Will of William McMechen

In the name of God amen I William McMechen of Ohio County in the commonwealth and state of Virginia being of perfect sound minde memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament in Memory and form following impremise it is my will & desire that my body, shall be decently buried the management of which I commit to the direction of my Executors herein after named.

Item 1 I give and bequeath to my eldest son James Mcmechen his Executors administrator and assigns forever one negro man named Rite & one negro boy named Hector

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Agness McColloch hir Executors administrators & assigns forever one negro woman named Sarah and one negro Boy named Ned

Item I give and devise to my son William Mcmechen his heirs and assigns fdorever the plantation adjoining the one on which I now live & Beginning for the Same in the River Ohio at three marked Sycamore trees and Running thence by a line of marked trees to a bank thence with the bank to a walnut tree and from thence along Caries fence to a Run known by the name of Coones's Run and thence up the left hand fork of said Run until it strikes the back line of the whole tract of land Near Genes Coones's Cabin & from thence along the line of the whole tract to the River at the narrows and from thence up the River to the place of Beginning

Item I give and desire to the said William Mcmechen his heirs and assigns forever all those my tracts of land in Ohio County lying and being on big Grave creek & containing about fourteen hundred acres of land be the same more or less

Item I give and desire to my son Benjamin Mcmeachen his heirs and assigns forever all that my dwelling plantation the same being the residue of the tract already devised to William Mcmechen but if it should so happen that the said William Mcmechen should die without issue of his body then & in that case it is my will and desire that the said Benjamin Mcmechen shall have to him his heirs and assigns forever the tracts afsd, and devised the said William Mcmechen & if it should so happen that the said Benjamin Mcmechen should die without issue of his body then & in that case it is my will and desire that the said William Mcmechen shall have the plantation devised to the said Benjamin to him the said William his heirs and assigns forever Item I give & bequeath to my daughter Sarah Mcmechen hir Executors administrators and assigns forever one negro girl called Beck the daughter of Cloe

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sidney Mcmechen hir Executors administrators and assigns forever one negro girl named Sue Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Mcmechen hir Ececutors administrators and assigns forever one negro girl called Beck the daughter of Poll

Item I give and bequeath to my three daughters Sarah Sidney & Jane all that my tract of land in Ohio county between fish & fishing creeks to them the said Sarah Sidney & Jean their heirs & assigns forever as tenants in common & not as Joint tenants but if it should so happen that either of my said three last mentioned daughters should die with isue of hir or their bodies then & in that case the survivors or survivor shall have hir or their parts Isue

Item I give & bequeath to my son Benjamin Mcmechen his Executors administratora & assigns forever one Negro Boy named Sam the son of Sam Item I give and Bequeath to my grand son David McMechen Broom and my grand daughter Frances Broom their heirs and assigns forever two hundred and fifty acres of land situate and being on licking creek near the blue licks in the state of Kentucky the same being one half of five hundred acres taken up and patented in my name by Ebinezer Corn the one half of which said corn retains for his trouble but if it should so happen that the said David Mcmechen Broom and Frances Broom should die without isue then & in that case it is my will and desire that agness McColloch my daughter shall have the same to hir hir heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath to My wife Sidney Mcmechen one third part of all my Real estate for and during the term of hir natural life

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter agness Mccolloch and my son William Mcmechen and Benjamin Mcmechen & to my daughters Sarah Sidney and Jean their Executors administrators & assigns forever all the rest and residue of my estate be the same of what nature or kinde soever for the use & benefit never the less of my wife Sidney Mcmechen for and during the term of hir natural life and if it should so happen that my wife Sidney should wish to give any of my negroes or property herein before not particularly divised to any one of my children herein before named in preference to the rest or other then and in that case it shall be in the power of the said Sidney Mcmechen to nominate and appoint such of my children as shall have such parts of my estate as (has) has not been particularly devised ---or disposed of such nomination or appointment to be made by the last will and testament of the sd. Sidney or any instrument of writing purpoting to be the same it is further my will and desire that such of my negroes as have not been particularly disposed of and such of them as the said Sidney Mcmechen shall direct by hir last will & testament or any instrument of writing purpoting to be the same shall be free and if it should so happen that my wife Sidney Mcmechn shall by hir last will and testament or any instrument of writing purpoting to be the same now and of my negroes herein not particularly disposed that she desires to be free them in that case each and every negro so set free shall have six acres of land for his or hir use for and during the term of his or hir natural life on such parts of land devised to my sons William & Benjamin as they their heirs or assigns shall think proper and lastly I do herby nominat constitute and appoint my wife Sidney Mcmechen and sons William Mcmechen & Benjamin Mcmechen executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoling all former wills by me made in witness whereof I the said William Mcmechen have hereunto sat my hand and seal this fifth day of June 1795.

I give unto Nancy Mccolloch the negro girl Beck that was willed to Sarah & Sarah is to have the one that was give to Sidney and Sidney the one that was give to Jeney & Jeney is to have now the childe with poll now has Nancy Mccollochis to have Beck during my Wifes natural life & to be disposed to hir at hir death to whom she thinks fit iff any of the above Negroes die they are to be made up out of the olde stock as witness my hand this eighteenth day of October in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety seven my design is that this may be fully considered & executed as if it had been so specefied in my foregoing will & testament which I do hereby ratefy and confirm witness
