Seeking information on a WILLIAM RIFFLE (born about 1837). He married a widow by the name of MARY ANN SAYRE LOVETT on January 2, 1857 in Mason Co. Mary Ann was the widow of Henry Lovett of Meigs Co. Ohio. A book on the Sayre family says that William Riffle was killed in the Civil War, but the census suggest otherwise. Though William Riffle does not appear on another census with Mary Ann after 1860, Mary Ann produced three more Riffle children after the war ended. The children of WILLIAM RIFFLE and MARY ANN SAYRE LOVETT RIFFLE were William H.(b. Nov 1857), Adam W. (b.abt 1859), Jacob C. (b.abt. 1861), Cora V. (b.abt. 1866), Lenora (b.abt.1869), and James A. (b.abt. 1874). Mary Ann had three other children from her marriage with Henry Lovett. They were, Mahala, Julia A., and Martin. If anyone has any information on WILLIAM RIFFLE I would love to hear from you.

I am looking for information on the PHILLIPS family in the Putnam, Mason, and Kanawha area. My great-great-great grandfather was Abraham PHILLIPS (b. 28 Dec 1817 WV d. 15 Aug 1893 Otterville Twp., Cooper Co., MO) who married Rachel [probably Carter] (b. 12 April 1818 WV d. 14 May 1907 Otterville, Cooper Co., MO). They were married about 1840. According to family tradition, they were supposed to have come from around Buffalo, WV in the year 1844. There are a number of PHILLIPS families in Kanawha Co. on the 1820 and 1830 censuses--including an Abraham Phillips that I believe may be the father of my ancestor. If anyone has any information regarding this family, it would be greatly appreciated.

Surname MASON: Searching for William MASON who, according to family lore, was a resident of Mason County before moving to Fairfield County, Ohio. Wm. MASON was born about 1770 and married an unknown woman in about 1810. They had 10 children born (in VA) as follows: Armstead MASON (b. abt 1811) who married Margaret HOLTZMAN, Richard MASON, (b. abt 1813-1817), Robert H. MASON (b. 24-Feb-1824) he married Susannah Brauneller, James Wesley MASON (b. 1825) who married three times. The rest of the children's names are unknown. Family lore also has it that Robert H. Mason, son of William was a prominent citizen of Mason County but no proof has been offered. Since all of William's children were born in "VA", except the final daughter, it is assumed that William Mason brought his family to Fairfield County sometime around 1830. If anyone has any information about William Mason or his children, I would very much appreciate hearing from you. I have substantial information on his descendants and am willing to share.

The 1910 census for Mason county show my great grandparents James Sherman Oliver and Martha Ann Roach Oliver. The children listed are Evert 17 ,Mystie 15, Edgar 12,William 10,Harold 5. The daughter Mannie Belle Oliver was married to Ben Franklin Woomer in Mason co., Evert Oliver later married Mary Woomer. Their sister Mystie die in a flood in the 1900's in Mason co., WV. My grandmother was one of several siblings. One of her sisters name was Ida. My grandmother's name may have Iva. I'm not sure. She is resting at a small church cemetary in a rural area of New Haven. She married a Walker, perhaps in 1906. He suposedly died in a construction accident the next county North of Mason Co. Both spent most of their lives in Mason County and are buried there. Their daughter, Elizabeth Blanche Somerville was born in Mason County on October 29, 1866. Andrew Somerville died on January 9, 1907 and is buried at Lone Oak which I believe is in Mason County. Mary Martha Washington died February 6, 1884 and is buried in the Somerville-Zuspan Cemetery, Lone Oak.
