Their children were: Laura Catherine, Ida F., Rebecca Isabel, Ada Florence, Mary C., Hariett V., and Ellen. Vienna died between 1873-1880, but Isaac was still living in Mason Co. in 1900.

Marriage Bond and Consent dated September 17, 1806 is on file on microfilm at Colson Hall, Morgantown JVW1006, Rolls 3 & 4. Marriage Bond has names spelled GRATEHOUSE, and her parents signed with a mark to James MICDADE and Rachel MICKDADE. John's parents are believed to be Daniel GREATHOUSE and Mary MORRIS. John and Sarah died in Roane County and are buried in Spencer Memorial Cemetery. Need to confirm John's parentage.

Need help with your Mason County of old. My Jonathan ESCUE/ESKEW 1810 m Amanda (HENSON???)1822, and famly story is that they lived in Buffalo area, Mason Co. WVA. I do not know their date of m but by 1849 they had a son William A. and Amanda had passed in child-birth and was burried in Bowles Cem. I have searched Putnam Co. area and I keep missing out. Mason has to be my link. as Jonathan would be 38 and Amanda 27 at birth of son that is old to have just been married but no other children exist. Jon m Lucinda WHITTINGTON then also of Putnam Co. 1851. But I find both John Henson and John WHITTINGTON in Mason Co 1840. So I know there has to be a connection to Mason for Jon. also. (both Henson and Whittington are parents of both wives). Are there any ESCUE/ESKEW/ HENSON/WHITTINGTON FAMILY OUT THERE!!!? Please end my years of searching and contact me.

I recently found a reference to a Susan Gibbs (b. 1845-1920) who married in Mason Co. a Wm. H. Lavender (b.1841 in Valley City-so where might that be for starters?-d.1890).I'm keenly interested in any and all Lavenders. Some day I'm discover which Lavender is the father to my gr.gr.grandpa Edward Paul Lavender(b. 1828 Amherst Co.,Va.)/Eliza Hager(1823-1913).These last two ended up in Johnson Co.,Ky. My answers lie across the river from Ky. and in "Old Virginia" somewhere. Thanks much for any shred of a lead. I am trying to assess the vailidity of a suspected connection between my ancestor Harriet Matilda MCDANIEL (born 1820 in DC; died 1867 in Meriwether County, GA; married William Sanders LAWSON about 1840); and Ann MCDANIEL (who I suspect is her mother). Ann appears in the 1840 and 1850 census listings for Mason County, WVa, as head of household with about 8 children of ages which could match Harriet. From a Bible record I have reason to believe that Harriet lived in her youth in Point Pleasant, WVa, which is in Mason County, WVa. Many of Ann's children (not including Harriet who was not living with her by then) are listed in the 1850 Mason County census as being born in DC or Va. My theory is that Ann was born about 1790 in DC. I don't know her maiden name. I believe her family stayed in the DC area. She met a man named Ezekiel MCDANIEL from WVa, and probably married him in DC in about 1810 to 1815; and they lived there until about 1831 when they moved to Mason County. Ezekiel MCDANIEL died in about 1835. Ann MCDANIEL continued living in Mason County with her 8 children, including Harriet, Virginia and Julia. Ezekiel apparently had family there -- I believe brothers Daniel, John, and Jeremiah Jr. I believe his parents were Jeremiah McDANIEL Sr. and Rachel SAYRE. Does anyone have any information that help me to confirm this theory, or identify the Ann’s maiden name. Any help at all would be appreciated.

I am researching Esom Hannan son of Thomas Hannah and Elizabeth Henry. Esom married Miriam Morris in Kanawha county. SISSON on June 21, 1874 in Mason County. Florence died in the flu epidemic on December 5, 1918. James died January 12, 1927 and both are buried in Showen cemetery. James was the son of the Civil War veteran (Co K 11th West Virginia Inf) Benjamin Casto Dewees and Grace Casto. Florence came from Hancock County, Illinois. There children were as follows:

I have a Benjamin REDMOND, b. ca 1785 in Loudoun Co., VA, who moved to Mason Co. ca 1814 with his wife, Nancy JAMES. He owned a saddlery shop in Point Pleasant and a farm a few miles away. He and his wife had 2 children before her death ca 1820, Andrew James (A.J.) REDMOND and Mary Ann REDMOND. A.J. REDMOND married Ala AMOS. They had 2 children, Nancy and Benjamin. Sometime after her death (bef 1849) A.J. died ca 1849 en route to California. He had left his children in the care of his father, Benjamin REDMOND. Mary Ann REDMOND married Lemuel H. JAMES ca 1834 in Mason Co. They had the following children: Mary (Mollie) (m. Clay NEAL), Elizabeth, Virginia (Jenny), Alva (m. Miss HILL), Hector (or Hiter?), Andrew Frank (b. ca 1850; m. Mary Alice HARRIS), and Benjamin (m. Miss SKINNER). All these children were born in Point Pleasant except the youngest, Ben, who may have been born in Wood Co. Mary Ann REDMOND's husband, Lemuel H. JAMES, disappeared in 1854 on a westward journey, and Mary Ann was killed by a slave later that same year. The younger children were taken in by Tillinghast "Old Till" COOK of Wood or Mason Co. Tillinghast COOK was a son of Joseph COOK, Sr. and Elizabeth BARKER. His sister Nancy COOK, who died in 1849 in Wood Co., had been married to a John JAMES. Not sure if this John JAMES was a relative of Lemuel H. JAMES or of Mary Ann REDMOND's mother, Nancy JAMES. I have some info on the REDMOND family and a little on the family of Nancy JAMES, but only have Lemuel H. JAMES' father (Abel or Able). Would like to know more about all of them, and to connect John JAMES with the family of Nancy JAMES of Loudoun Co., VA or the family of Lemuel H. JAMES. Happy to share info.

The only information that I have on her came from an incident that occured when I was young. We were traveling on a dirt road to the Stone Homeplace on Thirteenmile Creek in Mason County when my mother said, "Look! There's aunt Maggie Kent." It has been reported William was a vet of the Civil War. GRIMM line: Elizabeth GRIMM (my grandmother) daughter of Milow GRIMM ( born 1853) and EMMA GIBBS. Milow's parents were Charles (born about 1844 in Va) and Harriet (born about 1844 in Indiana). I believe that Simon GRIMM was Charles' father. In a nutshell: John Henry was the immigrant ancestor; came into Penn prior to 1790; migrated down the Valley of Virginia and was in Scott Co. by 1803. His direct line is Daniel Henry, George Hopkins Henry, Napoleon Bonaparte Henry, Sue Henry. His brother went to Indiana and possibly to Ohio. If any of this seems pertinent please email me. In 1866, when Harvey was 4 yrs. old, Sarah Jane married Archibald Woodrum in Mason Co. Harvey then took Woodrum as his last name. Hello, I am trying to find more information on Jacob WETZEL (WHETSEL, WHETZEL, WETZELL). I have that he was born 1803, New Haven, Mason Co., VA; m. Eve SMITH 03 Oct 1822 in Lewis Co.., VA. From a newspaper article quoting their son Lewis S., Jacob d. 1862. The same article names Jacob's father as George who fought in war of 1812. Does anyone have any other information on Jacob or his ancestors? I am aware of 7 children by Jacob and Eve. Searching for FORTHS. I have heard that there is a Forth Cemetery on Ashton-Upland Road in southern Mason county. Does anyone know who is buried there? I am searching for the parents, relatives, or siblings of Andrew Jackson FORTH, (1855-1932). He may possibly have been the son of a James Forth. Andrew married Susan HENRY, (1855-1895) daughter of J.Thomas Henry and Martha (Jordan) Henry. The Henry's lived on or near Crab Creek Rd. in WV. Searching for any information regarding my Grandmother and family. Her obituary gives her birthplace as Mason County, W. Va. Her death certificate lists her birthdate as 23 April 1892; death date as 18 April 1929 and her parents as John DAVIS (DAVIES) and Belle FIGGINS or possibly Tiggins. My grandmother's name was Catherine DAVIS and she married first, Mathew HARN (Hearn-Herrin). They had one child, Clifford before Mathew died in 1916. She then married his brother, Oscar Earl Harn, had two daughters and was living in New Boston, Ohio at the time of her death. Any help appreciated!

I am searching for the family that took in Iva Pearl FORTH (born 1887) age 10 and her sister Hattie FORTH (born 1893)age 2 when their mother died. They were the children of Andrew Jackson FORTH (1855-1932) and Susan HENRY (1855-1895). Andrew was still living and raising all of his children but these two, one named Goldie, and the newest baby Stella. It is thought that they went to live with relatives. The FORTH's lived in Clay Township, Gallia County, Ohio, but had relatives in W.Virginia, some around Huntington. I know there were HENRY relatives in W.V. Iva married Henry VANCE and Hattie married Clyde DABNEY. Hattie lived the later half of her life on Crab Creek Road in W. Virginia. Can you help me find where they went to?
