BRONZE STAR AWARDED UNDER ORDER NO 12, 424 "D" DATED DEC 20, 1918, GENERAL HEADQUARTERS, FRENCH ARMIES OF THE EAST, WITH THE FOLLOWING CITATION: "ATTACHED TO A REGIMENTAL FIRST-AID STATION TO EFFECT THE TRANSPORTATION OF THE WOUNDED, HE VOLUNTEERED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO GO INTO A VILLAGE SUBJECTED TO A CONTINUED BOMBARDMENT IN ORDER TO FIND THOSE WHO WERE GASSED. HE GAVE A FINE EXAMPLE OF COURAGE AND ZEAL IN REFUSING TO BE RELIEVED BEFORE THE EVACUATION OF ALL THOSE AFFECTED."

WITH MUCH DEVOTION AND COOLNESS HE EFFECTED THE EVACUATION OF THE WOUNDED AND GASSED FROM THE FRONT LINE DURING THE OPERATIONS OF SEPT AND OCT 1918. WAS HIMSELF GASSED."
