I am researching the STARR families of Logan/Mingo County, WV. and would appreciate any information on any Starr family that lived in the Logan/Mingo County area prior to 1920. I need information on the following family who lived in West Virginia from 1904 until 1920 and maybe longer. They were in Mingo Co. in 1920 census. John Scott, born 1863, Ireland or Ohio (1900 Ohio census says Ireland and says he immigrated in about 1885 to US) He was a coal miner. His wife, Agnes O'Bryan, born 1876, Ireland or Ohio (1900 Ohio census says Ireland) Their children were: James, 1891; Lenora, 1893; William A., 1895; Anna, 1897. All born in Ohio. In 1920 census the children were: Elizabeth Davis, 26; Nella Thomas, 22; Mary Scott, 18; Laura, 16; Agnes, 13; also a grandson, John W. Thomas, 1 11/12. Laura Scott was born in WV and so was the grandson. The others were born in Ohio. The married girls were all listed as widows. Of these children, William A. Scott, born 1895, Jackson Co., OH, married Jennie Lee Dean, born 1899, Cora, KY. She was the daughter of George Washington Dean and Missouri Pennington. Searching for Kenedy (Canada, Kennedy), - had three daughters, born late > 1890's - Shrilda (Sarilda?), Stella and Della. Parents were Samson and Mary (Polly?). Shrilda was born 3/1/1897. Her birth certificate lists parents as Samson and Mary Kennedy. Her marriage certificate lists parents as Polly and Frank Smith. She was born in Williamson, WV 1900 census, Magnolia District, lists Kennada, widow with grand-daughters Sarilda, age 4 and Stella, age 6 and grandson Dow. Della married a Turner. Shrilda was my grandmother. The information we are getting is very confusing and we are trying to piece it together to get more accurate information. Have researched census records for Mingo and Logan counties for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910. Are we on the right track? Any help or suggestions?

My brother-in-law and I are researching the background of the Gaujot brothers. These men were both awarded the Medal of Honor, in separate wars. They may be the only "brother winners" of the MOH. If we locate enough useful data, we plan to publish an article in "West Virginia History." Both men were born in Keweenah, MI--Julien E. on 22 Oct 1876, Antoine A. on ?, They both entered the US Army at Williamson, and so are "officially credited" to WV. Ken Bailey lists a Claude L. Gaujot, Jr., as joining the 2d WV Infantry at Huntington in 1915, Given the unusual famly name and geographical proximity, I would surmise that Claude was an immediate relative. I also recall seeing reference to a '"Captain Gaujot" in the State Police in the 1920s... hopefully the WVSP can get that info from their personnel records. Any hard source informaton about the family--particularly when and why they came to WV, occupations, residences, etc.--would be most appreciated. Thank you. P.S. I was b. in Beaver, graduated Marshalll U. in 1969, and work for the USDA in Beltsville, MD. My brother-in-law, Don Davis, was b. in Maple Fork and resides in Daniels. HENRY BREWER

I grew up at Sheppards Town, on Trace Creek, a couple of miles above Belo in Mingo county. left school in 65. Looking to find history of Henry Brewer. my grandfather who died before I was born 1947. Dad never knew where grandpaw was from because he never talked about his past, except that he had spent time in prison in Texas for killing a man. other than that, he never talked about his past, but died and was buried in a family cemetary about 1/2 mile above Belo. I'm looking for infomation on Ezra Rasnake and Martha Lambert. I understand they were from the Varney section of Mingo County. They were probably married there around 1915. My name is Zane D. Perry. I am the GGgrandson of John Floyd Vance and Catherine Prince Vance. John Floyd Vance was the son of Richard D. Vance and Matilda Browning. These people lived around the Breeden area of Twelve Pole before it became part of Mingo Co. I am interested in finding out who Matilda Brownings' parents were. McCOY

I am looking for info on a McCoy who married a Sylvia Blackburn. Family says they were from Pike Co KY. I can't seem to find any info on them there so I am expanding my options. I do not know the McCoys first name or the dates of the marriage or about when they were born. it should have been around the middle 1800 towards late 1800. I am trying to locate any information on Rosa Patsy Cisco. I'm not sure what her maiden name is, I've heard Cisco all my life, then I got her death certificate and it says Scherrern. I am trying to locate parents of John Henry Maynard..He had a brother named Peter Maynard. John Henry is buried at the Newsome cemetery at Naugatuck. His mother's name is thought to be Rhoda (Mainor) Maynard...John Henry and Comfort were married in Pike Co, Ky 9/6/1855. John Henry was probably born in May, 1834-36. Rhoda may have been the daughter of William Maynard (born 1755/56) and Elizabeth Broadway (born @1770) and married in johnston co, NC 26 Oct 1792.
