MOUNT de CHANTAL CEMETERY

Compiled and submitted by Charles Julian, PhD.

The Sisters of the Visitation have buried their colleagues in this cemetery since their establishment at Mount de Chantal. There are some other people included in the cemetery who were employees, faculty, or colleagues of the sisters. A few of the graves represent Carmelite sisters whose graves were relocated when the Carmelite monastery in Wheeling was closed.

Effective June 1, 2010, there are a total of 171 marked graves in the cemetery which is located to the south of the academy building (running parallel to the I-70 West entrance ramp). Although the Sisters have departed the Mount property, they have been assured by the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston that regardless of who might ultimately acquire the property, the cemetery will remain intact and perpetually be maintained.

Two spreadsheets are presented here. One is arranged by the row and lot location of the graves, the other is a surname sorted file of decedents.
