Council called and met on Monday March 4th 1889. Council opened by singing the 138th hymn, prayer and reading the First Corinthians 13th Chapter and some remarks from the same.

Case 1st

Brother John W Leatherman reports he sent $6.00 to D L Miller for missionary work this 30th day of February 1889.

Case 2nd

Church decides to appoint a committee to settle a land matter between Bro Solomon Biser and Bro Edward Whiteman, committee appointed are Bro Peter Arnold, Bro J W Leatherman and Bro Taylor Arnold.

Case 3rd

A charge against Bro Robert T Whiteman of wearing a mustache. Church decides to appoint two (2) Brethren, John W Arnold and Jacob McDonald to visit Bro Robert T Whiteman.

Case 4th

Bro Joseph P Carnell requests a reconsideration of his case with George E Arnold. Church decides to relieve her self of the case, and give it over to Jo P Carnell and Geo E Arnold to settle the money matter satisfactory to themselves.

Case 5th

Church decides Bro Daniel B Arnold and Bro Peter Arnold as Delegates to district meeting. And Bro George S Arnold as delegate to annual meeting.

Case 6th

On taking or making collections on the Sabbath, sent to District meeting.

Case 7th

Church decides to pay Sister Martha Biser what she charges (that is $7.00 which makes $28.00 in all) for taking care of Sister Polly Prophet in her last sickness.

Council closed by singing the 114th hymn and prayer.

Council called and met on Monday March 7 1889, council opened by singing the 289 hymn & prayer and reading the First Corinthians 13th Chapter.

Case 1st

Brother John W Leatherman reports that he forwarded to D L Miller for Missionary work $6.00 the 28 day of July 1889.

Case 2nd

A charge against Sister Anna V Shields (now Shoemaker) for adultery, the church decides that Sister Anna be espelled (sic) until she comes and makes humble & Public acknowledgment of her error before the church & affords Proof of sincere penitence.

Case 3rd

A charge against Bro James T Whiteman for going to law without the council of the church and he has brought the church into reproach on account of the proceedings & contradictory evidence in the case. Bro James being duly notified to appear in council & answer the above & he failed to do so, in view of the above & in view of the fact that Bro James as a general rule fails to attend Public meetings for Worship or Council Meetings this showing a general disregard for the fellowship & council of the church, the church therefore decides disfellowship him until he retracts his course & makes satisfaction to the church.

Case 4th

A charge against Bro Silas Izer for useing (sic) unbecomeing (sic) language to Mrs Betty Martyn. Bro Silas makes acknowledgement to the church that he had done wrong & Promised to do so no more.

Case 5th

The church decides & appoints Bro Taylor Arnold as trustee to act with Bro J W Leatherman and J W Arnold as trustees of the church house, Council closed by singing the 107 hymn and prayer.

The Fourth Quarterly council called & met Dec the 14th 1889. Meeting opened by Singing the 282 hymn and prayer & reading the 12 chapter of 1st Corinthians.

Case 1st

Bro James Whiteman applies for a new investigation in his case, the church decided not to investigate the case, but to further consider the Items charged against Bro James Whiteman for not attending meeting & after due consideration the church decides to acknowledge to Bro James that he have not done our duty in visiting them in time of sickness & also in regard to his not attending meeting. The church further decides that Bro James Can be restored to fellowship by making good acknowledgements to the rest of the Items in the Book.

Case 2nd

Bro J P Carnell charged with a disturbance at Dan Arnolds by useing (sic) bad language & that he had been drinking too mutch (sic) & for not Paying (?fee)bills to Geo Arnold sent by Mr Sampson Taylor & for telling the untruth in regard to Scedulonary (sic) his property for using unbecomeing (sic) language in a letter to Frederick & Peters at Keyser. Bro Joseph was asked to acknowledge his wrongs in there cases whitch (sic) acknowledgement Bro Joseph made with a promise to try & do better in the future. Meeting closed by singing the 111th hymn and Prayer.

The following has no date, but was in with the 1889 papers, so I am including it here.

D R Leatherman appointed clerk instead of Wm Leatherman who is unable longer to serve in that capacity on account of his illness.

1. Annie V Shields who was formerly expelled for adultery, came before the council, confessed her faults from - promised to do better and asked the church to forgive her and to receive her back into the church fellowship. The church considered the case and received her back into fellowship.

2. Charges against Bro J P Carnell lst, for swearing, 2nd lying 3rd drinking. Bro Jo. is not present but the church acts in his case. The charges being sustained the church decides to disfellowship him until he reforms.

4. Delegates elected to go to District meeting to be held at the Freeland Church in Preston County, G S Arnold and J W Leatherman/Peter Arnold (tie).

5. Bro J W Leatherman presented a receipt from D Miller, Mt Morris Ill, for $8.00 missionary money sent him from this church for last half of 1889.

6. Church appoints D B Arnold and G S Arnold to get from the Clerks office the wealth of the brethren for 1889 to present the same to D M as requested by last D M.

7. A call from Bro J C Judy on South Mill Creek, Grant Co to assist the members there to erect a church house, considered. Bro Jacob McDonald is appointed as solicitor, but first he is instructed to communicate with Bro Judy and ascertain certain information in regards the building of a church there.

8. The church renews their request from last year for the next D M 1891.

9. The church decides to adopt the general rule of appointing all the meetings at 11 for Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar and at 10 for Apr, May, June, July, Aug & Sept. Except when there is ? any of the last named months, the appointments will be at 10 1/2 oclock.
