CHAFFE, WEST VIRGINIA

A hamlet on the Western Maryland Railroad, and the North Branch of the Potomac River, Elk District, Mineral County WV.
Chaffe was named for Senator Jerome B. Chaffe or Colorado. Sen. Chaffe was a business associate of Stephen Benton Elkins and visited here in 1881 along the projected route of the Western Maryland Railroad. He became a large stockholder in that concern.
