BIRD, CAPERTON, DARNELL, KEATON, MEANS, NEELY, PHILLIPS,
ST.CLAIR, WRIGHT -
I am Looking for descendants of Hugh Means and Elizabeth Wright. Their son Charles
William the first{of three} had two Daughters: Clara Elizabeth 1852-1938 and Sarah Catherine
1858-? all the Family except Sarah Catherine moved to Wayne County Illinois, where Samuel,
Charles's older brother, was living then. Sarah Catherine, who must have been married by then,
stayed in West Virginia. As near as I can find She was Known as Kate. I have a copy of a letter
written By Josie Bird to Rev. C. N. Means {Charles Nathaniel} Introducing herself
as the daughter of Kate Means. Now there where a couple of mistakes but her info on the
family was essentially correct. Charles and Samuel's Father was Hugh Means Abt
1770-12-18-1858 and lived in Mercer County Virginia. before it became West Virginia, in the part
that is now in Summers county, As near as I can figure, on The Indian Hill as Hugh's will
States.
Kate first Married William Bluford St.Clair, and had one daughter Rosetta,
then she married William Ferdinand Keaton. and had 4 children. Mazie Ina, Amie J, Goodlow
Gooch, and Josie Isabel Keaton, the author of the above cited letter. I'm sure there are
descendants still in this area as they where living there in 1966 when the letter was written.
They are who I am Trying to contact. Kate's descendants Names include St.Clair,
Keaton, Phillips, Neely, Bird, Darnell and possibly
Caperton

BELCHER -
Help! I am trying hard to find the parents of my third great grandfather, Lewis Belcher,
1824-1889. He is said to have come from Tazewell County to Logan County.
This is what I know.
On the Tazewell County web page, I found a will for Isom Belcher which named 14 children;
12 sons and 2 daughters. Isom died in 1823. By the 1860 census of Mercer County, at least five of
the sons can be located. It is posssible that the part of Mercer County in which they were found,
could have very well been Tazewell County at one time. Those sons living in Mercer in 1860
include Obediah John, Isom, Henry and Asa. I have been told that John is most logically the
father of my Lewis, but no proof. I have not yet located Lewis in the 1850 census in any county.
He is living in Boone County in 1860 and Logan in 1880 and was there until his death.
Does
anyone have anything on Lewis Belcher? I am willing to to look at anything at this point.
