WOODY

I follow the WOODy families. Two original Woody families I know of came to America. One originator was William Woody from Ireland (England?) to Potomac River Virginia about 1750 with four sons but shortly with apparently the whole family to NC. The other originally from Richard Woody from England to Roxbury (Mass.) about 1638, 3 gen later a John Woody to NC about 1700. But where did the large amount of Virginia Woodys come from. Looking for any information or points of interest.
MAYS/MAYES, THOMAS

Seeking information on David R. MAYS (MAYES) who married Mable THOMAS in 1917 in Johnson Co., TN. He was born in Washington Co., VA to Fleming MAYS and Mary Elizabeth BLEVINS. Shortly after 1917 he and Mable moved to West Virginia where they "lived somewhere near the Greenbrier River." He worked for or owned a moving firm. Would like to locate descendants.
DILLSWORTH, WETZEL/WHETZEL

I am searching birth and/or marriage of George Jackson WETZEL (WHETZEL) to Mary DILLSWORTH. Both of which were supposed to have been born in VA abt 1837. I have found their residence and some of their children's birth records in Burning Springs, Wirt Co., WV. I have been able to identify seven surviving children. Josiah L. b. 1862, Lewis E. b. 1866 (married Maud E. CLINE in 1890), Mary J. b. 1869, Martha b. 1873, Ruphelle T. b. 1873 (married R.A. Pepper in 1897 - R. could be Peter), George Peno(d)leton b. 10/24/1877 Wirt Co., Nelson Garnet b. 12/14/1879 (married Grace May Gariepy 4/27/1913 Bridgeport, IL) d. 1937 Bridgeport, IL. I am looking in unknown because the Wirt County Clerk was only able to give what I have shown here. I am hoping that means the records are elsewhere rather than none existent.

I am looking for any information on a Benjamin Hartzell b. 13 May 1855 d.9 Nov 1924 and on Florence Banks Wilson Bell b.18 Aug 1897 d. 22 Oct 1954. Florence is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown,WV. Florence is my husbands paternal grandmother. Thank you.

I am looking for Newberry, West VA. I did find a "Newberry One" in Wood County, West VA. Below you will note that Alice Paul Smoot said she was born in Newberry, West VA. The book was printed in 1910 - so she must have been born before 1890. There is a group of us tracing these NEWBERRY and PAUL lines. If I knew what county I would than place a query there. Nicholas Paul (1748-1820) in 1781, was private in Capt. George Nolf’s company and later served as 2nd lieutenant in the 3rd company, 5th battalion, Northampton County, PA troops. He was born in Germany; died in Northumberland County, PA
ROBINSON, TALMAGE

Trying to find decendants of William ROBINSON b.1807 & wife Caroline Talmage Robinson both of Armstrong Co. Pa. last appeared in the 1850 Tyler Co census. Living with them was Caroline's father Dr Samuel TALMAGE b.1765. Dr. TALMAGE died at their home near Sisterville, Tyler Co. in 1853. Wish to find where they are buried also. Any info on these people will be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information on the family of William B. CRISAMORE. He was born in West VA in 1856. He moved to Tishomingo Co MS and married Mary B. Belue. I understand from census records that both his father and mother were also born in West VA. Any help here would be appreciated.

I’m looking for information on Archibald and Barton JOHNSON. The 1856 Census of Hardin County, Iowa indicates that Archibald JOHNSON was born in Virginia or West Virginia about 1806, and that his father, Barton JOHNSON, was born in Virginia or West Virginia about 1781. They moved to Muskingum County, Ohio before 1831. In 1854 Archibald and wife Catherine SHELDON settled in Pleasant township, Hardin County. Archibald died in February 1861. Their name may have been changed from JOHNSTON. Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm willing to provide information I have.

I am looking for some information on the Cheuvront family. One Rosie Cheuvront maiden name Stull. She married a Jim Cheuvront and they had at least four children: Icy, Florance & Lawrance (twins) and Jim. Rosie died in Monongalia Co., WV probably in the 1950's. Any information would be greatful. May have lived in Marion County at one time.
