Marshall County, VA, Will book 1A page 27-28 James Freeland's Will I James Freeland of the county of Marshall and state of Virginia do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit: After the payment of all my just debts and funeral expenses out of my personal property. I give and bequeath 1st To my three daughters, Martha Taylor wife of John Taylor. Zermah Jefferson wife of James Jefferson and Elizabeth How wife of Adam How each the sum of one dollar: to be paid them by my executor hereinafter named. I having thertofore given them all I entended: 2nd To my daughter Chloe and to my son Stephen I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my personal property to be equally divided between them. 3rd To my daughter Chloe. I give and bequeath for and during her natural life one hundred acres of land being the old home place conveyed to me by Jeremiah Riggs & wife & afterward by me conveyed to John Freeland my son now deceased. Also one other tract of land for and during her natural life being fifty six acres on the waters of Hog Run both of which tracts are situated on Roberts Ridge in said county of Marshall and which last tract of 56 acres was conveyed by Nathan Masters and wife to my son John Freeland now deceased & which said tracts have descended to me as heir at Law of my said son John and after the death of said Chloe the aforesaid tracts of 100 acres & 56 acres are to go to my son Stephen Freeland his heirs and assigns forever: 4th To my son Stephen I give the two tracts of land being 60 acres and 32 acres which I have this day conveyed to him by deed to him and his heirsforever. 5th To my grandson John Freeland son of Stephen I also give the lot of ground in the town of Moundsville which I have this day conveyed to him by Deed: to him & his heirs forever. And lastly I appoint my friend Nicholas Wykert Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills and appointments heretofore by me made. Spring Term 1848 A writing purporting to be the will of James Freeland late of this County deceased was produced in Court for probate by Stephen Freeland and thereupon Henry Hoblitzell Joshua Garlow and William McCuen the subscribing witnesses thereto. And also Wylie H Oldham another witness were duly sworn and examined and the cause is continued until Monday next for further proceedings.
