under the name of Joshua J. Mahew,
on the 8th

as a private,
in Company I 10th Regiment of
West Virginia Vols. Infantry
in the service of the United States, in the Civil
war, and was HONORABLE
DISCHARGED at Richmond
Va., on the 13th
day of May,
1865.

That he was not employed in the military or
naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above.
That his personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5
feet 10
inches; complexion, light;
color of eyes, gray;
color of hair, light;
that his occupation was farm hand;

That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: near Keyser & Romney West Virginia every since close of the War, as a farmer & live on my place.
That he is a pensioner. The he has heretofore applied for pension and received pension under certificate no. 197.777
That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of February 6, 1907.
That his post-office address is Romney, county of Hampshire State of West Virginia

Also personally appeared C A Doyle, residing in Romney and J W Poling, residing in South Branch, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Joshua J Mahew, the claimant, sign his name (or make his mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of the claimant and their acquaintance with him of 15 years and 30 years, respectively, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
