Two promotions on the staff of Esso Standard Oil Cos Virginia-West Virginia division were announced yesterday by Roy E. McDaniel, manager.

William I. Ivey, Jr. was named manager of the fuel oil and burner department and Hubert C. Simms was named manager of the new industrial-commercial department. Both appointments are effective October 1.

Ivey, who succeeds the late J. H. Butterworth, has been with Esso for 30 years. He started as a warehouse clerk. For the past four years, he has been manager of the commercial, farm and aviation department. That department is being merged with the industrial sales department, which Simms has headed. The new department is the branch which Simms will manage.

Simms, who also has been with the firm 30 years, began as a service station salesman. He was industrial sales manager in Charleston before coming to Richmond in 1955 as industrial sales manager for the division.
