Kin of Israel Baldwin Smith of Pleasant Co., West Virginia

A work-in-progress compiled by Glendyne (Beemer) Wergland, one of Israel Baldwin Smith’s descendants, with hope that this will save another descendant years of sifting Smiths.

[In square brackets, I have included some conjecture which may help someone else who has another piece of the puzzle.]

{Between braces is parenthetical information about maiden names and nicknames.}

FIRST GENERATION

John SMITH

b. abt 1796 Virginia

d. 26 Feb 1874, Pleasants County, West Virginia (old age)

m. abt 1828 Nancy Ann ______

b. abt 1807 Virginia

Notes: John’s death record says that his parents were John and Mary SMITH.

[John and Nancy Ann Smith may have been buried in the old West (Smith) cemetery at Greens Run, southwest of St. Mary’s, Pleasants County, West Virginia. This speculation about their burial place is based on a great-grandchild’s recollection of going there with a Smith aunt to tend the graves.]

[I have not checked these records to see which (if any) were kin to Israel B. Smith, because the National Archives now wants $75 for a copy of each pension file.
