I am looking for info on the following: Edley WHITT b. 1830's (killed during Civil War in 1862/63) married Hannah SMITH b. 1833 in McDowell/Tazwell area they had the following children: John (m. Elizabeth ROWE), Polly Ann "Mary" (m. Gray ROWE), Isaiah (m. Nancy L. Lambert), Thomas (m. Mary Frances McKINNEY), Manerva (m. Wm. ROWE), later she had Garrett (m. HOWERTON and then Miami ARTHUR), and Nancy Alafair, my great grandmother, b. 1876 who took the name WHITT, but could not have belonged to Edley who died before their birth. Nancy Alafair married Richard MULLINS and had the following children: Hannah (m. Burt SHORT), Elmo, Thurman, Aven, Lewis, Sally (m. CLIPPER), Ida (m. Arlie FINLEY), and Nora Beatrice b. 31 Mar 1916(m. Gayther Wm. JOHNSON). Any info would be appreciated. I am really curious to find out the "real" father(s) of Garrett and Nancy Alafair . . . a distant relative, and grandson of Garrett, said there was rumor that Abner H. "Tice" LESTER may have fathered Garrett.?.?.? If you have info that could help fill in the missing pieces to this puzzle, please contact me!!! Thanks a bunch!

I am looking for any information on my great-great grandparents. My g-g-grandfather was Edward Rutherford MORGAN, and my g-g-grandmother was Rebecca (FERRYMAN) MORGAN. Both are believed to have been born in West Virginia. I believe they left West Virginia some time before 1867, as my great-grandmother Lydia Cordelia Morgan, was born in Ohio, in that year. I have been told that Edward was in the Civil War. Rebecca died August 17, 1915, in Ohio.

Searching WELLMAN-ARCHER lines. G-G-grandfather RUDOLPH WELLMAN, b 1 Nov 1758, Somerset Twp, Washington Co PA, m. AGNES ARCHER in 1789, she b. 1760. RUDOLPH was a PA Ranger, he survived the infamous expedition to Upper Sandusky OH. Last found in PA in 1784, then he and AGNES apparently moved to VA (Ohio Co)on or before their first son JAMES WELLMAN was born in 1790. They next moved to Belmont Co, OH where they are both buried. Son JAMES m. SARAH PALMER in Belmont Co OH in 1815 and returned to settle in Marshall Co W.Va. His sister, MARY WELLMAN, b 15 Aug 1796, m. JAMES STEWART in Belmont Co Oh in 1821 and they then moved to Marshall Co. After RUDOLPH died in 1836, deed records (1837show that his youngest child, SAMUEL,b. 1802, was named his executor, and that JAMES, MARY and their spouses signed over their share of the family farm in Belmont Co to SAMUEL. The third son of R & A was my great grandfather, MOSES,b. 14 SEP 1798. He married ANN MARQUIS in Belmont Co in 1822, and subsequently moved to Logan Co OH, where my branch of the family remained until about 1916. On a brief stop in Wheeling last week I learned that there are several WELLMAN families in the Moundsville Area; I would most appreciate hearing from any and all who might be related. Seeking information on James Williams b. July 1889 in Surry Co. NC. He was a son of Augusta Williams. He left home sometime between 1915-1919 and went to West Virginia to work in the coal mines. He married and had a family. James was killed in a coal mining accident around mid 1920s. He had written letters home, however those letters were lost and the family never heard from his family again. My grandmother remembers when her father received the news of his brothers death. She was a little girl. She wanted to find out what happened to her long lost cousins. Thanks.

An 1860 Brooke Co. census index shows an Edwin HARGAR should be found on page 1008 and Holmes HARGAR should be found on page 1005, both in New Cumberland. I can't find them in the WV census. COCHRAN/REED - I am looking for any information on my husband's g-grandfather Andy Blaine COCHRAN b-30, May 1887, ? County, West Virginia. Died 1 Jan. 1963. Father - Floyd Cochran, Mother - Mary Elizabeth ( ?)Cochran. He had 12 children. All but one was born in Pocohontas,West Virginia. Cannot find any other information concerning his brother's, sister's, or parents. Was in the 1880 Census for Mercer County, WV. He married Lena Reed on 4 June 1912. She was born on 5 April 1894, (?Greenbrier Co. WV) died 19 December 1980. Her father-William REED, mother - Riss, Rissey, or Betty (?). I know that David POWER was in Pa. in 1866 when his first child, a daughter, Sarah E. was born. He and wife and daughter were in Stiles, Ia., when his second child, a son, Joseph F., was born in 1868. David POWER was listed as being a Pvt in Co. L Reg. 2. In WVa? I am looking for my ROBINSON and LAVINDER ancestors which lived in the Coalburg area in the 1800's. My ggrandmother was Dottie Dimple Robinson and her mother was Victoria Lavinder. Victoria had a sister, Virginia They were born in 1857 and 1859 respectively. grandmother Dottie had a brother, William. She was born in 1888. She had a son, William Robert Carper who was supposed to have been born illigetimately but took her husbands last name when they got married shortly after his birth in 1901. His father, from family stories, was a "railroad man", and little else is known about him. Any information that anyone could give me on any of these people or families, or any suggestions to trace my grandfather's "railroad man" father would be greatly appreciated!
