My 3rd great grandfather, Willoughby Morgan, was born in Monongalia Co., WV in July 1819 and died 25 March 1896 in Monroe Co, OH. I am trying to prove that a David Lewelly Morgan, b. 19 Sept 1778 in Berkley Co and d. 1856 in Marion Co WV, is his father. Willoughby had two wives, Ohio girls, I believe, Nancy Barnard and Rebecca Hall. Names used on his children are: George, Nancy, Asa, and William.

The men left Alabama to work in the coal mines in Logan county The coal campers that they lived in were Becco, Lordero, Kessler Amherdale (not sure of the spelling).
This family went to Logan county in the early 1900-1920. Need to know about the mining accident in Kessler Mine in 1937. my cousin Samuel Mann died in that accident.

My Great grandfather was living in Pittsburgh, Pa and married a woman who was also living there about 1893-4 There is no record on file there of the marriage. According to a resercher there many people would take the train to WV and get married in that state because of no red tape and no waiting. I assume it was likely a county that borders Pa--- short of writing each county is there a central state index where I can request a record check. Thanks, Steve

Looking for information on Maxwell McCaslin. He was a Colonel in the 15th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. My 3rd Great Grandmother was Cyrene (Serena) McCaslin/McCaslen. I am a descendant of Andrew Jackson Somerville who was born in Mason County and Mary Martha Washington who was born in Cabel County. Both spent most of their lives in Mason County and are buried there. Their daughter, Elizabeth Blanche Somer- ville was born in Mason County on October 29, 1866. Andrew Somerville died on January 9, 1907 and is buried at Lone Oak which I believe is in Mason County. Mary Martha Washington died February 6, 1884 and is buried in the Somer- ville-Zuspan Cemetery, Lone Oak. I am searching for records relating to these three individuals and would appreciate knowing where these records are located. I also have limited information on the following relatives who had Mason County connections: Samuel Somerville Jr.; Margaret Eckard; Calvin, Samuel Jamison, Ann, Barbara, Susan and Rebecca Somerville. Mary Ann Long; Leonidus P., Joseph S., Charles W., Ernest Otho, Anna Laura, Robert Valandingham and Washington Irvin Somerville. THOMAS CARTWRIGHT Thomas came to Logan County after 1830. He was married on 8/30/1830 to Francis Murphy in Pike County Ky. Hello I am looking for RUSSELL information again. SAMUEL RUSSEL was listed as a MD in the Kanawha County Census of 1870 and 1880 does anyone know anything about this old country doctor? Researching the Robert Buckles family. Robert Buckles left England in 1685 at the age of 17 and settled in what was then called "Bucklestown." Can anyone help me find where "Bucklestown" was? The only reference I have found is in a civil war diary where the writer mentioned "Bucklestown" alias Darks- ville. Is anyone else researching this Robert Buckles family? I am Reseaching HIGGINBOTHAM, GRAY, ICE Families. I would like the birth date of John Oliver GRAY that married Hattie ICE in Wetzel Co., 21 Jan 1914. Hattie was born 28 Dec 1900 in Smithfield, Wetzel Co., WV. She died 30 Nov 1978 in Barnesville, Belmont Co., OH. John Oliver Gray died 7 Mar 1926 in Eureka Spgs Carrol Co, Beaver Twp. Arkansas. He was a Bridge Supt. and died of pneumonia. John Oliver GRAY's mother was Matilda Higginbotham She married John South and then George Gray, but I can't find any record of John Oliver GRAY's Birth. Also, I am looking for the place of death for Laura Curtis (HAMMON) (ICE) in Wetzel Co. West Virginia. She was supposed to have died 28 Dec 1900 after giving birth to Hattie. William ICE was Hattie's father and he died 26 May 1926 and is buried in Wheeling, WV. If anyone is working on any of these families I would appreciate hearing from you.

WALKER and BRAND families- I am looking for information on John WALKER (1828-1903) and his mother Sarah Raleigh (or Rowley) WALKER (1806-1882) who came the the US (probably the Wheeling, WV area) in about 1843 from Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. Family oral tradition says they came to join Sarah's husband, possibly also named John, and brothers of either the husband, or the son. John (1828-1903) married Mary Ellen BRAND (1837-1932) in Wheeling in 1857, and John, Sarah, and Mary Ellen moved to Belmont Co., OH by the 1860 Census. In that Census, Mary Ellen is listed as being from VA (possibly Wheeling, as it was still in VA then). John enlisted in the 1st WV Light Artillery, Company D?, unlike most Belmont Co. residents who enlisted in Ohio regiments. I suspect he enlisted to fight beside relatives or friends from the Wheeling area. I would appreciate any information on the WALKERS or the BRANDS.

Searching for any information on William KERR and his descendants. William was b. around 1800 in Greene/Washington Co., PA, the son of Archibald Kerr and Mary Huston. He moved to Fairmont sometime prior Archibald's death (c. 1860's). He had at least six children. I do not have the wife's name. Children were; Coleman, George, Mary, Abigal, Johnston and Van Kirk. Van Kirk "died at sea returning from Calif." Any connections to this family would be greatly appreciated.

WOLFORD--According to his death certificate, Calvin WOLFORD was born in Dry Fork, Randolph, WV, Oct 24, 1858. His father's first name is unknown, his mother was Caroline HILL. Family lore says that his mother's sister, Mary HILL, married his father's brother, Thomas WOLFORD. Caroline, Calvin, Mary and Thomas are all found in the Harrison Co., OH, 1860, census. Calvin's father is not there. Further information indicates that the WOLFORD family may have been in Hardy Co. prior to Calvin's birth. Thomas' and Mr. X's father's name may have been Abraham. Any information on the WOLFORD family in Hardy Co would be appreciated. Obviously, I'd like to know the name of Calvin's father (my gr-gr grandfather), marriage of Caroline and Mr. X, parentage and siblings in the WOLFORD clan, anything about the HILL family. We are looking for information on James McConnell, b-1830 in Ireland. Married a Mary E. who was born in Pennsylvania. They had 4 children according to the 1880 census, Margaret S ;Charles (who I believe to me my g-grandfather); William; James and Gillie. The 1900 census shows a William McConnell in Ohio County, (Wheeling) and the b dates agree. He shows his father as born in Ireland. Any information will be appreciated.

Hello, We are searching for a certain George Schmidt who was attorney in 1948 in Charleston (West Virginia); he was the son of August Schmidt. The George's grand-parents were Gabriel and Pauline DE ROY. They lived at Eldred (county of MC KEAN, Pennsylvania) till 1922. Then they moved to Buckhannon, and after that, they moved to Charleston. I am trying to find some info on my great-grandfather. His name was William TAYLOR he was married to Lucinda WESTFALL in the mid 1800's. I am looking for my great grandmother Mertia Agnes LISTER. She was born 23 Sep. 1868 - I don't know where! Her father was from England and her mother from W. VA. She married 9 Dec. 1889 to Charles E. Hewes/Hughes was born in Virginia/later West Virginia at unknown date. He apparently married Rebecca Higgenbothen born unknown date in Virginia/later West Virginia at an unknown date. They had a daughter, Mary Emmaline Hewes/ Hughes born 2 January 1863 in West Virginia. She married Stephen Edgar Percival in Kansas about 1879. She died in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. She may have had a brother, Wilber J. Hewes/Hughes who was born about 1859 in Virginia/West Virginia. Can anyone help us locate the area in West Virginia that this family was from. JAMES GADD (b Franklin Co., Va., 1808/died June 29, 1888) did not go to Kentucky but lived in Franklin County, Va., until about 1840 when he moved to Webster County, WV. My great grandfather, William Grant Cunningham, was born in Marion Co. WV in Nov., 1865. He grew up in Meadow Run and attended Goose Creek school. He was residing in Ritchie Co. when he married Nettie Atkinson on Nov.4, 1886. I would like to find info on his and/or her siblings and parents.
