I'm seeking any information on my ggrandfathers father. My ggrandfathers name was John Michael ENGLE, (1/1/1838-4Jun1900) he was the son of John (W? or M?) ENGLE and Elizabeth HAHN. John Michael was supposedly born in Maryland, but it was claimed that his father worked for the railroad and had a place called Engleswitch in W. Va named for him. I've been told there was a place named Engle about 5 miles from Harpers Ferry named Engle. Would this be on the rail line and is there any record of either of John?

MORRIS/WOOD/SLOAN -- I'm looking for info on Thomas S. Morris b apx 1805, who lived in VA, moved to Ohio before 1826. Information handed down states he came across the mountains of WV to Sciota County, Ohio with the Fields, Woods, Sloans and three other families. He married Phoebe Wood in 1826 in Scioto County, OH. The 1850 Census from Scioto County, OH shows him as T. S. Morris, physician, wife Phoebe, children William, John, Mary, Theophilus, Eunice, Lyman, Emily and Eliphel. Abner Wood & Rebecca Campbell had a daughter, Phoebe, but I haven't been able to make sure this is the same Phoebe. Their daughter, Eunice, married Theophilus Sloan, b 1841, son of Ira Robert Sloan. Ira Sloan's other children: Seldon, Mary, Sarah, Phoebe, Emily, Delbert, Ettie, Gertie & Josie. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find information on the Walker family. I know that Alden O. Walker married Sylvia Opal Bowen in Birch River. I don't have their date of marriage. Alden Walker's parents were Lewis Walker and Ema Macauoy(?). Sylvia Bowen's parent were Pete Bowen and Addie Frame. Alden worked in the coal mines in or around Widen, WV. BUTCHER, DILLY: Lola Butcher Given Fri May 16 18:57:47 1997
Looking for parents of Warwick (Warric, Warnick, ) Butcher Born 1819 Married Mary Dilley. He died in the Civil war a prisioner of war. I have this information but cannot find who his parents were. Warwick Butcher enlisted in the Confederate Army at Frankfort, VA (now WV) on 3/13/1863 as a private in Company C, 19th Virginia Cavalry, C.S.A. He was captured in Nicholas County, VA (now WV) on 7/29/63 and was taken to Atheneum Prison as a P.O.W. where he arrived on 9/13/63. Upon arrival he was described as age 44, 5'10" tall, with dark hair and whiskers and blue eyes. His occupation was listed as blacksmith and his residence as Nicholas County. On 9/17/63 he was transferred to Camp Chase at Columbus, OH. On 1/14/64 he was again transferred to Rock Island Prison, Rock Island, Illinois, where he died of tuberculosis on 12/3/64. He was buried in grave #1637 in the Rock Island Prison Cemetery. Sincerely yours, Lola B. Given

I am having a very difficult time locating any information about my great-grandfather and his family. I have been able to confirm that his name was John Clements Wetzel, and he was born in March of 1863, supposedly somewhere in the state of Ohio. He died in 1901, in Cleveland, at the age of 39. My father (Donald Charles) remembers that his grandmother (John C's wife, Adolfine) said her husband's was originally from the West Virginia Wetzel County family, but she didn't have any more details. I have no more information than that, and I would appreciate anything that could be shared. Thanks!
