Floyd Clayton Muncy, 54, of Gallipolis Ferry, died Monday, Sept.
14, 1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born May 21, 1938, in Hatfield, Ky., he was a son of Ruby Oney
Burchett of Rio Grande, Ohio, and the late Fred Muncy.
He was also preceded in death by a son Clayton Allan Muncy, who
died in 1973, and foster father, Mack Runion.
A farmer, he was a 36-year member of the West Virginia National
Guard in the combined support maintenance shop, where he served
as maintenance supervisor. He was in Troop Command Detachment
2.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Naomi (Phillip)
Muncy; foster mother, Misie Runion, Gallipolis Ferry; eight sisters,
Ruth Leftwich, Pauline Dean, and Anna Lois Pope, all of Edgewater,
Fla., Helen Colgin, Columbus, Lorie Bush of Sunbury, Ohio,
Christine Jewell and Aileen Staten of Loving, Ky.; two half sisters,
Connie (Runion) Varney of Charlotte, N.C., Connie (Burchett) Palmer
of Cheshire, Ohio; seven brothers, Carl Muncy of Grove City, Ohio,
Paul Muncy of Pickerington, Ohio, Chester and Gracen Muncy of
Florida, Merle Muncy of Loving, Ky., David Muncy of Inez, Ky.,
Eugene Muncy of Columbus; and a grandson, Jason Whittington.
The funeral will be Wednesday, 1:30 pm, at the Wilcoxen Funeral
Home with the Elder Chester Cochran officiating. Burial will be
in the Lewis Cemetery, Gallipolis Ferry.

Virginia Fern Dunham Nichols, 73, of Leon, died Saturday, August
29, 1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital following a long illness.
Born December 13, 1918, in Leon, she was the daughter of the late
Alexander "Lackey" Crow Dunham and Lucy Mae Kessell
Dunham. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, two
brothers, one stepbrother and three stepsisters.
She was a member of the Leon Baptist Church and Pythian Sisters.
Surviving are her husband, Delbert E.; daughter, Mrs. Sandra Browning,
Crosslanes; three sons and daughters-on-law, Paul W. And Jennifer
Nichols of Pt. Pleasant, Curtis and Connie Nichols of Leon, Gary
E. And Sigrid Nichols of Karlsruhe, Germany; a sister in law,
Gladys Nichols Dunham, Leon; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home
with the Rev. Johnnie Hayman officiating. Burial will be in the
Pine Grove Cemetery, Leon.

Fay Dorcas Bess Pancake, 70, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday,
Oct. 7, 1992, in St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
She was a member of the Sand Hill Road Church of Christ, and was
an employee of the Sylvania Electric Company in Point Pleasant.
Born March 17, 1922, in Hurricane, she was a daughter of the late
Ezra B and Lucy (Gilfillen) Bess.
Surviving are her husband, Wandell M Pancake; two sons, Roger
Allen Pancake of Baltimore, Md. And Kent Kelly Pancake of Point
Pleasant; two brothers, Ray Bess of Ringold, La. And Larry Bess
of Gretna, La.; six sisters, Vedious Wolford, Frances Hudson,
and Mona Corley, all of Shreveport, La., Sandra Walker of Baton
Rouge, La., Doris McDaniel of Milton, Fla. and Odra Erskine of
Ft. Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held Saturday, 11 am, at the Crow-Hussell
Funeral Home with Evangelist Charles R Boston officiating. Burial
will be in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.

Landis W Pearson, 76, of Henderson, died Saturday, September 19,
1992, at his residence.
He was born January 6, 1916, in Gallipolis Ferry, a son of the
late Oden W Pearson and Esther Austin Pearson.
A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member
of the Henderson Church of Christ as well as a former river pilot
of Stone Towing Company. He also had worked as a deckhand with
O F Shearer and retired as a captain from White Brothers Towing.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Faye Pearson; two brothers,
Alfred L Pearson and Austin Pearson, both of Henderson; and one
grandchild, Justin Childers.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Rogers Pearson; one daughter,
Mr. Doug (Joan) Childers of Point Pleasant; two sons, Monty Pearson
and Stephen Pearson, both of Henderson; seven sisters, Mrs. George
(Helen) Mayes of Henderson, Mrs. Roy (Lydia) Tomlinson of Ghent,
Ky., Mrs. Virgil (Margaret) Noffsinger of Middlebourne, W.Va.,
Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Clark of Point Pleasant, Mrs. Paul (Bonnie)
Harrison of Gallipolis, Mrs. Ralph (Christobel) Ferrell of Richmondale,
OH, and Mrs. John (Lottie) Roush of Gallipolis; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, 10:30 am, at the Crow-Hussell
Funeral Home with L H (Sam) Gwin officiating. Burial will follow
at Kirkland Memorial Gardens.

Olive Marie Pierson, 72, of Rt. 2, Leon, died Monday, Sept 14,
1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
She attended the Gospel Tabernacle of Chestnut Ridge, Leon.
Born March 16, 1920, in Leon, she was a daughter of the late Floyd
Hart and Ida Mae (Donohue) Hart. She was also preceded in death
by her husband, Roy J Pierson, who died March 22, 1992, a brother,
Wallie W Hart, and sister, Famous G Hart.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Newsome and Debbie Halstead,
both of Leon; four sons, Calvin and Randall Pierson, both of Leon,
Roy Ivan and Roy J Pierson, Jr., both of Gallipolis; five sisters,
Lillian Pearson, Doris Crump, Geraldine Blessing, all of Leon,
Catherine Deweese of Columbus, Ohio, and Lizzie M Beagle of Point

and six grandchildren.

Donald Lee "Babe" Phillips, 55, of Huntington, died
Monday, Oct. 12, 1992 in St. Mary's Hospital.
Born Sept. 11, 1937, in Huntington, he was a son of the late Ralph
L and Georgeanna Solinger Phillips. He was also preceded in death
by a brother, Ralph Eugene Phillips, and a grandchild, Shane Owens.
He was a florist.
Surviving are his wife, Yvonna "Jean" Phillips; son,
Shawn Phillips of Huntington; two daughters and a son-in-law,
Margaret and Daniel Matzdroff, Sr., and Shashawnee Phillips, all
of Huntington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Barbara
Phillips, Columbus, Ga., Ronald Lee and Patty Phillips, Huntington;
sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Sammuel Reed, Barberton,
Ohio; two grandchildren, a step grandchild, several nieces and
nephews, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Lois

Ralph Reed Pratt, 79, Middleport, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1992,
at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis following an extended illness.
Born in Middleport on Feb. 10, 1913, he was a son of the late
Lee H and Neva Reed Pratt. He was a retired hotel operator. He
was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pomeroy, the West
Lafayette Masonic Lodge No. 602, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite
of Long Island, N.Y., Aladdin Temple of Columbus, the Gallipolis
PBOE Lodge No. 107, the American Legion Post No 140 of New Haven,
W.Va., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9926 of Mason, W.Va.,
and he was honorably discharged from the US Army and US Meritime
Service.
Mr. Pratt is survived by wife, Emalene Pratt, Middleport; a daughter
and son-in-law, Redina and Larry G Dailey, Athens; a son and daughter-in-law,
Crenson R and Laura Pratt, Athens; three granddaughters, Rebecca
Autumn Dailey and Elizabeth Marie Dailey, both of Athens, Chelsie
Ann Pratt, Vienna, W.Va.; a grandson, Nicholas Reed Pratt, Athens;
a niece, Ruth Powers, Middleport; and several other nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers,
Delno and Edgar Pratt, and a sister, June Roush. Memorial services
will be held Sunday at 1 pm at Fisher Funeral Home in Middleport
with Rev. William Miiddleswarth officiating. Burial will be in
Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday
from 7-9 pm.

Russell W Putney, 74, of Apple Grove, died Friday, October 16,
1992, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born September 28, 1918 in Pliny, he was a son of the late Richard
and Nora (Coleman) Putney. He was a former employee of Marietta
Manufacturing Company and OH-KAN Harbor. He had owned and operated
the Putney Farm in Pliny.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann; a son,
Carl; a granddaughter, Sandy Putney; three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche (McCarty) Putney of Apple
Grove; a daughter and son-in-law, Emma Lou and Howard Roberts
of Wheeling; a son and daughter-in-law, Delbert and Jerri Putney
of Gallipolis Ferry; three sisters, Juanita Knapp and Gladys Honaker,
both of Ohio, and Charlotte Bateman of Gallipolis Ferry; a brother,
Lester "Bud" Putney of Gallipolis Ferry; eight grandchildren;
four step grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be Tuesday, October 20, at 2 pm at the Wilcoxen Funeral
Home with Rev. Eddie Kinnard and Rev. Marlin Campbell officiating.
Burial will be at Beale Chapel Cemetery in Apple Grove.

Allene Raike, 82, of Gallipolis Ferry, died Friday, August 14,
1992, at Holzer Medical Center.
Born January 7, 1909 in Gallipolis, she was a daughter of the
late Orland and Carrie Wolfe. She was a homemaker and a member
of Faith Gospel Church, Gallipolis Ferry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Raike and five
brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James (Betty) Baldwin of
Gallipolis and Mrs. Dale (Kathleen) Rulen of Mr. Juliet, TN; two
sons, Douglas Raike Jr. of Cheshire, OH and Richard Raike of Gallipolis
Ferry; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was retired from the Malleable Iron Co. after 37 years of service.

Joseph Allan "Joey" Rawson,
22, of Southside, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1992, following an auto
accident in Institute, W.Va.
Born April 21, 1970, in Gallipolis, he was a son of George Rawson
and Ann Newman Rawson.
Employed as a furnace operator at American Alloys, he was a member
of Union local 5171. A 1988 graduate of Point Pleasant High School,
he played football and was an avid sportsman and hunter.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Sandy Rawson
and Tiffany Rawson, both of Southside; maternal grandmother, Mrs.
Enna Newman of Point Pleasant; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an uncle, Ralph Rawson, grandparents,
Joseph "Shorty" and Evelyn Rawson, Edward Newman, and
great-grandparents, Gordon and Dicie Hughes.

Michael D Riffle, 47, of Rt. 2, Letart, died Monday, Sept. 14,
1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital following a short illness.
Born Dec. 12, 1944, in Rushville, Wash., he was a son of Doris
(Nahrstedt) Riffle of Letart, and the late James Clinton Riffle.
He was a traffic manager for Blackwell North American of Turnersville,
N.J., and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served
as a paratrooper.
Surviving are his wife, Judith (Harbeson) Riffle of Letart; daughter,
Angel (Riffle) Kraus, Vancouver, Wash.; stepdaughter, Wendy Sachs,
Williamstown, N.J.; two stepsons, Dean Sockwell of Williamstown,
N.J. and Wayne Sockwell, at home; six step grandchildren, and
several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Friday, 1:30 pm, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home

Ida Mae Genevieve Roush, 82, of Letart, died Thursday, September
10, 1992, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born August 16, 1919 in Letart, she was a daughter of the late
William and Genora (Adkins) Ball. She was a homemaker and a member
of the Letart United Methodist Church where she served as secretary
for many years.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Clayton Roush;
a daughter, Ruth Steele; three infant children; three brothers
and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Ernest (Ruby)
Grimm of Letart and Mrs. Harry (June) Brooks of Letart; a special
friend, Harry Klingensmith; 11 grandchildren and five step great-great
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be Sunday, September 13, at 2 pm at the Letart United
Methodist Church with Rev. Rex Young officiating. Burial will
be in Letart Evergreen Cemetery.

Co-owner of Riverside Golf Course, Mary Roush, succumbs
Mary Mae Roush, co-owner and manager
of Riverside Golf Course in Mason, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1992,
in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, after a brief illness.
Roush suffered a stroke Sunday, Aug. 23, which resulted from a
rare disorder, according to a family member.
An avid golf player and winner of many state golf tournaments,
Roush was 51 years old. She had placed 11th in the championship
flight of the West Virginia Women's Amateur golf tournament as
recently as July.
She was also active in many church and community projects, and
was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of New Haven, and
the Point Pleasant Moose Lodge Auxiliary Chapter 0594.
A licensed beautician, she was born Dec. 3, 1940, in Letart, the
daughter of the late Howard W Roush and M Garnet (Hurlow) Roush.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Belva W Lewis.
Surviving are her husband, Gary O Roush; two sons, Gary Tyrone
"Ty" and Mitchell Grant "Mitch" Roush, both
of Mason; two sisters, Mrs. George (Ruth D) Holman, Syracuse,
Ohio, Mrs. Richard (Susannah J) Lewis, Letart; and two grandchildren,
Trenton Tyrone and Carrie Elizabeth Roush.
The funeral will be Sunday, 2 pm at the Foglesong Funeral Home
with the Rev. Patricia Bonds-Krug and Rev. Richard Bonds-Krug
officiating. Burial will be in the Graham Cemetery.

Willard Roush, 74, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept. 22,
1992, in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
He was a retired employee of the General Tire and Rubber Co. in
Akron, Ohio, and a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during
World War II. He was also a member of the American Legion Post
23 of Point Pleasant.
Born Jan. 4, 1918, in Letart, he was a son of the late Roy H and
Ella (Lewis) Roush. He was also preceded in death by four brothers
and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Olive (Ferguson) Roush; two sisters, Bernice
Roush, Point Pleasant and Velma Neigler, Canton, Ohio.
The funeral will be Friday, 11 am, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral
Home with the Rev. Louis Hussell officiating. Burial will be in
Kirkland Memorial Gardens.
