This Indenture made the third day of June in
the Year of our Lord seventeen hundred and eighty three Between Peter
Umstaat of the County of Hampshire in the State of Virginia Farmer of
the one Part and William Cane of Frederick County in the State of
Maryland Farmer of the other Part Witnesseth that the said Peter
Umstaat for and in Consideration of the Sum of one hundred and eighty
Pounds current Money of Maryland to him in Hand paid by the said
William Cane before the ensealing and Delivery of these Presents, the
Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted bargained sold
aligned released confessed and confirmed and by these Presents doth
give grant bargain sell assign release enforce and confirms unto him
the said William Cane his Heirs and Assigns forever. Deed of Tract or
Parcoll of Land Lying and being in Frederick County in the State of
Maryland called "The Resurvey on Moale" Beginning for said
Part hereby to be conveyed at the End of the twentieth Course of the
said Resurvey on Moale and runing thonce South fifty Degrees, West
thirty four Perches. West ten Perches. North ten Degrees, East
seventy Perches. North fifty three Degrees, West forty Perches. West
sixteen perches. Then South eighty Degrees West fourteen Perches.
North thirty four Degrees, East one hundred and forty six Perches.
South sixty Degrees, East one hundred and eight Perches. South twenty
nine Degrees West one hundred and sixty two Perches, to the first
Beginning Containing one hundred Acres of Land more or less. Together
with all and singular the Buildings Improvemonts, Profits Commodities
Privilidges, Easmonts Advantages and Appurtenances whatsoever thereon
being or thereunto in any Wise belonging or appertaining To Have and
To Hold the said Tract or Parcoll of Land, and Promises with its
appurtenances unto him the said William Cane his Heirs and Assigns
forever, for his and their only proper Use and Benefit; and to and
for no other use Intent or Purposes whatsoever. And the said Peter
Umstaat - for himself and Heirs doth hereby covenant and grant
promise and agree to and with tho said William Cano his Heirs and
Assigns, that he the said Peter Umstaat and his Heirs shall and will
warrant and defend the said Land and promises with the appertenances
unto him the said William Cane his Heirs and Assigns forever against
all and all Manner of Person or Persons lawfully claiming or
hereafter lawfully to claim from by or under him the said Peter
Umstaat or Heirs or by their Means of procuromont. And the said Peter
Umstaat for himself and Heirs doth further Covenant promise and
agree, to and with the said William Cane his Heirs and Assigns, that
he the said Peter Umstaat his Executors or Administrators shall and
will at any Time hereafter execute any other Deed or Instrument in
Writing for the further better and more perfect granting convoying
and confirming of the Land and Promises aforesaid unto him the said
William Cano his Heirs and Assigns forever as by the said William
Cano his Heirs or Assigns, his or their Council learned in the Law
shall think requosite and necessary. In Witness whereof the said
Peter Umstaat hath hereunto set his Hand and affixed his Seal the Day
and Year first within written. 	Peter Umstatt (seal) signed

On the back of which Deed were endorsed the
following Receipt and acknowledgements Viz Maryland Frederick County
to wit. Jun 3rd 1783 Came before us the Subscribers Two Justices in
and for Frederick County aforesaid Peter Umstaat Party to the within
Deed, and acknowledged the same to be his Act, and the Land and
Promises thereby convoy ed, to be the Right title and Estate of the
said William Cano his Heirs and Assigns forEver, according to the
true Intent and Meaning thereof. At the same time came Rachael, Wife
of the said Peter Umstat and being privately examined relinquished
her Right of Dower voluntarily and freely without Dread or Fear of
her said Husband's Displeasure.

This Indenture made the twentieth day of
August in the year one thousand seven hundred & Seventy six
Between Cornelius Payat & Elizabeth his wife of the County of
Hampshire & State of Virginia of the one part and Peter Umstot of
the same county & State aforesaid of the other part and that
Witforth that for and in the consideration of the Sum of thirty two
Pounds Virginia Currency to the said Cornelius Payat in hand paid by
the Said Peter Umstot, at or before the sealing on delivering of
those presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge &
therefore doth release aquits and discharge the Said Peter Umstot his
Heirs Executors and Administrators by those Present he the said
Cornelius Payat hath granted bargained sold delivered and confirmed
& by those presents doth grant, bargain, sell alien and confirm
unto the said Peter Umstot & his Heirs fifty acres of Land
sitiuated in the County of Hampshire being part of the Survey the
said Umstot now owns the Deed obtained from the honorable Beverly
Randolph, Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Virtue
of a Warrant from the late Land Proprietor's Office of the Northern
Neck of Virginia being dated November the 9th day of 1777 the said
fifty acres of Land hereby bargained & sold being bounded as
follows Beginning at a White Oak & a Pine on the South side of a
lick, near two small drains of Beaver Run a Branch of Patterson's
Creek & joins to Frederick Fink's & running N 50 E 32 Poles
to White Oak on the Top of a Ridge joins to the other part of the
same Survey thence S 50 E along the top of the Ridge 80 Poles to a
Walnut thence S 45 E along the Top of the same ridge 94 Poles to
Black Oak & two Pines thence S 42 W 64 Poles to four chesnut Okes
Bushes forwr to Fred. K Fink's thence N 41 W one & 24 Poles to
the beginning containing fifty acres be it more or less & all
houses orchards ways water Courses Profits commodities appurtenances
& the reversions remainders Rents issues or any part thereof
belonging or in anywise appertaining thereof & all property
Claims & demand whatsoever of the said Cornelius Peyat of in &
to the Said Premisses touching or in any wise concerning the same To
have and to hold the Land hereby conveyed & all the singular the
premises hereby bargained and sold with every part and parcel thereof
with every of these appurtenances unto the said Peter Umstot his
Heirs and assigns forever to these only proper use benefit and behoof
for ever and the Cornelius Peyat for himself, his Heirs, and
Executors & Admins doth Covenant his wife and grant to & with
the said Peter Umstot, his Heirs, and assigns, by those presents that
the said Cornelius Peyat now at the time of sealing and delivering of
those presents is seized of a good and perfect & indefeasible
Estate of Inheritance in fee simple of & in the Premises hereby bargained and sold & that he hath good power & Lawful Authority to grant and Convey to the said Peter Umstot in manner and forms foresaid & that the Premises now are & so forever shall remain clear of & from all, former & other graint bargain sales troubles Changes of easements or that so ever note dues or taxes by the said Cornelius Peyat or any other Person or Persons whatsoever the quitrents and taxes hereafter to become due and payable in respect of the Premises excepted & that the said Cornelius Peyat & all his Heirs, & all and every Person & their Heirs whatsoever shall warrant and for ever defend, by those presents and lastly, that he, the said Cornelius Peyat & his Heirs & all & every other Person or Persons Heirs and their Heirs any thing having or claiming heirs before at issue bargained & sold shall & will from time to time & at all times hereafter at the reasonable request & at the proper Cost Changes in the Law of heirs of the said Peter Umstot his Heirs or assigns, make dower execute or cause to be made dower or executed all Law for this & other lawful & reasonable Act or acts thing or things Conveyances and assurances for the furthered issued Cator(?) & perfect conveying and assuring the Premises aforesaid with their appurtenances unto said Peter Umstot his Heirs or assigns or there Counsel learned in the Law shall be reasonable devised advised or required In Witness whereof this said Cornelius Peyat & his Elizabeth has hereunto set their Hands and Seals this Day and year above written.

This Indenture made the seventh day of November in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five Between Robert Higgins of the County of Hampshire and Hannah his wife of the one part And Peter Umstot of the aforsaid County of Hampshire of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Sum of one Hundred and fifty five Pounds Current Money of Virginia by the said Peter Umstot in hand paid at or before the Sealing and Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said Robert Higgins Doth hereby acknowledge and thereof doth release aquit and Discharge the said Peter Umstot his heirs Executors and Administrators Forever by these presents they the said Robert Higgins and Hannah his wife Have and each of them Hath granted bargained sold align and Confirmed and by these presents do and each of them Doth grant Bargain Sell alien and Confirm unto the said Peter Umstot his heirs and assigns All that tract or parcel of Land Situate, lying and being in the said County of Hampshire Containing by a patent from under the hand and Seal of The Right Honorable Thomas Lord Fairfax dated the Twenty first day of June one Thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Seven Two hundred and forty acres and bounds as Followeth (to wit) Beginning at two white oaks on a Knoll and running West one hundred and sixty poles to a Pine and Chestnut Oak on a hill side. Thence North Two hundred and Forty Poles to two Pines on a hill side Thence East one hundred and Sixty poles to a water oak by the lick run Thence South Two hundred and forty poles to the Beginning And all houses outhouses Edifices, buildings yards, gardens orchards, Woods, underwoods, Trees, ways, waters, Watercourses, profits, Commodities, herditaments, and appurtenances whatsoever to the said Tract or parcel of Land belonging or in any way appending. And the reversion, and Reversions, Remainder, and Remainders Rents Issues and Profits thereof, and also all the Estate Right, title, interest, use trust possession, benefit property Claim and Demand of them the said Robert Higgins and Hannah his wife, of in or to the same. and all deeds Evidences and Writings touching or in anyway Concerning the said Premises. To have and to hold the said Tract of Two hundred and forty acres of land and Premises herein before Mentioned or intended to be hereby Bargained and sold with their and every of their apprertances unto the said Peter Umstot his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Peter Umstot his heirs and assigns forever and the said Robert Higgins for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators Doth Covenant promise and Grant to and with the said Peter Umstot his heirs and assigns by these presents that he the said Robert Higgins now at the time of Sealing and Delivery of these presents is Seized of a perfect Indefeasible Estate of Inheritance in fee simple of and in the tract or parcel of land and premises hereby bargained and sold with their and every of their appurtenances that the said premises hereby bargained and sold now are and so forever hereafter shall be and remain free and Clear and freely and Clearly Acqiuted Econerated and discharged of and from all former and other Gifts Grants bargains Sales Leases Intails Jointers Dowers title or titles of Dowers Mortgages, Extents Judgements and Executions and all other Titles troubles Charges and Encumbrances whatsoever. from Robert Higgins Uxor and Hannah his wife to Peter Umstot was on
the part of the said Robert Higgins proved by the oaths of Robert
Higgins Jurat and John Higgins two of the Witnesses there to which
was ordered to be Certified and at a Court held for the said County
the 16th day of September 1790 the same was further proved by the
oath of Andrew Wodrow, the other witness thereto and ordered to be Recorded.

Ninety One, Between Casper Hersman and Mary his Wife of the County of
Hampshire of the one part, and Peter Umstod of the same County of the
other part, Witnesseth that for and in the Consideration of the sum
of Forty pounds Virginia Currency to this Casper Hersman in hand paid
by the said
Peter Umsted at or before the sealing &
Delivering of these presents the Receipt whereof he doth hereby
acknowledge and thereto doth Release Acquit and Discharge the said
Peter Umsted his heirs Exectutors Admrs By these presents he the said
Casper Hersman hath Granted Bargained Sold and Confirmd and by these
presents doth Grant Bargain, Sell alien and Confirm unto Peter Umsted
and his heirs One hundred acres of Land situate in the County of
Hampshire being part of a Survay obtained the Deed from the right
Honourable Beverly Randolph Esquire of the Common Wealth of Virginia
and by Virtue of a Warrant from the late Lord Proprietors Office

eight poles to a black Oak & two Pines Corner to the other part
of the same Survay on the top of the Ridge thence N. 45 W along the
Middle of the top of the Ridge one hundred & fifty poles to the
Beginning, Containing one hundred acres be it more or less, and all
houses, Orchards, Ways, Water Courses profit Commodities and
appurtenances Whatsoever to the said Premises hereby granted or any
part thereof, belonging or in anywise appertaining & the
Reversions remainders. torts Issues Profits thereof & all
property Claim and Demands Whatsoever of him the said Casper Hersman

Manner and form aforesaid & that the Premises now are & so

other Grants Bargains Sales, Troubles Charges & Encumberments
whatsoever made done commited or suffered by the sd Casper Hersman,
or any other Person or Persons Whatsoever (The Quit-rents or Taxes
hereafter to become due & Payable in Respect of the Premises
Excepted) and that the said Casper Hersman & his heirs & all
and every other persons & their heirs Whatsoever shall Warrant
& forever Defend by these presented And Lastly that the said
Casper Hersman & his heirs & all and every other person &
Persons & his & their heirs anything or Claiming hereafter
before mentioned bargained & sold shall and will from time to
time & at all times hereafter at the Reasonable request and all
the proper Cost & Charges in the Law of him the sd Peter Umstod
his heirs or assigns made or Executed or cause to be made done or
Executed all such further & other lawful Acts thing or things
convayancies & assurencies for the further better and more
Perfect Conveying & assuring the Premises aforesaid with their
appertaincies unto the sd Peter Umsted his heirs or assigns or their
Counsel learned in the Law shall be reasonably Devised Advised or

26th day of June 1792 This Deed of bargain and sale from Casper
Hersman & Mary his Wife to Peter Umstod was proved on the part of
the said Casper by the Oath of Thomas Learenby and the solomn
affirmation of James Watts & Frederick Fink the Witnesses thereto
& Ordered to be recorded.
Watts &Uxor Umpstatt Deed Exd
This Indenture made the 4th day of April in
the year of our Lord 1804 Between Archibald Watts and Jane his wife
of the County of Hampshire and State of Virginia of the 	one
part and Peter Umpstatt of the same place of the other part
witnesseth that the said Archibald Watts and Jane his wife for and in
Consideration of the sum of Twenty Pounds current money of Virginia
to the said Archibald Watts in hand paid by the said Peter Umpstatt,
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, Have granted Bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the
said Peter Umpstatt and his Heirs a certain tract or parcel of Land,
lying and being in the said County of Hampshire on some of the drains
of Beaver run a drain of Pattersons creek adjoining the lands of
George Utt and the said Peter Umpstatt and is bounded as followeth To
Wit. Beginning at a white Oak near James Parker's run and in the line
of the said lott thence with said line crossing the run S. 54 W 28
poles to a chesnut oak near said Umpstatts land Thence S.9 E 80 poles
to a white oak in said Umpstatts line Thence with said line S. 34 E
44 poles to two white oaks corner to said Umpstatt thence with or
near another line of his S. 10 W 112 poles to two pines and a black
oak oak another corner to Umpstatt thence S. 70 E 19 poles to a
chesnut oak thence S. 36 E 16 poles to a red oak and and chesnut oak
near the foot of the middle ridge, thence N. 40 E. 66 poles to two
hiccories thence N. 14 W 214 poles to the Beginning containing fifty
acres being the same Tract or parcel of Land that was granted to a
certain James Watts by the Commonwealth of Virginia by patent bearing
date the 3rd day of December in the year of our Lord 1794 and
conveyed by the said James Watts and Susannah his wife to the said
Archibald Watts by deed of Bargain and sale bearing date the 15th day
of October 1798 now of record in the Court of said County of
Hampshire reference being thereunto had will more fully appear and
all houses buildings and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in
anywise appertaining to and the Reversion and Reversions and
Remainders and Remainders Rents issues and profits thereof. To have
and to hold at the Land hereby conveyed and all and singular the
appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto
the said Peter Umpstatt and his heirs and assigns to and for the only
proper use of the said Peter Umpstatt and of his Heirs and assigns
forever, and the said Archibald Watts and Jane his wife for
themselves and their Heirs the said Tract or parcel of Land with all
and singular the premises and appurtenances thereunto belonging unto
the said Peter Umpstatt unto his Heirs and assigns against them The
said Archibald Watts and Jane his wife and their Heirs and all and
every other person and persons whatsoever shall warrant and forever
defend by these presents, In Witness whereof the said Archibald Watts
and Jane his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and
year first herein before written.

The commonwealth of Virginia to John
Jack, Edward Dyer and James Dailey Gentlemen Justices of Hampshire
County Greetings, whereas Archibald Watts and Jane his wife by their
certain Indenture of Bargain and sale bearing the date 4th day of
April 1804 have sold and conveyed unto Peter Umpstatt the Fee Simple
Estate of and in a certain Tract or parcel of Land lying and being in
the said County of Hampshire containing fifty acres, and whereas the
said Jane cannot conveniently travel to the court of our said County
of Hampshire to acknowledge the same, therefore we command you or any
two of you, that you personally go to the said Jane and receive her
acknowledgment thereof and examine her privately and apart from her
said husband whether she doth the same freely and voluntarily without
his persuasions or threats, and whether she is willing the same shall
be recorded in our said County Court, together with this Commision
enacted, and when you have received her acknowledgment and examined
her as aforesaid that you accurately and plainly certify us thereof,
under your hands and seals sending us there this writ and the said
Indenture, witness Andrew Wodrow Clerk of our said court at the County
House aforesaid the 4th day of April 1804
and in the 28th
Year of this Commonwealth.

of Archibald Watts and examined her privily and apart from her said

County Court of Hampshire, certified under our hands and seals the
4th day of April 1804
