We are researching for my father's parents. His name was Luther John Dunsmore born around 1917. We have found a listing of him at age 3, on the 1920 census. He is listed with Nannie Dunsmore, assumed his mother as she was 32 years old at the time. They were listed in the Almshouse at that time. He did not remember his mother as he was sent over to Craig County VA at about age 7. The 1910 census has indicated a William and Maggie Dunsmore along with two daughters living in the Almshouse. We are trying to determine if this was his grandfather. The girls names were not legible so we cannot determine if one of the daughters was Nannie. We believe his mother married a William Bostick and that's when he was sent to VA. If anyone can provide information it would be appreciated.

As a lateral descendant of the early Adairs of Monroe Co., I was just wondering whether anyone would know which Adair family member owned the well-known Adair property near Cashmere prior to, and after, the Civil War?. I've been led to believe that it was William Adair (bc 1804), a merchant, and his wife Sarah(nee Harvey)Adair, but I have yet to confirm this. Also, would anyone know approximately how long the Adairs owned this property? Anything about the property's history (e.g., whether it was used as a makeshift Confederate headquarters or hospital during the Civil War)? Whether the Adairs owned slaves or not? Whether any of William's sons served in the Confederate Army or not? Whether any of his children died prematurely/tragically on this property? Although I would doubt that many would have any pertinent information to share, any information provided in response to the above questions would be appreciated. If possible, however, please copy any response(s) to my personal e-mail address as well. Thanks very much, Bob

We belive he was the son of George Gross and his mother's maiden name was Mann. They were German immigrants, so the story goes, from Hamburg. We have no other information on Theodore except that he had seven or so siblings. He enlisted in the Confederate army in 1861 and served with Clark's Brigade as a sharpshooter. He was wounded and imprisoned by the Federals until after the war (Nov. 1865) When he returned to the family homestead after his release he was unable to locate any of his family or determine their whereabouts. He migrated south to Alabama and eventually Tishomingo County Mississippi where he lived out his life, marrying three times and fathering many children. I am terribly puzzled by a record I have found in Monroe Co. that says a Robert McEldowney paid the tuition of 3 daughters - Elizabeth W, Letty and Nancy - for schooling in 1842. I can find no other mention of McEldowneys in Monroe Co. I have researched all McEldowneys in the US for many years and this entry absolutely baffles me. I have no missing Robert McEs that fit the profile of this Robert and the SE corner WVa was not a part of any migration route for any of the family that I am aware of. Paying tuition, particularly for daughters in that era, suggests an extended stay in the county of at least a year. Perhaps someone can give me some insight into what might be happening here. For instance, was Monroe Co. part of any standard migration route of that era? What sources other than those on this website might tutn up any more information about Robert and his family? Help!!!!

TN (where, I believe, Thomas FULTON's dau. Mary FULTON m.Frederick MEREDITH abt. 1800), then lived various places in TN and KY, possibly finally settling in Wayne Co. TN by 1815. Living in Wayne Co.
