OLD WAY, WV
Patty Mulder Tue Nov 25 16:09:26 1997
Hi! My name is Patty Mulder. My e-mail address is PMulder749@aol.com and my West Virginia query is as follows: Where was "Old Way, West Virginia?" I have found this as a location in my Ancestral File listings for James Gough's family. One of the children was supposed to have been born there. I cannot find ANY references to this on maps, or any geographical lookups I have tried. Does anyone have any ideas?
BURKS, HOLSAPPLE, RATCLIFF/RATLIFF, WILLIAMS
Emme Ratcliff Leslie Tue Nov 25 03:57:05 1997
Currently, I am researching the RATCLIFF/RATLIFF line and three of the many surnames I am looking for are WILLIAMS, HOLSAPPLE, and BURKS. I have a William WILLIAMS d. 22 Dec 1892 in Washington County, VA who married on 9 Aug 1817 in Union, Monroe County, WV. His father also was a William WILLIAMS. My original information indicated that the son married an Elizabeth B. HOLSAPPLE. Now I only have one hitch. More current information which I have uncovered shows that William WILLIAMS' wife to be an Elizabeth H. BURKS, not HOLSAPPLE. Now I don't know which is her maiden name nor whether she had been previously married to either a BURKS or a HOLSAPPLE. The HOLSAPPLE information that I have shows that the father was born abt 1789 in Greenbrier, WV and died in 1862 in Monroe County; he was married to Jean CAMPBELL. Does anyone possibly have anything showing the true maiden name of WILLIAMS’ wife? I will appreciate anything that anyone may happen to have which might help in my research whether it be from official records, family history/tradition, or family bibles (or good rumors). Thank you in advance for your help. I hope that we can make a connection. Emme Ratcliff Leslie

TIGARD FAMILY HISTORY
Bill Harrison Mon Nov 24 00:30:24 1997
There is a story in our family about how the Tigard family came to be. In about 1820 two brothers, Jessie and John, ages 7 and 11, respectively, were orphaned and turned up in western West Virginia. A family cared for the two until another family offered to take one of boys; they were seperated and John was never heard of again. Jessie, who said he was born in Maryland, grew up, married, and raised a family in West Virginia, before migrating to Nebraska in 1867. Bits of other stories mention Pendleton and Lewis counties, where Jessie and Sarah Tigard had a total of 16 children. Two of the children died of injuries they received in a home fire; a third died as a result of falling out of a swing. Their sons, Samuel and Simon both served in the 10th WV Infantry during the Civil War. Would really like to get an idea who the parents of Jessie and John were. If any of this information is even remotely familiar, or if you can add to it or even offer suggestions regarding where I might seek further information, please let me know. Thank you, Bill Harrison.
