Hazel S. Acord
Hazel Seletyn Acord, 77, of Beckley, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born May 6, 1922, in Helen, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Myrtle Pruitt Seletyn. Mrs. Acord was a retired nurse, working at Raleigh General Hospital for 25 years, and was a member of Ury Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Lacy Perrine. Survivors include her husband, Rexford Acord; and a daughter, Sandi Perrine and her husband, Scott, of Gainesville, Ga. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. Clinton Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Canaday Cemetery, Glen View. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia.
Evert Harold Acord
Evert Harold Acord, 63, of Slab Fork, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born May 12, 1937, in Burn Fork, he was the son of the late Wilburt "Bill" and Mary Francis Cook Acord. Mr. Acord spent his childhood at Burn Fork, had been a resident of Slab Fork since 1975 and formerly lived at Glen White. He was a retired coal miner having worked for Slab Fork Coal Company. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Acord Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Acord; a brother, James Acord; and a sister, Charlotte Cozart. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Geneva Webb Acord; a son, Everette "Matt" Acord and his wife, Karen, of Lester; three daughters, Debbie Jones of Landis, N.C., Connie Rice and her husband, Gary, of Landis, and Judy Bolen and her husband, Kevin, of Crab Orchard; five grandchildren, Lora and Cimberly Rice, Amanda and Dustin Jones and Cinthia "Pogo" Bolen; a brother, Fred Acord of Crab Orchard, and five sisters, Billy Davis of Slab Fork, Jesse Smith of Jefferson, N.C., Willie Rose of Canton, Ohio, Eunice Rupe of Michigan and Edith Acord of Slab Fork. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Donvan Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Acord Cemetery, Acord Mountain. 'Junior' 'Red' Acord
James "Junior" "Red" Acord, 78, of Eisenhower Drive, Beckley, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Aug. 14, 1923, in Eccles, he was the son of the late James W. and Della Elkins Acord. Mr. Acord spent his childhood in Eccles and was a 1941 graduate of Trap Hill High School. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was the retired owner of Mr. Kean Car Wash at Beckley Plaza and had been a resident of Eisenhower Drive for more than 40 years. He was a member of Beckley Church of God on South Kanawha Street. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Acord; a son, the Rev. Danny J. Acord; and a sister, Imogene Shumate Dwyer. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Acord Clark and her husband, Vernon, of Beckley; three granddaughters, Cameo Clark, a senior at Concord College, Dannagale Acord of Elk Garden and Ashley Baker of New Orleans; a daughter-in-law, Linda Acord Baker and her husband, Lawrence, of Elk Garden; a brother, Herbert E. Acord of Ashtabula, Ohio; and a close friend, Mary Williams. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. F.D. Sexton and George Garner officiating. Oather 'Dee' Acord
Oather D. "Dee" Acord, 85, of Cranberry Drive, Beckley, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at his home following a long illness. Born Dec. 4, 1915, in Saxon, he was the son of the late Millie Acord McGinnis and George Honaker. Dee resided in Raleigh County his entire life, moving to Cranberry in 1932. He was a member of Cranberry Community Church and UMWA Local Union 71, retiring from Eccles Mine No. 6 in 1979 after 43 years as a coal miner. He was also preceded in death by his stillborn son, David, in 1949; a sister, Ressie Marie Creed; and five brothers, Andrew Blaine McGinnis Jr., Eugene McGinnis, Howard, Junior and Ralph Honaker. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Jessie Norman Acord; four daughters, Kitty Lusker of Valrico, Fla., Alice Cox and her husband, Jerry, of Beckley, Deborah Crawford and her husband, James, of Akron, Ohio, and Susan Jenkins and her husband, Edward, of Beckley; two sons, Ronald Gene Acord and his wife, Kathy, of Beckley and Robert Dee Acord and his wife, Nancy, of Sprague; 14 grandchildren, Rebecca Ludke of Valrico, Theresa Ludke Whitlock and her husband, Andy, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Melanie Ludke Magruder and her husband, Randy. of Valrico, Robin Acord of Sprague, Bobby Acord and his wife, Missy, of Oak Hill, Jerry Acord and his wife, Bridget, of Beckley, David Acord and his wife, Renee, and Richard Acord and his wife, Cindy, all of Evansville, Ind., Amy Acord, Amanda Cox and Lauren Cox, all of Beckley, Mark Crawford and his wife, Kelly, and Matt Crawford and his wife, Lynette, all of Akron, and Andrea Neely Akers and her husband, James, of Beckley; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Madeline Harmon of Huntington, Edith Hawley of Beckley, Virginia Iber and Betty Fagg of Columbus, Ohio, and Marie Gibson of Glen Daniel; and three brothers, Douglas Honaker of Flint, Mich., Randy Honaker and Jackie Honaker of Glen Daniel; and also by Rosie Honaker of Glen Daniel; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Lowry and her husband, Robert, of Beckley. Lloyd C Acord
OCEANA - Lloyd Clinton Acord, 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, following a long illness. Born July 25, 1923, in Slab Fork, he was the son of the late Abram and Leona Cooke Acord. Mr. Acord was retired from Eastern Associated Coal Corp., Kopperston No. 1 Mine, was a member of UMWA Local Union 7604, was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, a member of VFW Daniel Lewis Post 8364 and a member of Toneda Baptist church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Evertt and Boyd (his identical twin) Acord; and seven sisters, Piney Massie, Eula Brooks, Leatha McGraw, Ova Roles, Linnie Sizemore, Sadie Nedrow and Maude Sizemore. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mildred Johnson Acord; a sister, Delilah Acord Reed of Oceana; two sons, Lloyd Curtis Acord and his wife, Judy, of Ghent and Danny Lee Acord and his wife, Terry, of Oceana; four daughters, Brenda Louise Lovins and her husband, Michael, of Oceana, LaDonna Sue Acord of Oceana, Doris Ann Reed and her husband, Mickey, of Bolt and Bonita Faye Toler and her husband, James, of Harper; 10 grandchildren, Rita Atha, Todd Lovins, Jennifer Bragg, Steven Lovins, Christie Cline, Cynthia Nutter, Katrina Birchfield, Jessica Reed, Jared Reed and Travis Surratt; seven great-grandchildren, Lloyd Nickolas Acord, Makaila Lovins, Amber and David Nutter, Austin and Caitlin Cline and Trevor Birchfield; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. HOTCHKISS - Pauline Hazel Acord, 73, formerly of Lynco, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in a Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness. Born Dec. 17, 1928, in Clendenin, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Pansty Mullins. Mrs. Acord was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Acord; a son, James Edward Acord; a brother, Leon "Cotton" Mullins; and a sister, Eva Byrd. Survivors include two special friends, Betty Williams and Thelma Cook, both of Hotchkiss; three nephews, John Jarett of Kenova, Tommy Foreen of Louisville, Ky., and Roger Foreen of Meadow Bridge; two nieces, Kathy Byrd of Thomasville, N.C., and Jo Ann Jarett of Kenova; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and 17 great-great nieces and nephews. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Evans Funeral Home Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Gilbert Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
