Holton, Alfred - Company I - MA#305829 - enlisted 23 Oct 1861 Wyoming Co. VA - lived Peytona Boone Co. at enlistment - 6’2”tall, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair - born about 1841 Cabell Co. son of Nathaniel and Sarah Kingkade Holton - was a recruiter for the Union Army in Wyoming Co. - Alfred was killed at Scites Mill, Lincoln Co. by a party of soldiers from the 9th VA Inf. while attempting to capture him in December 1863 - records show he took leave in Boone Co. WV 20 Aug 1862 - Mothers pension rejected on the grounds that he was listed as a deserter at the time he was killed - siblings in 1883: John W. 35 Years, Henry J. 35; Clarissa 14 Jun 1860 - Alfred’s father Nathaniel died in 1843 of wounds inflicted by a knife in the hands of William Adkins - His mother then married William Kingkade, Sally next married Joseph Adkins 3 Apr 1881 Lincoln Co. WV - Alfred was raised by his grandparents Charles and Frances Holton.
