Death Claims Florida Man

Word has been received here of the death of JW "Bill" Gibbs, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., formerly of Point Pleasant, who died Friday evening.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma; two sisters, Zelma Rayburn, Point Pleasant, Osie Lee, Charleston; a daughter, Mary Ann Phillips, Point Pleasant; grandson, David Phillips, Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the McGlotham Mortuary, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.

Death Claims Robert Grinstead

Robert Lawrence Grinstead, Albany, Ohio, died Friday in Athens Hospital, Athens, Ohio.
Born in Mason County, he was the son of the late Richard A. Grinstead and Susan Elizabeth Roush Grinstead.
Surviving are his wife: Genevieve Grimm Grinstead; three sons, Michael, Robert and Richard, all of Albany; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Ella) Roush, Mrs. Helen Knapp, both of New Haven, and Mrs. Alice Miller, Marietta, Ohio; and three brothers, Thomas, Richard and Walter, all of New Haven.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary L. Miller, and a brother, Clay Grinstead.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Agnes Hanshaw Succumbs At 57

Mrs. Agnes S. Hanshaw, 57, 2514 Jefferson Avenue, Point Pleasant, died Thursday at 6:20 pm in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Mrs. Hanshaw attended St. Paul United Methodist Church and was born Sept. 11, 1922 in Cabell County, a daughter of the late Norman and Stella Jenkins Scarberry.
Survivors include her husband, M. Dwyer; a daughter, Judy Erwin, Salisbury, Md.; a son, William M. Hanshaw, Cheshire, Ohio; w sisters, Mrs. Lola Tolliver, Ashton, Mrs. Marie Jeffers, Point Pleasant, Mrs. Colie Huffman, Huntington, and Mrs. Ellen Deal, Glenwood; one brother, Tom Scarberry, Apple Grove; and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 pm Monday at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home with the Rev. Herman Hayes officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Oak Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 pm today and all day Sunday.

Erma Harbour Dies in Ohio

Erma Lena Watson Harbour, 89, Kettering, Ohio, formerly of Mason County, died Thursday at the Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Mrs. Harbour was a member of Mr. Union United Methodist Church at Pliny and was the widow of Robert Vinton Harbour who died Oct. 13, 1955.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Francis Williams, Kettering; a son, Elmer Harbour, Pliny; two sisters, Mrs. Freeda E Troxel and Mrs. Margaret Seaves, both of Illinois; a brother, Charles Watson, Illinois; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Sunday at 11 am at the Mt. Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bobby Woods. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery.
Friends are being received at the Raynes Funeral Home in Buffalo from 6 to 8 pm today.

Mrs. Genevieve Heldreth, 64, Mason, Succumbs

Genevieve M. Heldreth, 64, Mason, died Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1915, in Oakvale, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Mae McCord Looman.
Her husband, William, preceded her in death in 1973.
Surviving are a daughter, Rosemary Goodnite, Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sons, Partrick E. Looman, Chillicothe, Ohio, and Fredrick W. Heldreth, Mason; two sister, Mrs. Imogene Shaw, Mrs. Lucille Starks; a brother, Francis Looman; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 10:30 am at the Foglesong Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Adamsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 9 pm.

Death Claims Ray Hoffman

Raymond Hoffman, 53, 88 Burdette Addition, Point Pleasant, died Friday at 5:10 pm in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
A construction welder for Union Boiler at Charleston, he was a member of the local Boilermakers Union 667. He was born Jan. 7, 1927 in Mason County to the late Everett and Edith Call Hoffman.
His wife, Margaret Ann Luton Hoffman died Jan. 16, 1969.
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Sally Hoffman, Point Pleasant; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bush, Point Pleasant Route 2, and Mrs. Mary June Ballengee, Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and two nephews and one niece.
Services will be conducted Monday at 2 pm at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Whiteman officiating. Burial will be in Kirkland Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

Death Claims 'Dink' Holley

Charles "Dink" Denville Holley, 62, Route 3, Gallipolis, Ohio, died Friday morning in Holzer Medical Center.
Mr. Holley operated his own trucking business since 1960. He was born Feb. 15, 1917 at Glenwood to Vernie Holley Van Dyke of Gallipolis and the late Charles W Holley and was married to Audea Halley on May 20, 1944 in Gallipolis.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Sandra) McGuire, Grove City, Ohio, and Mrs. Edward (Lynn) Gardner, Gallipolis; two sons, Roger and Charles Jr., both of Gallipolis; two brothers, David of Bidwell and James of Gallipolis; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Myers, Westerville; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 pm Sunday at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home in Gallipolis with the Rev. Albert Holley officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Valley Memory Garden.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:30 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm.

Dorsey U. Johnson, 81, Letart, died Thursday in Holzer Medical Center.
Born Sept. 21, 1899, in Letart, he was the son of the late William E. and Hannah E. Gibbs Johnson.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Katie Hart, Letart, and Mrs. Freda Edwards, Middleport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Foglesong Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Nolan officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening, 6 to 9 p.m.

Harry T Kinnaird, 61, Geneva, Fla., formerly of Mason County, died Sunday in a Florida hospital.
He was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, Gallipolis Ferry.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Caudill Kinnaird; children and grandchildren; and several in-laws in Mason County.
Funeral services were held today at the Brissom Funeral Home, Sanford, Fla.

Hazel Knapp Dies Wednesday

Mrs. Hazel Knapp, 72, Leon, Route 1, died Wednesday at 10 am at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Mrs. Knapp was a member of Smith Chapel, Leon Route 1, and was born March 18, 1908 at Leon to the late Alex and Maggie See Smith.
Survivors include her husband, Brycle Knapp; four daughters, Mrs. Maxine Higginbotham and Mrs. Karen Forbis, both of Buffalo, Mrs. June Tucker, Enterprise, Ala., and Mrs. Sharon Knightstep, Columbus, Ohio; five sons, Billy of Pickerington, Ohio, Carl of Point Pleasant, and Roger, Edward and Darrell, all of Leon; one sister, Mrs. Opal McCoy, Leon; one brother, George Smith, Cross Lanes; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm at the Smith Chapel with the Rev. Warren Baker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends are being received at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant after 7 pm today and all day Friday.

Verna Laughlin, New Haven, Dies

Verna M. Laughlin, 70, New Haven, formerly of Ravenswood, died Friday at Holzer Medical Center.
Mrs. Laughlin was the widow of Virgil Laughlin and had worked at the Trinle Blake China Company in Ravenswood for 25 years. She was born March 3, 1910 at Sherman, W.Va., a daughter of the late Pearl and Lillie Staats Tumlin and attended the Christian Brethren Church in Mason.
Survivors include a son, Gerald E. Lehew, New Haven; two sisters, Muriel Alexander, Sherman, and Jean White, Sandyville, W.Va.; a brother, Loman Tumlin, Parkersburg; a half-brother, Earl Buffington, Zanesville, Ohio; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 1:30 pm at the Christian Brethren Church in Mason with the Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Ravenswood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Foglesong Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Former County Resident Dies

Herman LeMaster, 72, Richwood, Ohio, formerly of Mason County, died Saturday in Richwood after a short illness.
Born April 7, 1907, in Mason County, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth Mash LeMaster.
He was a farmer.
Surviving are five daughters, Carolyn LeMaster, Barbara LeMaster, Mrs. Donna Adams, Mrs. Dottie Smith, all of Richwood, and Mrs. Shelby Harris, Kenton, Ohio; two sons, Jack and Larry, both of Marion, Ohio; three stepsons; three sisters, Mrs. Luna Lanier, Southside, Mrs. Anna Lott, Charleston, and Mrs. Norma Clonch, Grove City, Ohio; and 18 grandchildren.
Graveside rites will be conducted Tuesday, 2 pm at the Vier's Cemetery, Southside, with the Rev. Fred McCallister officiating.

Jesse N. Likens 75, Gallipolis Ferry, Succumbs

Jesse Norman Likens, 75, Gallipolis Ferry, died Monday at his home following a long illness.
Born Oct. 28, 1904, in Henderson, he was the son of the late Horace and Cora Simons Likens.
He was a retired carpenter and had worked for 25 years for the former Lutton Construction CO. He was also an employee of the former Marietta Manufacturing Co.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Nell Conkle Likens; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Bonecutter, Gallipolis Ferry, Mrs. Henry (Bertha) Elliott, Point Pleasant; one son, John P. Likens, Gallipolis; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Blain, Henderson, Mrs. Thelma Albenese, Pittsburgh, Pa.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jarrell and Lora Crawford, and four brothers, Jasper, Joseph, John and James.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 1:30 pm, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Finnicum and Rev. Joe Hammack officiating. Burial will follow in the Lone Oak Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 pm today.
