POINT PLEASANT - Woodrow G. Mace, 86, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Point Pleasant.
Born March 15, 1915 in the Beulah Hill Community of Wirt County, near Elizabeth, he was a son of the late Levi and Nellie (Nichols) Mace.
He was a member of the Beulah Humble Presbyterian Church in Wirt County, attended Krebs Chapel and St. Paul's churches in Point Pleasant, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a lifetime member of the Mason County Fair Board and the West Virginia State Farm Museum.
He was retired from Sire Power as an artificial inseminator for 33 years, serving in the Mason County farming community and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite (Caltrider) Mace of Point Pleasant; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and John Wilson of Williamstown; two sons and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Rita Mace and Larry Mace, all of Point Pleasant; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Harry Matheny of Elizabeth, and Barcelena and Clark Townsend of Parkersburg; three grandchildren, Denetta (Adams and Jake Dennis of Williamstown, Scott Adams of Parkersburg, and Nicholas Mace of Point Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at noon on Thursday, August 9, 2001, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with the Rev. Dr. Ben Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens, Point Pleasant.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, August 8, 2001, from 7-9 p.m.

ASHTON - Ked Marcum Sr., 84, of Ashton, went to be with the Lord at his home on Sunday, September 2, 2001.
He was born February 2, 1917 in Mingo County, West Virginia, a son of the late Joe and Martha Jane (Spulding) Marcum. He was a member of Harmony Seprate Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida, and attended Barton Chapel Church of Apple Grove.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason Order of Masonic Temple of Wayne County. He was a former owner of Marcum Lumber Co. of Ashton, a deputy sheriff of Wayne County, and a coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Wade Henry Marcum; brothers, Johnny Marcum and Riley Marcum; and sisters, Hilda Spaulding, Launa Muncy, Verna Workman, Wilda Workman, Rose Spaulding and Genevia Evans.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hazel Brewer Marcum of Ashton; sons and daughters-in-law, Ked Jr. and Fay Marcum of Glenwood, Thomas Lee and Josephine Marcum of Pickerington, Ohio, and Wade Henry and Edith Marcum of Dunlow, West Virginia; daughters and son-in-law, Grethel Harris of Madisonville, Kentucky, Jewell M. Marcum of Jacksonville, Florida, and Brenda Fisher Andrews and Richard of Cattlesburg, Kentucky; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and close friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at Deal Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with the Rev. Tommy Legg and the Rev. Bob Withers officiating. Burial will be in the Marcum Family Cemetery on Tick Ridge in Wayne County.
Masonic graveside service will be conducted by Wayne County Lodge.

GALLIPOLIS - Earl Eugene "Gene" Martin, 63, of Gallipolis died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at his residence. Born Nov. 16, 1937 in Hogsett, he was a son of the late Ernie and Gladys Flint Martin. He was a retired employee of Federal Mogul Corp., was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Garden of My Heart Tabernacle.
Survivors include his wife, Ruthann Campbell Martin of Gallipolis; two brothers, Wayne Martin of Gallipolis Ferry and Roy Martin of Gallipolis Ferry; and two sisters, Bonnie Saxon of Bidwell and Evelyn Wright of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, Gallipolis, with Pastor Ted Glassburn officiating. Burial will follow in Centenary Cemetery. Military flag presentation will be conducted by Gallia County veterans organizations.

She was born October 27, 1959 in Leon, WV, a daughter of Dale D. "Buck" Shinn and the late, Carol Shinn.

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Samuel Berkley McCausland, 52, of Cincinnati, formerly of Mason County, W.Va., died Mar. 24, 2001, in Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati, following an extended illness.
Born Dec. 21, 1948, he was a son of George B. and the late Marjorie E. McCausland. He was also preceded in death by an infant older brother.
He was a 1967 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and a graduate of the Central Academy of Commercial Art in Cincinnati. He taught commercial art for several years and worked as a professional artist and a fine artist. He was a member of Ridge Road Baptist Church, Cincinnati.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Marnie McCausland; sister, Georgina McDermitt; brother, Jim McCausland of Pliny, W.Va.; several aunts, uncles and nieces.
Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 27, at the Vorhis Funeral Home, Cincinnati.

AKRON, Ohio - William T McCoy, 76, of Akron died Wednesday, August 29, 2001.
A native of Point Pleasant, W.Va., he graduated form Point Pleasant High School and moved to Akron in 1945. He was a US Army World War II veteran and retired from Ohio Brass after 39 years of service. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Lillian McCoy; and three brothers, Paul, Robert and Ruben Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughters, Deborah Swain of North Canton and Pamela (David) Rockich of Jackson Township; four grandchildren; a brother, James (Mary) McCoy of Barberton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. McComb.

She was born September 9, 1947, in Logan County, daughter of Jack and Madeleine (Spurlock) McNeely.
She was a 15-year employee of the Mason County Board of Education as an English teacher, a graduate of Marshall University, a U.N. member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star No. 731 in Point Pleasant, and was a member of the Democrat Women's Association.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Jose McNeely.
Surviving in addition the her parents are her fiance, Tom Christner of Point Pleasant; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Debra McNeely of Point Pleasant; a niece, Alexandra Young; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Alice Grinstead Miller, 85, New Haven, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.
Born Sept. 9, 1916, daughter of the late Richard and Susan Elizabeth Grinstead, she was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 140.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Miller; seven brothers, Harry, Clay, Bryan, Thomas, Richard, Walter, and Robert Grinstead; and five sisters, Iva Fry, Mary Aumiller, Sarah Grinstead, Helen Knapp and Ella Roush.
She has more than 400 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

POINT PLEASANT - Eva L. Miller, 93, of Point Pleasant died Jan. 20, 2001, in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio.
She was a homemaker and member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 75, Point Pleasant, Point Pleasant Woman's Club, Colonial Ladies of America and Anne Bailey's Homemaker Club.

POINT PLEASANT - Naomi Meriam Montcastle, 87, Point Pleasant, died Sunday, May 13, 2001 in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born June 26, 1913 in Mason County, she was a daughter of the late Harry A. and Hattie (Flowers) Jeffers. She was a homemaker, and a member of AARP, Beale Chapel United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Montcastle; a grandson, Todd Winkler; a brother, Harold Jeffers; and sisters, Virgie Cobb and Evelyn Jeffers.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald D. and Alice Montcastle of Milton; daughters and son-in-law, Ruth Ann Deal of Point Pleasant, Sandra Winkler of Apple Grove, and Dorris and Arnold Dutton of Mentor, Ohio; sisters, Mary Davis of Charleston, and Linda Jeffers of Euclid, Ohio; and nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

GALLIPOLIS - Mifflin Dale Moore, 82, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
He was born on March 6, 1919 in Gallia County, son of the late Hobart L. Moore, who passed away in 1954, and the late Wilma C. Moore, who passed away in 1967.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Victor L. Moore, who passed away in 1930, and a brother-in-law, Dilmon Sheets.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1940 to 1946. After his Navy service, he returned to Gallipolis and worked for Buckeye Rural Electric before moving to Circleville in 1950.
He then worked for Harden Chevrolet in Circleville, where he retired. After retirement, he enjoyed farming, and then moved back to Gallia County, where he was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Pauline Sheets Moore of Gallipolis, whom he married August 17, 1943 in Northup; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Leslie and Helen Sheets of Crown City, and Wayne and Florence Sheets of Findlay.
Services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2001 at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Warner officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, June 7, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Gallia County veterans organization will conduct a military flag presentation at the cemetery.

Born March 7, 1928 in Cabell County, WV, daughter of the late Dennis Roush and Vada Mae Edwards Roush, she was a homemaker and a member of the Old Town Board Baptist Church in Letart.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Roush; and sister, Mary Roush.
Surviving are her husband, Elmer Newberry; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Karen Newberry of Vinton, OH, Michael and Carol Newberry of Letart, and Tim and Lee Newberry of Point Pleasant; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Joy Roush of Letart, and Dennis Jr. and Irene Roush of Point Pleasant; a sister, Helen Lambert of Savannah, GA; and six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

POMEROY - Robert "Mike" Newell, 55, Pomeroy, died on Monday, May 21, 2001 at his home.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1945 in Clifton, W.Va., son of the late Clarence O. and Alva Stewart Newell. He was a mechanic for RSO/AEP. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict, and was a member of the Stewart-Johnson Post 9926, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Mason, W.Va., the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3692 of Pomeroy, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 53.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Rebecca J. Rothgeb Newell, Pomeroy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Stacy L. and Britt Dodson of Middleport; a stepson, Troy Yankuns of Pomeroy; three granddaughters: Megan Tripp, Amber Tripp and Haley Tripp; a stepgrandson, Brandon Dodson; a nephew and niece, Jeff Newell and Leann Spaulding; a sister, Wilma Scarberry of Vinton; a brother, Don Newell of Clifton, W.Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Martha Newell of Mason; and several other nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sharon "Jane" Newell and Nina Dailey; and his brother, Clarence "Buck" Newell.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Fogelsong Funeral Home in Mason, W.Va., with Al Hartson officiating. Burial will follow at Graham Cemetery in New Haven.

MASON - Eugene H. Newland, 85, of Mason, died Saturday (October 13, 2001) at St. Angelas Nursing Care in Columbus, Ohio.
Born January 17, 1916, in Bashan, Ohio, the son of the late Simon Peter Newland and Flo Dixie (Tucker) Newland, he was retired from Foote Mineral Corp. and was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Della Ann (Oro) Newland; and brothers, Kenneth and Howard Newland.
He is survived by daughter, Renilda Ann Hamilton of Charleston, S.C.; daughter and son-in-laws Patty and James Carrol of Marietta, Ga., and Harvietta and Ronald Gribble of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Foglesong-Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilmer Bud Richmond officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion, Smith-Capehart Post 140, New Haven and VFW, Stewart-Johnson Post 9926, Mason.

Mrs.Ogle was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Ogle, and her son, Dan Ogle.

Born March 20, 1909, in Salt Rock, W.Va., daughter of the late Elmer and June McComas Gill, she was a retired practical nurse at Lakin State Hospital, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Point Pleasant.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Paugh.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph (Kay) Paugh of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va., and Jack (Emma Jane) Paugh of Bowling Green, Fla.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Dewey Gill of Salt Rock.

She was a 50-year member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Dewey Perry; her parents, Arthur and Lina Rogers Sayre; sisters, Ethel Wandling, Helen Earles, Josephine Ruby, Mary and Martha Sayre; brothers, Ray, Hensford, Arthur and Kelly Sayre.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy Sue and Dewey Cavender of St. Albans, W.Va.; two brothers, Boyd, and his wife Lola Sayre, of Charleston, and Lee, and his wife Ruth Sayre, of Michigan; grandsons, John Paul and Nathan Daniel, both at home; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. Cyril Johnston and Dr. John Harlan officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Born January 8, 1927, in Alliance, Ohio, he was a son of the late Samuel Lewis and Mabel Clara (Donahue) Pickens. She(sic) was a plant operator for Dravo Sand and Gravel Corp., commander of D.A.V. Chapter 53 of Cheshire, Ohio, member of Smith-Capehart American Legion Post 140, Stewart-Johnson VFW Post 9926, Point Pleasant Moose Lodge 731, 40/8 Club and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise (Chaney) Pickens; son, Pvt. William L. Pickens; brother, Donald Pickens; and granddaughter, Mickie Pickens.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Charles Anderson of Mason; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Donna Pickens of Warsaw, Ind., and James Pickens of Pomeroy, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Junior Smith of Columbus, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, Emmett and Sue Pickens and Wesley and Louise Pickens, all of Toledo, Ohio, Shelby and Ruby Pickens of Racine, Ohio and Eber and Mary Pickens of Syracuse, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and had been a bookkeeper for her husband's electrical business. She was also a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Point Pleasant and a member of the Gideon's Ladies Auxiliary.
Born Sept. 11, 1921, in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter of the late Virgil W and Edna (Cheesebrew) Lutton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Eugene Pickens, and sister, Margaret Hoffman.

Roy Gene Pullin, 50, of Amherst, died Sunday at New life hospice center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a long illness. Mr. Pullin was born at Point Pleasant, West Virginia July 1, 1950. But he lived most of his life in Amherst. He attended Marion L, Steele High School, a veteran of the Marine Corps; he served in combat duty in Viet Nam from 1968 to 1970. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Viet-Nam Service medal, Viet-Namese Campaign Medal, the Viet-Namese Cross of Gallantry, the Combat action Medal. For 20 years he had worked as a machine operator and a group leader at U S Steel's Lorain Works. In 2000, he retired as a sales associate from Lowe's Home Improvement Store. He was a member of Hickory Tree Grange, Survivors include daughters Tammy Giacobbe of Lorain and Kristy Wells of Oberlin; sons Joseph, James, both from Amherst six grandchildren and his mother Anne Belle King Pullin of Amherst and sisters Shirley Shullick of Amherst and brothers James Jr., Larry and Howard all of Amherst. She was a former Mason County teacher, member of the College Club of New Britain, Conn., Mental Health Association, New England School of Development Council, American Red Cross and Evangelical Covenant Church of Bay Indies, Fla.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Royal E Larson and William L Rhodes.
Surviving are step-sons, Royale E Larson of Renton, Wash., and William F Rhodes Jr. of Poolsville, Md.; stepdaughters, Mrs. Gerald Stewart of Weathersfield, Conn., and Barbara Lee Rieley of Virginia; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MASON W.Va. - Maxine O. Rickard, 83, of Mason, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 at her residence.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Born Oct. 19, 1918, in Broad Run, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Garnet L. (McMillin) Hesson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Rickard Sr., who died in 1986, a son, Edward F. Rickard Jr., and three brothers, Orland A., Organ A. and Otis W. Hesson.
Surviving are a daughter, Mackie G. Lavender of Grand Ledge, Mich., Daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann (Kim) Neal of Mason; granddaughters and husbands, Kerry A. (Joel) King, D. Lynn (James) Keesee, granddaughter, Tara L. Lavender, grandson and wife, Jason E. (Tone) Crandol, grandsons, Justin R. Carndol, Ryan E Rickard, Carl A. Rickard, James E. Lavender; step-grandson, John W. Salla; five great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine A. (Carl) Gibbs of New Haven; sister-in-law, Edna Young Hesson of Point Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. with Father Regis Schlick officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Foglesong-Tucker Funeral Home Monday, 6 to 9 p.m. A Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday.

He was a retired letter carrier, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a member of Peniel United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 23, Eastern Star Chapter 157, the Carpenters Union and American Legion Post 140, New Haven.

POINT PLEASANT -- Linda Ilene (Taylor) Riffle, 57, Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
She was employed at Fruth Pharmacy and in the housekeeping department at Holzer Clinic in Gallipolis. She attended Leon United Methodist Church in Leon, where she taught Sunday School.
Born July 16, 1944, in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter of the late Elwin "Davy" Taylor and the late Hazel (Lawson) Taylor.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Elwin, Mort and Bouse Taylor.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde Leroy Riffle; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy Lynn and Clyde Gregory Riffle of Point Pleasant; three sisters, Elda Chattin and Stella Mash, both of Point Pleasant, and Irene Neilson of Bell Gardens, Calif.; two brothers, Walter Taylor and Dwight Taylor, both of Point Pleasant; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 pm today, Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Hammack officiating.
There was no visitation. Arrangements are by Crow-Hussell Funeral Home.

POINT PLEASANT - George Edward Roberts, 85, of Point Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1916, in Gallatin, Pa., son of the late Samuel and Edna Roberts, he was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where he had served as deacon, church treasurer, finance committee, trustees board, men's fellowship, church scout committee and Withers class.
He was also a member of the Point Pleasant Lions Club and served as Scoutmaster. He was a retired bookkeeper for American Electric Power and a US Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and Mountain State College.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E (Taylor) Roberts, along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Samuel M, Kenneth D "Chub" and John M Roberts.
Services will be 11 am Thursday in Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Burial will be in Kirkland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 tonight.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Youth scholarship or Building Fund in care of the main Street Baptist Church in Point Pleasant.

Edward A Robinson, 78, Zephyrhills, Fla., died Friday, November 30, 2001, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in Dade City, Fla.
Born in Apple Grove, W.Va., he was a construction superintendent and an 11 year employee of Publix Supermarket in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He also was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Robinson of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a son, George Robinson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a sister, Clara Mae Sargent of Racine, Ohio; two brothers, Raymond Robinson of New Bern, N.C., and Howard Robinson of Racine; and two grandchildren.
No services are planned.
