude Butler of Atwood; Mrs. Judith Black of Burdsville, PA; Mesdames Emaline Mayfield and Blanche Wilcox of Iuka, WV. Mrs. Dessie Steele of Akron, OH; and Mrs. Delores Lemasters of Logan, WV. She was a member of the M. E. Church at Atwood where services were held and interment in that cemetery.

McHENRY, PALEMON C. - Age 74, of Fairview, Franklin District, Marshall Co, WV, died on 19 Jul 1961, in Glen Dale, WV. He was a son of L. Mortimer and Mary Campbell McHenry. He was born on 27 Jul 1896 at Fairview and had been a farmer there all his life. He was a member of the Fairview Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilson McHenry. One son, Charles, lives in Cleveland, OH. Friends were received at the Grisell Funeral Home in Moundsville. The Rev. James W. Carty, Jr., of Bethany, WV, will officiate and burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. (Wheeling, WV "News-Register" - 20 Jul 1961)

McHENRY, RALPH - Age 63, of Moundsville, WV, has died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Dulcie Frankley of Moundsville. He was born in Woodland, Marshall Co, WV, on 2 Dec 1903, the son of John R. and Stella Parsons McHenry. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are one brothers, J. P. McHenry of Warwood, WV; two sisters, Mrs. Frinkley, and Mrs. Clarence Goodrich of Moundsville; and several nieces and nephews. Burial in the Grace Chapel Cemetery on Burch Ridge in Marshall. Co, WV.

McHENRY, RAYMOND M. - Age 71, of Moundsville, WV and formerly of Fairview, WV, died 3 Jul 1971 in Glen Dale, WV. He was born on 17 Dec 1896 in WV, the son of James and Elvina Chambers McHenry. He was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are a son, Paul, and a daughter, Mrs. Iris Kish, both of Lansing, MI. Friends may call at Grisell Funeral Home in Moundsville. McHENRY, ROSCO - Died at his home in Covington, KY on 26 Oct 1919. He was born in Marshall Co, WV in 1853, the son of John and Susan Clark McHenry. They moved to Tyler Co, WV when he was a young man. About 40 years ago, he left here and went to the southern part of the state. He married Liza Childers of Putnam Co, WV in 1879, who with two children, survive. The children are Lawrence McHenry and Minnie McHenry. They are both married. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Wilbur G. McHenry of Middlebourne, WV; Mrs. Manda Griffith of Ritchie Co, WV; Bell McHenry and John McHenry, both of Iowa; Mrs. E.J. Walton of McMechen, WV; Mrs. M. A. Hoyl of Chicago, IL; and T. E. McHenry of Covington, KY. He was a successful businessman and a Christian. ("Tyler County Journal" - 30 Oct 1919)

McHENRY, THEODORE WILSON - Age 68, an employee of the City of Sistersville, WV, died 25 Feb 1950. He was born in Marshall Co, WV, 29 Sep 1881, the son of the late A. J. and Maggie Williams McHenry. The deceased was a member of the First Baptist Church of SistersvilleSurviving are his wife, Mrs. Orpha Wiley McHenry and the following children: Mrs. Edward Stringer, Canton, OH; Glen McHenry, Alma, WV; Mrs. Maxwell Williams, Steubenville, OH; Mrs. Wade Stetson, Alexandria, VA; Mrs. Jack Fye, Moundsville, WV; Mrs. William Gallabrese, Steubenville, OH; seven grandchildren, also seven sisters; Mrs. Jessie Rogers, Sistersville; Mrs. Desie Steele, Akron, OH; Mrs. Delora Vaughn, Parkersburg,.WV; Mrs. Gertrude Butler, Atwood, WV; Mrs. Emmadore Mayfield, Iuka, WV; Mrs. Blanche Wilcox, Iuka, WV; Mrs. Judith Black, Natrona Heights, PA; and three brothers, Charley McHenry, Ravenna, OH; Forrest McHenry, Zanesville, OH; and Chester McHenry, Conway, WV. One brother, Raymond McHenry, and a sister, Mrs. Rosa Burgess, preceded him in death. Burial was in the Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.

McHENRY, ULA P. - Of Moundsville, WV, died 27 Oct 1961. He was born in Marshall Co, WV on 1 Nov 1897, a son of George P. and Caroline Willison McHenry. He was a guard at the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company at Natrium, WV. Surviving are his wife, Grace O'Neil McHenry, a son, Wilburn McHenry of ID; two daughters, Merna Nelson of CA; and Lyla Litman of Moundsville; a sister, Mrs. J. N. Coffield of Proctor, WV; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services held at the Lutes Funeral Home in Moundsville. Burial in the Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville, WV.

ROGERS, MRS. JESSIE - Age 84, of San Diego, CA, died on Saturday, 23 Jan 1965, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Imogene Mills. She was born 11 Jun 1880 in Proctor, WV, a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Maggie McHenry. Her husband was the late C. H. Rogers. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Imogene Mills, San Diego & Mrs. Audrey (Faye) Moore of Center Point, WV. Two brothers, Mr. Chester McHenry of Pine Grove, WV and Mr. Forrest McHenry of Duncan Falls, OH; four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Wilcox of Middlebourne, WV; Mrs. Emadore Mayfield of Dayton, OH; Mrs. John (Delora) Vaughn of Parkersburg, WV; & Mrs. Addie (Dessie) Steele of Akron, OH, also survive. She is also survived by four grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Sistersville, WV. She was buried 25 Jan 1965 at the Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, CA.

McHENRY, CRAWFORD, - Follows the trade of house carpenter in Centre District, Wetzel County, West Virginia, and in this district are his wife, Rebecca, and their three children; Thomas H., born September 1, 1877; John L., August 28, 1879; Margaret, September 1, 1881. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. McHenry was solemnized in 1875, at Freeport, Pennsylvania. He was born in Wetzel County, Centre district, July 28, 1851, a son of William and Margaret (Strosnider) McHenry, and she born in Wetzel county, Magnolia district, November 20, 1851. Crawford McHenry's postoffice address is at either Milo or Silver Hill, Wetzel County, West Virginia.

SHEPHERD, GEORGE W. - was born in Wetzel county, March 22, 1849, a son of Thomas and Elizabeth (McHENRY) Shepherd, who were among the first settlers on Wheeling creek, this State. He married a native of this county, Phebe H., daughter of Marshall and Eliza (Buchanan) Whiteman. Their marriage was consummated in Magnolia district, which is their home, where Mr. Shepherd gives his time to the labor of agriculture, the raising of grain and of stock. He had four brothers who served in the Federal army from the beginning to the close of the war between the States. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd are five living and one deceased namely: John A., Lucinda B., Dudley B., James F., Amanda M., Elizabeth M. - James F. is deceased, the others are at home. George W. Shepherd's address is New Martinsville, Wetzel county, West Virginia.
