Walter D Holmes, Retired River Boat Capt. Succumbs to Paralytic Stroke.
Mr. Holmes, who was 76 years old, formerly lived in Point Pleasant, W.Va., and was a captain of steamboats plying on the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, and on the Kanawha River for 25 years.
Retiring 10 years ago, he became head of Point Pleasant weather bureau. Three years ago, when he became blind, Mr. Holmes came to this city to reside with his daughter.
Another daughter, Mrs. Edna O'Neill; three sons, Frank, Ira and Walter Holmes, and seven grandchildren also survive him.
The body will be sent to Point Pleasant Thursday morning by Glenn L Myers for services and burial.
