Carl T "Babe" Adkins, 71, of Point Pleasant died Monday,
Aug. 3, 1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
He was born November 13, 1920, in Letart, a son of the late John
T and Ina Mae (Fry) Adkins.
He was a retired head foreman at the former Foote Mineral Plant,
in New Haven, as well as a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian
Church. A football coach at Middleport High School from 1950-1952,
he was a 1940 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and a 1950
graduate of Purdue University. He also was a United States Navy
World War II veteran and an avid athletic and sport fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers,
Clarence and William "Boone" Adkins.
Survivors include his wife, Polly A (Filson) Adkins; one daughter,
Linda Oates of Point Pleasant; two sons, Master Sgt. Gregory S
Adkins, stationed with the United States Army in Germany, and
Bruce Adkins of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; one sister, Virginia Holland
of Point Pleasant; three brothers, Virgil Adkins of Letart, George
and Robert G Adkins, both of Point Pleasant; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, 11 am, at the Crow-Hussell
Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with the Rev. Cheryl Burke officiating.
Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens near Point Pleasant.
Friends may call the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 9 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made
to the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

Florence R Allen, 83, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept. 15,
1992, in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
She was a member of the Fair Haven United Methodist Church of
Kanauga, Ohio, where she served as organist and yearly director
of the vacation Bible school. She was also a member of the Kanauga
WSCS, and was a secretary with the former Gallipolis Clinic.
Born July 14, 1909, in Leon, she was a daughter of the late Jess
and Ella (Montgomery) Russell.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Albert "Dick"
Allen, and two brothers, Roy and Ray William Russell.
Surviving are two sisters, Dessie Holcomb of Point Pleasant, Essie
Lee of Kanauga, Ohio; a brother, Dick Russell of Point Pleasant;
brother-in-law, Fred Holcomb of Point Pleasant; two sisters-in-law,
Esther Russell of Point Pleasant and Irene Russell of Gallipolis.
The funeral will be Friday, 2 pm at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home
with the Rev. Ernest Perkins and Rev. Chester Lemley officiating.
Burial will be in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens.

Charles Keith Anson, 80, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept.
23, 1992, in Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C.
He retired in 1975 from the US Postal Service.
Born Sept. 29, 1911, in Springfield, Ill., he was a son of the
late Charles H Anson and Mary Cramer Anson.
Surviving are his wife, Helen (Bolerjack) Anson; daughter, Marilee
Wiley, Emerald Isle, N.C.; two grandchildren, Karyn Sue Reeves
and Philip Wiley; sister, Ruth McEvers, Harbour City, Ca.; Three
brothers, Herbert, Harold and George Anson, addresses unknown.
The funeral will be Saturday, 2 pm, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral
Home with the Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial will be in
the Kirkland Memorial Gardens.

Kathleen "Katy" Anthony, 85, Middleport, died Sunday,
July 20, 1992 at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, W.Va.
Born Nov. 22, 1906 in Tontogany, she was a daughter of the late
Rev. E A and Adda Rainey Tovey. She was a bookkeeper and a business
partner with her husband in the former Anthony Plumbing Business
in Middleport. She was a an active member of the Middleport First
Baptist Church where she was a high school Sunday school teacher
and past president of the B H Sanborn Society, as well as holding
various other church offices. She was also a past matron of the
Evangeline Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Middleport.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald "PeeWee"
and Dorothy Anthony, Middleport; a granddaughter, Mrs. Steven
(Barbara) White, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a grandson, Joe Anthony,
Middleport; a half-brother, John Tovey, Bradenton, Fla.; and a
brother-in-law, Charles Anthony, Middleport.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband,
Willis in 1988, one half-sister and two half-brothers.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 pm at Fisher Funeral Home in Middleport
with Rev. Clifford Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Gravel
Hill Cemetery in Cheshire.
Friends may call at the funeral home today (Monday) from 6-9 pm
or on Tuesday until the time of the service.

Mantford J Arrowood, 69, of Kenova, W.Va., died Tuesday, August
11, 1992, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
He was born March 30, 1923, in Boyd County (Ky.), a son of the
late Peter and Clora (VanHoose) Arrowood.
He was a retired machinist, formerly working for B & D Tool
Co. and Rockwell International. A member of the American Legion
Post #93 and the VFW Post #8429, he was also a United States Navy
veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Faye Day of Columbus,
OH, Shaleen Mercer of Gallipolis and Cindy Rivera of Mesa, AZ;
one brother, Curtis Arrowood of Glenwood; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, 11 am, at the Rollins
Funeral Home in Kenova, with the Rev. Basil Hudson officiating.
Members of the American Legion Post #93 will conduct graveside
military rites at the Starkey Cemetery in Glenwood.
Friends may call the funeral home Thursday (today) from 6 to 9
pm.

Vivian L Bayes, 82, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, Sept. 2,
1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born Aug. 1, 1910, in Gallipolis Ferry, she was a daughter of
the late Frank Harrison and Clara Frances Chapman Mayes.
Surviving are her husband, Dallas; two sisters, Virginia Neal
of Point Pleasant, Mary Margaret Mayes of Crown City; three brothers,
Lawrence Mayes, Gallipolis, Scottie Mayes, Point Pleasant, and
Eugene Mayes, San Antonio, Tx.
The funeral will be Saturday, 1:30 pm, at the Wilcoxen Funeral
Home with the Rev. Bill Banks officiating. Burial will be in the

Carlos W Benson, 80, of Gallipolis Ferry died Thursday, November
26, 1992, at Holzer Medical Center.
Born May 12, 1912 in Gallipolis Ferry, he was a son of the late
Adam H and Letoa (Sheppard) Benson. He had been employed by the
Mason County school system as a bus operator for 14 years; worked
as a deckhand for Stone's Towing and he attended the Henderson
Tabernacle.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Survivors include his wife, Edna (Harmon) Benson of Gallipolis
Ferry; a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Hope Benson of Gallipolis
Ferry; two brothers, Rev. Ray Benson of Gallipolis and Otis L
Benson of Glenwood; several nieces and nephews.
Service will be Sunday, November 29, at 2 pm at the Wilcoxen Funeral
Home with Rev. Bob Hall officiating. Burial will be in Lone Oak
Rogers Cemetery, Gallipolis Ferry.

Joseph L Boston, son of Wm. Michael and Wanda (Duncan) Boston
of Letart, was stillborn Sunday, Nov. 1, 1992, at the Holzer Medical
Center.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ann Boston, in 1975.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are three sisters, Amy,
Dayna, and Karen Boston, all at home; paternal grandparents, Sam
Boston of Letart and Elizabeth King of Letart; maternal grandparents,
James and Betty Marshall, Buckeye Lake, Ohio, and Lowell Duncan,
Belvidere, Ill.; and paternal great-grandparents, Ruth and Jack
Riley of Mason, Taft and Amy Boston of Letart.

Henry Russell Bowcott, 80, of Gallipolis, died Wednesday, October
14, 1992, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
Born November 24, 1911, he was a son of the late Lewis and Stella
(Williams) Bowcott. He was a farmer.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Delbert (Mary) Legue of
Lakewood, OH, Mrs. Henry (Wanda) Kay of Southside, and Mrs. Roy
(Lorraine) Sprague of Gallipolis; two sons, Russell (Linda) Bowcott
of Gallipolis and Lary Bowcott of Gallipolis; a sister, Sylvia
Matthews of Nitro; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, October 17, at the
Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with John Wood minister
officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Union Cemetery at
Pliny.

Opal Marie (Glass) Brennan, 69, of Point Pleasant, died Sunday,
Oct. 25, 1992, in Americare Nursing Home, Dunbar, after a long
illness.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints, Sissonville.
Surviving are six daughters, Saundra Thompson of Charleston, Patricia
Butto of Greenville, S.C., Kathleen Richards of Columbus, Ohio,
Lana Estep of Richmond, Ky., Deborah Painter of Gallatin, Tenn.,
Teresa Nibert of Point Pleasant; father, Carl Glass of Welch;
two sisters, Elsie Surface of Bluefield, Nellie Beverly of Winston-Salem,
N.C.; brother, Luther Glass of Cleveland; and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday, 11 am, at the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop David L Atkinson officiating.

Ruth Stover Bright, 86, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Oak Hill,
Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
She was a member of the Rodney Pike Church of God in Rodney, Ohio.
Born June 14, 1906, in Loggerhead, W.Va. (Mason County), she was
a daughter of the late Ira and Pearl (Rimmey) Stover. In addition
to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband,
Ralph S Bright in 1984, and a daughter, Zenoba Grace Bright.
Surviving are five daughters, Katrinda Bennett of Rio Grande,
Ohio, Savannah Duncan of Point Pleasant, Winona Roberts of Pickerington,
Ohio, Joan Arrowood of Oak Hill, Ohio, Connie Holley, Gallipolis;
a sister, Ellen Stover of Point Pleasant; 16 grandchildren, 34
great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday, 2 pm at the Rodney Pike Church of
God with the Rev. Ricky L Lawwill officiating. Burial will be
in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Apple Grove.

Nov. 18, 1992, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant.
He was born March 26, 1907, in Point Pleasant, son of the late
Christopher and Netty Mae (Roush) Burns.
He was a retired, self-employed painter and a member of the Chapel
Hill Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Halfhill, who he married Oct.
19, 1932; two brothers, Walter Burns of Columbus, Ohio, and Marcus
Burns of Ashtabula, Ohio; three sisters, Leona Taylor of Gallipolis,
Lucille Perry and Marjorie Long, both of Albany; and several nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Services will be held 1 pm Saturday at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home,
Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, with the Rev. John Jeffrey officiating.

Ralph E Burris, 72, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, November
11, 1992, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
He was born April 1, 1920, in Hogsett, a son of the late Bill
and Mary (Baird) Burris.
A retired tool crib employee of Kaiser Aluminum Corporation in
Ravenswood, he attended the Church of Christ in Christian Union
in Gallipolis. He was a United States Army veteran of World War
II, where he received several medals including a Purple Heart
and a Bronze Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife,
Ella (Cobb) Burris, in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mike Roush
of Henderson; one sister, Dessie Henry of London, OH; and two
grandchildren, Stephen and Jared Burris.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 11 am, at the Crow-Hussell
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leland Allman and the Rev. Marlin
Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Beale Chapel Cemetery.

James Sherman Butrick, 50, of Gallipolis Ferry, died Thursday,
October 29, 1992.
He was born February 20, 1942, in Boone County, a son of Eddie
Bradley White of Comfort, W.Va., and the late Holbert Butrick.
He was a member of the College Hill Church and was also a former
pastor of the Mount Calvary Church in Gallipolis Ferry. He was
an employee and driver for City Ice & Fuel for 15 years.
In addition to his mother, other survivors include his wife Phyllis
Jones Butrick; one daughter, Alice Norris; six sons, Jimmy, Paul,
Ronnie, Kevin, Allen and James; one sister, Sylvia Pardee; three
brothers, Ralph, Woodrow and Herbert; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 1:30 pm, at the Wilcoxen
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial

She was a homemaker.
She was born Oct. 20, 1905 in Henderson, daughter of the late
Charles Walker and Iva Henry Walker Lee.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Phyllis) Rowland
of Gallipolis; two sons, Odell Criner of Columbus, and Ervin Criner
of Hillard; two brothers, Lee Walker of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va.,
and Forrest Lee of Pomeroy; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Criner, on Jan.
1, 1991; three infant children; three sisters; and one brother.
Graveside services will be held 2 pm Sunday at Pine Street Cemetery,
with the Rev. Leland Allman and the Rev. Everett Delaney officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Street Cemetery.
