Harold Yahn

YAHN, Harold D. “Butch,” 74, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Sunday, September 17, 2006 in the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.

Butch was born August 17, 1932 in Wheeling, a son of the late Harold L. and Laura R. (Chute) Yahn.

He was retired from Ogden Newspapers, Wheeling; a member of St. Joseph Cathedral; the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph Cathedral; American Legion Post No. 1; Fleet Reserves Association; Executive Board of Hopeful City, Wheeling; 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus; Carroll Council No. 504; and Past President of the Wheeling Typographical Union. In addition, Butch served in the US Navy Reserve for 38 years.

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by a son, Bruce David Yahn; and a brother, George W. Yahn.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy J. (Lease) Yahn; a son, Timothy W. Yahn and his wife, Kim A., of Stamford, Conn.; a daughter, Laura R. Yahn of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Rose Ann Cook of Wheeling and Patricia Hunt of Perris, Calif.; two grandchildren, Jessica M. Yahn and Bruce David Yahn, II; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, where Vigil services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 21, 2006 at St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling with the Very Rev. Kevin Quirk as celebrant.

Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.


JENNIE YELESANKO

YELESANKO, Mrs. Jennie, 79, of Baltimore Ave., Toranto, died Wednesday morning at Ohio Valley Hospital. She was born March 14, 1892, in Russia. She was a member of Holy Transfiguration Russian Eastern Orthodox Church, Steubenville, and the Sisterhood of the church. Her husband, Demitri, died in 1939. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Merle (Mary) Stillwell of Toronto, and Mrs. Benjamin (Anita) Rambaud of Massillon; one son, Alex of Toronto; and five grandchildren. Friends received at the Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto, 3-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Brief services at the Holy Transfiguration Russian Eastern Orthodox Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Alexander Leon officiating. Interment in Toronto Union Cemetery.

YOHO, Charlotte Ann “Lottie” Rogers, 98, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Wheeling, died Wednesday at home. She was a former member of Fourth Street United Methodist Church, Wheeling. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L., in 1946; a son, William L., in 1986; his parents, William and Annabelle Rogers; a sister. Surviving are two daughters, Jean N. Merrick of Wheeling and Mrs. Clarence (June Evelyn) McCoy, with whom she resided; five grandchildren, Dr. Gregory S. Merrick of Wheeling, Gary D. McCoy and Mrs. Craig (Tanya) Harm, both of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Tina Lynn Levitt of Woodbury, N. J., and Mrs. James (Susan Ann) Hull of Mount Laurel, N. J. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with Rev. Robert Fuqua officiating. Interment in Stone Church Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Hospice, Tulsa, Okla.

SARAH EMILY YOHO

Mrs. Sarah Yoho, aged 72, died yesterday morning at her home on Peters Run after a brief illness. Mrs. Yoho was born in Monroe county, Ohio, and came here 33 years ago. Besides her husband she leaves the following children: Frank at home, William M., Jr. of Elm Grove, George of Wheeling, Mrs. Leona Kuhens of Elm Grove, Mrs. Della Gibson of Wheeling, Mrs. Frieda Fordyce and Mrs. Luella Fordyce of Elm Grove; 25 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon with Rev. M. Riddle, pastor of the Elm Grove M. E. church, officiating. Burial will be at Stone Church cemetery.

W. E. YOHO, 89, DIES SUNDAY:WELL KNOWN PETER’S RUN FARMER SUCCUMBED TO FIVE MONTHS ILLNESS

William Eugene Yoho, 89, well-known Ohio county farmer and a resident of Peter’s Run road for the past 44 years, succumbed to an illness of five months duration at 6:08 o’clock, Sunday evening, at his home.

Mr. Yoho was born in Monroe county, Ohio, August 13, 1847, a son of Jacob and Christina Stein Yoho. He came to Ohio county nearly half a century ago and had engaged in farming up until the time of his illness.

His wife, Sarah E. Smith Yoho preceded him in death 12 years ago. Surviving are three sons, five daughters, two half-brothers, three half-sisters, 28 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

The body was removed to the Crider funeral home where services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rev. A. Coleman Brown, pastor of the Elm Grove Methodist church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Stone Church cemetery.

MARSHALL E. YOST

Yost Obsequies Are Saturday

Obsequies will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Kepner funeral home for Marshall E. Yost, 62, resident of 1322 Water street, who died suddenly last night in Wheeling hospital following a heart attack.

Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.

A son of the late P. L. and Elma Shanks Yost, he was born August 25, 1883, at Mannington, W. Va. He was a member of the Warwood Methodist Church; Wheeling lodge No. 9, IOOF and the A.O.U.W. His wife, Minnie Priever Yost preceded him in death, October 9, 1945.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Florence Yost of Wheeling, Mrs. May Currence of Clarksburg, Mrs. Cora Taylor of Mannington, and two brothers, J. C. Yost of Wheeling, and J. E. Yost of Mannington.

Members of the IOOF No. 9 will meet this evening at 8:30 o’clock in the funeral home to conduct services.

Rev. Charles Young, 82, retired Methodist minister, died at his home in Bethany at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, after an illness of two weeks. He had been in the ministry 20 years and his last charges had been at Castleman's Run and Kadesh Chapel.

He was born June 29, 1867, at Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late Philip and Caroline Bender Young. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Atkinson Young; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Reeves, Clinton, WV, Mrs. Ruth Markley, at home, and Mrs. Virginia McDonald, Weirton; four sons, Carl A., Dover, Ohio, Lawrence S., Zanesville, Ohio, Chester C., Oro Grande, California, and Sumner W., West Alexander, PA; sister, Miss Emma Young, Bellaire, Ohio; brother, Daniel, San Bernardino, California.

Services will be held at the Chambers Funeral Home, Friday at 2:30 o'clock, with the Rev. James Blair Miller officiating. Burial will be in Kadesh Chapel Cemetery.

ROSEMARY CATHERINE HUGHES YOUNG

YOUNG, Rosemary Catherine Hughes, 73, of 501 Rhodes St., Bridgeport, died Monday at home. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Ayers; a daughter, June Ayers; her parents, Thurston and Carrie Mae Rider Hughes; her stepfather, Alton Powell. Surviving are her husband, Wilbert of Bridgeport; five daughters, Dorthea "Dotti" Campbell of Apple Valley, Calif., Pam Hood of Martins Ferry, Susan Young of Broken Arrow, Okla., Sharon Cuffaro and Kathleen Ehni, both of Bridgeport; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services were held Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seeing Hand Association of Wheeling, 737 Market St., Wheeling, W.Va. 26003
