I am working on the Roush line. My ancestor is James Roush 1823-1906.
He took possession of land in Missouri that was awarded him by
Abraham and Daniel Roush from their service in War of 1812. I
know Daniel and Abraham lived in Mason County. I am trying to
find James' parents and siblings and his connection to Daniel
and Abraham Roush who served in War of 1812. James was my great-great

I am searching and seeking information on Priscilla Knapp, the
daughter and the second child of Moses Knapp, who lived most of
his life in Mason County, Virginia (now Mason County, West Virginia)
She married a Harrison. This fact is based on the Moses Knapp's
Last Will and Testamnet which was written and signed on September
8, 1859. It was proven by the County Court on April 2, 1860. In
this document Priscilla Harrison is mentioned as receiveing a
portion of Moses Knapp's estate. William Knapp born abt 1796,
was the first son and first child of Moses Knapp. If anyone out
there can provide me with any information on the Harrisions or
Priscilla Knapp would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

COFFMAN/KAUFMAN,

Jeff Kaufman Sat, 14 Nov
1998 23:46:16
I am attempting to confirm Mason County origins of my family.
John KAUFMAN originally from Shenandoah VA, married Martha HUGHS
of Western Virgina ,(apparently in Mason County) in 1830's. They
started a family and moved west to Indiana in 1853. They had at
a number of children including my GGGGF Andrew (A.F.) KAUFMAN
,born 1 Mar 1844, also presumably in Mason County . Other children
(from 1850 Census**) were: John M. (b about 1835), Adonisam? (b.
about 1837). Possibly others. I have a refrence (local history
text from Indiana) indicating they came from what is now Mason
County WVA. The 1850 Census seems to back this up. Can anyone
be of assistance adding to or confirming any of this info?? Thank
you VERY MUCH for your considerate help!

Hesson is My mother's (Norma Hesson Dodge) maiden name.
She still owns land in Union District where her father (Edward

Hesson, enlisted in Civil War at Point Pleasent from Deerlick.
He married my great-grandmother, (1st wife - Lucinda Catherine
McCoy) Malinda RoseEllen Hughes in 1879 in Mason Co. I've
been heping my mother with familly research for about 5 years,
but only recently got a computor. We are stuck as to who
John Hesson's parents were. On marriage certificate to Lucinda
McCoy (Megis Co. 1865) it states that he was born in Allegenghy
Co., Pa. No place else can we find his birthplace or parents
names. His birth date is given on different documents as
different years - from 1839-1845. My grandfather, Edward Hesson,
attended school in Elmwood and married Phoebe Sullivan from Putnam
Co. Her grandparents were the Clarks who were postmasters
at Bee. We have much information on Clarks, Sullivans, and also
the Hessons of my grandfathers generation, but would love any
help with earlier Hessons and Hughes. Thanks.

Christopher Dunn Fri, 11 Sep
1998 22:55:33
Looking for information on Riley "Rial" Finney and his
family. Riley Finney married for the first time on August 31,
1853 to Lucy Rottenberry in Mason County. In 1855 his son Thomas
Finney was born, and he died un married in 1925 and is buried
in Pt. Pleasant. It then appears that Lucy passed away between
1855 and the early 1860's. By 1865 Riley Finney was married again
to Margaret. Margaret maiden name is believed to be Eckard but
I do not have evidence of this at this time, except for family
stories. Riley Finney and his second wife had three children:
Thomas Finney b. 1865, Annie Lee Finney b. March 17, 1867 d. October
27, 1925. She was married to Livinus Newton Foglesong. She and
her husband are buried in Pt. Pleasant as well. Riley and Margarets'
third child was Riley Finney, b. 1869. I believe he married Sarah
L. Estep in 1890 in Jackson County, but have no further information
on him. I do know that Riely Finney and his wife Margaret passed
away prior to 1880, as all four children, in the 1880 census were
listed living with four different families. Charles H. Finney
(b. 1855 D. 1925) was living with John Rottenberry, who I believe
was his uncle. Thomas Finney was listed living with the Thomas
Weirs family, and Annie Lee was living with an unknown family.
Any information would be most helpful. Thanks,

Researching the ALLEN genealogy of a William Allen, born about
1750 in Augusta Co., VA, who married Mary __?__ and moved to Kanawha
Co., VA (now WV) by 1796 and lived in the part of the County which
was cut off to form Mason Co., VA in 1804. It is believed that
this William and Mary Allen had at least three sons, Robert, William,
Jr., who married Lucinda STARKE, and John Allen, who married Ann
(Nancy) __?__, all of whom are found in Mason Co., VA deed records
between 1804-1818. Mary Allen, wife of William Allen, Sr., died
by 1808, and was buried on a 1 acre burial plot on property deeded
from William Allen to William Allen, Jr., in 1808. The sons Robert
Allen and William Allen, Jr., were living in Gallia Co., OH in
1808. He may be the William Allen who became a Jackson Co., OH
resident when the county was form in 1816 and/or the William Allen
whose will is in Jackson Co., OH Will Book A, page 194 (I only
have this reference, I have not seen the will itself). I have
this William Allen traced to a Robert Allen, Sr., (circa 1715-1790)
of Augusta Co., VA. I am trying to trace forward to living descendants
of this line.

I am looking for anyone who is reasearching these surnames in
the Mason County area, particularly in the areas of Lewis, Robinson,
and Waggener townships. I will be happy to share any information
I have. I am particularly interested in the RODGERS/ROGERS line,
and I would like to get in touch with anyone who has information
on John Michael RODGERS (b. May 4 or 11, 1855), who married Elizabeth
Frances STEWART, or his parents, John C. RODGERS and Sarah Ann
BAYBEE. I believe John Michael Rodgers brothers were named William,
George, and Perry RODGERS (they are sometimes found on the census
records as ROGERS), and they all lived in the vicinity of Robinson
District/Township most of their lives. Any help would be appreciated.
