Barnett, Erma Pearl

Erma Pearl Barnett, 86, of Point Pleasant, died Monday, June 10, 1996, at Pinecrest Care Center, Gallipolis, following a long illness.
She retired from the Mason County Board of Education with 44 years of service, including one year in Okinawa. She was a graduate of Marshall University, a member of the National Educator's Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Heights United Methodist Church, the Friendship Circle Sunday School Class, Mason County Senior Citizens, Mason County Teacher's Association, Creston Ladies Aid Society, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Teachers Honorary Group.
Born February 6, 1910 in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter of the late John T and Sadie (Jones) Barnett. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Guy Barnett, and two sisters, Daisy Dean Quarnstrom and Theo Mildred Rowan.
She is survived by three sisters, Clytice M McBride of Indianapolis, IN, E Faith Gorrell of Dayton, Ohio and Ada Strough of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, June 15, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Rev Louis A Hussell officiating. Graveside rites and burial will follow in the Creston Cemetery, Leon.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 7-9 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the activity department at Pinecrest Care Center or to a charity of choice.

Linda Mae Beaver, 53 Gallipolis, Ohio, died Tuesday Jan.9, 1996 at her residence. Born Jan.11, 1942 in Mason County, she was the daughter of Guy and Gertrude (Luckeydoo) Pullins, she was retired from the Pinecrest Nursing Center as a Certified Nurse's Assistant. Surviving are her husband James Paul Beaver; two daughters, Linda Marie Miller and Diane Renee Beaver, one son James Matthew Beaver; one grandson; a sister Beatrice Biars; two brothers Arthur and James Pullins. Service was held Jan.11, 1996 at the Church of Christ in Christian Union with Rev. Dave Hopkins Burial was at Eckard Chapel Cemetery, Mason County (Waugh -Halleywood Funeral Home)

Florence Wingrove Casto, 68, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, July 10, 1996, at Akron General Hospital, Akron, Ohio following a short illness.
Born January 14, 1928 in Long Branch, WV, she was a daughter of the late Dewey and Tena (Lively) Wingrove. She was a homemaker and a member of the Anne Bailey Extension Homemakers.
In addition to her parents, whe was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Casto; and a sister, Margaret Taylor.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Pam Casto of Point Pleasant; a grandson; and four sisters, Ann Carroll of O'Cala, FL, Beaulah Akers of Beckley, Priscilla Dangerfield of Akron, and Gail Sexton of Akron.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Rev. Herman Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Letart.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 7 9 p.m.

Chase, Kenneth Monroe

Kenneth Monroe Chase, 86, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, died Tuesday morning February 20,1996 at Pleasant Valley Hospital. Born March 21, 1909 in Jackson County W.Va. He was a son of the late William H. Chase and Canna Landis. He was also preceded in death by a sister Velma Mueller; a half sister Pearl Ruckman; two half brothers Boyd and Ben Chase. He was the owner of the former Electric Home Appliance in Point Pleasant, which was a GE Dealership; a plumber and steamfitter, he was a member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Local Union 521; and had worked in commercial refrigeration and repair. He was a 1927 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and attended Marshall College. He was Past Master of Minturn Lodge 19;Past High Priest of Point Pleasant Chapter 7; past commander of Franklin Commandery 17; Past District deputy Grand Master 4th Masonic District of West Virginia; a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Member; Member of the Point Pleasant Minturn Lodge 19,AF and AM Deputy Lecturer Royal Arch Mason; Past Chairman of the Masonic Temple Association Building Committee from 1948 to 1991; York Cross of Honor 55; past Treasure of chapter 7; Past Treasure of Commandery 17; Member of Beni Kedem Shine; Member of Shrine Crippled Children Foundation; a Masonic Temple Association trustee Emeritus; Personal representative to the Grand High Priest of Royal Arch Mason of West Virginia; Honorary and Anointed Exalted High Priest of R.A.M. at Clarksburg, WV ; lifetime member of Super Excellent Master Everett Council of Ashland KY; life member of Knight Templar Eye Foundation; member of Height United Methodist Church; and I.O.O.F. lodge 33 and in 1956 he served as one of the first trustees for Pleasant Valley Hospital. He is survived by his wife Helen L. Pullin Chase; a son and daughter-in-law, William O. and Linda Chase of Richmond, Virginia; three grandchildren. William Allen Chase, Julie Ann Waller, and John Richard Chase; nine great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Louis Mueller II of Altamonte Springs Florida, and Richard Chase of Charlotte NC. Funeral will be held at 2 pm Friday Feb. 23, 1996 at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, in point Pleasant with Rev. Ben Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Suncrest Cemetery. Masonic Graveside Rites will be conducted by Minturn Lodge 19 AF and AM of Point Pleasant. Thursday Feb. 22,1996 at 6:30PM the Scottish Rites Service will be Conducted.

Merrill C Clark, 90, of Longboat Key, FL, died Friday, December 29, 1995, in Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL.
He was a Protestant and member of the Palma Sola Baptist Church. A graduate of West Virginia University, he worked for Appalachian Power Company as an electrical engineer for 32 years with 23 of those years in Point Pleasant. Clark and his wife, Mildred, moved to Longboat Key, FL in 1990 after residing in Point Pleasant for 41 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Hall Clark and Alonzo Clark; and a brother, Milford.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two daughters, Sylvia Collins of Longboat Key and Eloise Hayes of Paden City; a son, Arthur C Clark of Alexander, LA; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Irene Newlon, 87, of Point Pleasant died Saturday, October 26, 1996, at Pleasant Valley Hospital following a brief illness.
Born December 19, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Kate (Varner) Schneider. She was a member of the Heights United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant, where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday school class and the Heights United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, G Russell Newlon Jr.; and a brother, Clarence "Pete" Schneider.
She is survived by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Luella and Richard Fick Sr. of Chseter, Ohio; two nephews, Robert Schneider of Boulder, CO and Thomas Schneider of California; a niece, Karen Smith of Chester, Ohio; and two great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, October 29, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Rev. Ben Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Suncrest Cemetery, Point Pleasant.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Helen Elizabeth Tillis, 97, of Point Pleasant died Thursday, March 21, 1996, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Point Pleasant.
Born December 15, 1898 in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter of the late Robert A and Lillian (Fowler) Knapp. She was a homemaker and member of Heights United Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, George W Tillis; a grandson, Roger "Bo" Meadows; and two sisters, Emily M Knapp and Reba Moore.
Survivors include two daughters, Bernice Krebs of Point Pleasant and Mrs Kathern Meadows of Point Pleasant; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert D and Vivian Tillis of Point Pleasant; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside rites will be Monday, March 25, at 11 am at the Kirkland Memorial Gardens with Rev Eldon Shingleton officiating. Burial will follow.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.
